Chapter 6 Heartless

'He must be a man of few words,' she thought as they continued to hold each other's gaze.

Then he finally spoke up;

"Take all these paperworks to the heads of all departments and make sure to relay to them that I want it reviewed and signed before the end of today," he started.

'The heads of all departments?' Christie thought. She just started today, how the hell is she supposed to know all the departments and their heads.

"Go to your counter, you'll see a briefing of what you are supposed to do on each passing day. Go through it but I expect you to be familiar with this job as you said in your resume that you had a two years experience of internship after graduating from college and then a three years experience in the field, am I wrong?" he continued, so straight to the point.

"No sir, you are very correct," she replied. You mean her fake resume- Christie felt like laughing.

"Good. Without wasting any time, get these two things done in a jiffy and report back to me. I have so many meetings today," he continued.

"Okay, sir," she replied collecting the paperworks and then she turned around to leave.

"I wasn't done talking to you," he called.

'Oops!' she thought.

She turned towards him again.

"My apologies," she said.

"Familiarize yourself with my schedule. You'll be responsible of reminding me of it from now on. And, I'll hold you responsible if I miss an appointment and you don't want to know the consequences, Ms. Brinkley," he half threatened.

"Okay, sir. You have nothing to worry about," she assured.

"You better make sure of that. I just hope you won't be a disappointment and an incompetent fool like the previous PAs and secretaries," he stated.

'I'm sure you're the problem not them,' she thought.

"I promise I won't," she replied.

"Hmm, that's what they say at first," he remarked.

"You may leave," he said and she turned to leave.

She heaved a sigh of relief. It was so intoxicating in there with that man. How were his employees able to put up with him? No wonder he changed PAs and secretaries like clothes.

Her chest and throat were burning up out of the rage and anger that was bubbling up inside of her but she will be patient, because the patient dog eats the fattest bone.

Luckily, she was good at memorizing stuffs quickly and she was also a fast learner. She soon finished the briefing of what was expected of her and memorizing Alexa's schedule was a walk in the park.

With Brenda's help, she was also able to get the paperworks to the heads of the various departments and she finished doing that just in time for Alexa's first meeting.

She knocked on the door to his office and only opened when he told her to. She walked in and reminded him of the meeting. He finally stood up and that was when she noticed how tall he was.

She was tall enough but he towered over her as he was very tall. He started walking away, his every long strides was graceful but at a surprisingly fast pace that she was actually finding it hard to keep up.

She was huffing when they eventually arrived at the meeting room. She straightened up with a wide smile on her face when Alexa turned to see her because of the way she had been breathing.

He hadn't even turned to observe her since they had been walking. Uncaring, he walked into the meeting room and sat on his chair. She sighed and walked in as well, going to stand by his side and the meeting began.

The meeting was between him and the production team. After several minutes of presenting their new project suggestions to Alexa, he finally gave his verdict on the project.

"So..." he started.

"This is the bullsh*t you guys have been working on for weeks," he continued.

'Huh?' Christie thought, she didn't think the project was that bad. But with just the few hours she has been in this company, she was already hearing things about Alexa.

How he was a perfectionist and it wasn't easy to please him. No wonder the whole production team looked tensed throughout the meeting.

"Sir-"

"Team leader," Alexa interrupted the woman who had presented the project.

"Yes sir," responded the team leader, who was a man.

"You came to me weeks ago with this same crap and I told you to work on it or do a re-do yet you are still presenting this same trash," Alexa uttered. The team leader couldn't respond, his head was a little bowed as he was short of words.

He had made the necessary adjustments, he couldn't tell what the project was still lacking. He worked really hard on this, he really thought he had finally gotten what Alexa wanted.

"Since you can't even come up with something that will be beneficial, I don't see any use of you anymore. You are fired," Alexa added, standing up.

That was when the man finally raised his head up, he couldn't believe his ears. He went down to his knees almost immediately.

"I'm sorry sir. Forgive my incompetence and give me another chance," the man pleaded, he really needed this job.

"I don't go back on my words," Alexa informed and walked out of the room. Christie followed him, her fists were clenched.

She couldn't believe how heartless this man was. How can he just fire someone without thinking twice?

Because she was in thoughts, she didn't know when Alexa had stopped walking and due to the fact that Christie was trying to keep up with his fast pace, she bumped into him. It was as if she bumped into a rock, she hasn't even regained her balance when he turned towards her at once, making her to slip and fall on her butt.

She couldn't believe what had just happened. Why was she losing her posture in front of this man? This has never happened before, she was always sharp and active.

Alexa just stared down at her, she too stared up at him- An emotion finally flashed across his emotionless eyes, mockery... mockery of her. It just spite her even more but she hid it.

He could have prevented her from falling but he didn't, because That wasn't just a coincidence but he had shoved her on purpose.

He scoffed without offering her his hand, not like she was expecting it. "So are you just going to sit there?"

"Oh uhm... sorry sir," she replied as she stands up.

"Watch where you are going, would you?! Or don't you know how to walk maybe?" he chastised her.

Christie felt embarrassed, some employees were walking by. They did stare but the fear of Alexa didn't make them to stare for long nor murmur about it.

Christie glared at him. Why was he making her look bad?

She saw as one of his eyebrows curved up, he walked closer to her that they were only inches apart. Then he leaned in, his gaze holding hers.

"Are you actually glaring at me right now?" she heard him say, in a husky voice.
