Chapter 6 The Dress

As Sabrina stood at the White family's doorstep, she overheard Rylie's voice from inside, laced with a tinge of jealousy. "Liam seems to be showering Sabrina with an extraordinary level of attention, doesn't he? This is the latest KY dress, which one can't even buy with money. It's just a regular dinner, yet Liam had the new season's outfit delivered to her."

Rylie's envy was almost driving her to madness.

No promises made by Liam to her in bed could compare to such blatant favoritism towards Sabrina.

She was the one who had grown up alongside Liam.

And she was the one Liam professed to love.

However, just because Sabrina was the real White, Rylie had to relinquish everything she desired.

The injustice of it all weighed heavily on her.

"It's a positive sign that the Wilson family is taking this marriage seriously," Sebastian said seriously. "Rylie, I understand you have a strong bond with Liam, but when it comes to a union between the two families, it's essential to put aside any inappropriate sentiments. Do you understand?"

"I..." Tears welled up in her eyes before Rylie could respond. "Dad, I get it."

Their family business was currently encountering some minor challenges. Otherwise, Sebastian wouldn't have wanted to marry Sabrina to Liam. He was counting on the Wilson family's assistance after the engagement, and he wouldn't tolerate any disruptions.

"Why are you being so tough on her?" Millie, filled with empathy, drew Rylie closer to her. "Rylie has always been well-behaved since childhood. She and Liam have grown up together, so their connection is special. Now she has to witness her beloved marrying someone else. Her heart is already in agony; you don't need to add salt to her wounds."

"I understand how you feel, Rylie," Sebastian responded in a soft voice. "But for now, we must consider the bigger picture."

"I know that."

Listening to the conversation, Sabrina felt a shiver run down her spine.

She realized that both Sebastian and Millie were privy to the situation between Rylie and Liam, while she had been kept in the dark like a naive fool.

It was utterly absurd.

After composing herself, she deliberately cleared her throat to remind the family of her presence.

As expected, when she entered the room, the living area had returned to a state of tranquility, with Rylie standing next to the dress, her eyes showing hints of redness.

"Sabrina, you're back!" Rylie put on a feeble smile. "Liam had someone deliver a dress for you. You should try it on."

Sabrina couldn't help but suppress a smirk at Rylie's forced grin.

She had no interest in the dress Liam had sent, nor did she have any interest in the man himself.

"You should give it a try," Sebastian suggested. "Don't let Liam's thoughtful gesture go to waste."

"This dress doesn't quite match my style," Sabrina remarked casually. "Since this is my first formal meeting with Liam's parents, I believe the dress, while beautiful, lacks the dignified aura I desire. In fact, I think it would complement Rylie perfectly.

How about I give it to you instead, Rylie? I've been back for some time now, and I haven't had the opportunity to present you with a proper gift. So, consider this dress my token of appreciation."

"You're really going to give it to me?" Rylie's face immediately brightened, clearly taken aback by such a generous offer.

After all, this dress had been chosen based on her own preferences. Initially, she had assumed Liam had purchased it for her, but she was mistaken.

In the end, the dress found its way into her hands, as if by fate.

Then again, regardless of how elegantly a country girl might dress, it couldn't mask her lack of sophistication.

"I don't think that's a good idea." Sebastian furrowed his brow. "Liam has given it to you, and it wouldn't be right to give it to someone else."

"Rylie is my sister." Sabrina maintained her warm smile. "Besides, it's just a dress. Liam won't take it to heart."

"I agree. I'm certain that the dress would fit Rylie well." Millie nodded enthusiastically, evidently delighted by Sabrina's unexpected generosity. "Rylie has smooth skin and long legs. She'll look absolutely stunning in it. Come on, Sebastian, let's not make a fuss over a piece of clothing."

Sebastian's frown persisted for a moment, but he chose not to pursue the argument further.

Rylie was elated and couldn't wait to go upstairs and change into the dress. Meanwhile, Sabrina selected a dress with blue-and-white patterns from her wardrobe. She tied up her hair with a hairpin, and didn't put on any makeup.

This dress had been lovingly handcrafted by her grandmother. Though the style might have been a tad outdated, it bestowed upon her a distinct vintage allure when she donned it.

Sabrina descended the stairs, content with her appearance. Meanwhile, Rylie, dressed in her preferred outfit, eagerly showcased it to Millie, who showered her with affection. "You look stunning. You're naturally beautiful, regardless of what you wear."

Sabrina lowered her gaze slightly, masking the hint of irony in her expression.

She hoped that the mother and daughter would continue to share this happiness a little longer.

Just as she was about to make her way down the stairs, the doorbell buzzed.

Now, all the main characters of the evening were present.
