Chapter 9 Designing the Wedding Dress

The pain in Thalia Cloude's abdomen gradually subsided. She got up from the ground while holding onto the wall for support. She looked up at the Matthews Corp. Tower, which was a skyscraper.

Just like the tall building, Adam Matthews was beyond her reach.

All her wildest fantasies and unforgettable memories were reduced to rubble after being married to him for three years.

Fortunately for her, everything was coming to an end soon...

Thalia was in a daze when she hailed a taxi. She wanted to go to the hospital for a medical check-up, but she was afraid that she would receive more bad news.

Eventually, Thalia went home. She was utterly exhausted, and she fell asleep the instant she lay down on the bed.

By the time she woke up, it was already dusk. Thalia took a shower and changed her clothes, which were stained with blood. Then she went downstairs to pour some water for herself, only to find that the light in the study was on.

The warm yellow light trickled out from the door gap, and she thought that she was hallucinating.

She had always been the only person who lived in this mansion.

Even if Adam's grandfather forced him to come home, he would never spend the night, let alone work in the study.

Thalia stopped in astonishment. She stood at the door of the study and peeked in with a frown.

Adam's side profile was glowing under the light. His handsome face and exquisite facial features were flawless. Thalia had been looking at him for many years. But whenever she saw him, she would be stunned by how attractive he was.

He had come back for real...

The sight of him made Thalia feel as if she was in a dream. Even though she had indeed seen him with her own eyes, it still felt unreal.

She stood quietly at the door, wondering if she should go in and say hello. Suddenly, she discerned the image on the computer screen.

That was...

A wedding dress!

He was designing a wedding dress!

Thalia was overwhelmed with delight. She covered her mouth in disbelief and refrained from cheering out loud.

He was so indifferent toward her. She thought that he didn't care about what happened to her at all... She thought that he wouldn't accept her request...

But he did.

Thalia looked at the wedding dress on the screen and felt an urge to barge into the study.

No, she couldn't!

Adam must have planned to surprise her!

She tried her best to suppress the joy and astonishment in her heart. Then, she took a deep breath and quietly left.

Meanwhile, Adam sat at the desk in his study.

He stared at the design of the wedding dress that he had sketched on the screen. The frown on his face deepened.

When he was drawing the draft at his company, he didn't have any inspiration. Then, he brought his laptop back to the mansion for some inexplicable reason and resumed his work.

He finally had an inspiration, but the wedding dress he designed was unsatisfactory.

The hemline of the dress was ridiculously wide. It was decorated with gemstones and pearls, which looked awfully tacky. The bow on the veil looked laughable...

How did he design such an awful wedding dress?

Adam frowned and dialed Agnes's number.

"Agnes, all those years ago, had you made some requests regarding the design of your wedding dress?"

"No."

Agnes's gentle voice sounded from the speaker. "Adam, I never know anything about fashion design. How could I make any unreasonable demand? As long as it's the wedding dress you design, no matter what it looks like, I'll love it."

Adam tightened his grip on the phone, and there was a hint of coldness on his face.

If she hadn't mentioned anything about the design, why did he keep recalling something that a little girl had said to him again and again?

He hung up the phone, shut down the laptop, and headed downstairs.

He saw a person lying on the sofa.

Thalia had curled up in a corner of the sofa. The blanket slipped off her and fell to the ground.

For some strange reason, Adam walked over and picked up the blanket on the ground.

"My wedding dress... The hemline must be wide...and I want a bow..."

Thalia was mumbling in her sleep. Adam's hand, that was holding the blanket, froze.

He asked in a low voice, "What did you say just now?"

But Thalia rolled over quietly and fell into a deep slumber.

Adam glanced at the blanket in his hand with a sneer on his face. He seriously thought of putting the blanket over Thalia Cloude, a sly and wicked woman. Did he lose his mind?

He pressed his lips together, tossed the blanket away, and left the mansion.
