Chapter 4 A Sly Woman

"Agnes, some people don't deserve your kindness," Adam said in a flat voice. He picked up a piece of fish and put it into Agnes's bowl. His voice was filled with gentleness and adoration. "I've picked out all the bones for you. Dig in."

Agnes beamed with delight and said, "Brother Adam is so nice. Thalia, I envy you for having such a good husband..."

Adam looked at her and said, "Agnes, you're the only person who is worthy of my adoration."

His words were like a hand that clutched at Thalia Cloude's throat and suffocated her.

Indeed, he never hid his disdain for her. Thalia, his lawful wife, was not worthy of his attention at all!

Thalia suddenly stood up, and her chair fell back onto floor with a loud thud.

All eyes fell on her.

"Thalia, what's wrong with you?"

Agnes pretended to be frightened and held onto Adam's arm. Her facial expression was fearful, but there was slyness in her foxy eyes.

Mr. and Mrs. Cloude looked at Thalia with looks of reproach and warning. "Why are you standing up? Sit down and have your meal."

Meanwhile, her husband shot her a cold and grim glance. "Thalia Cloude, don't you try to start a fight!"

Thalia looked at these group of people before her. She felt as if she was a pathetic buffoon and a complete joke!

She took a deep breath, held back all the tears in her eyes, and growled, "Adam Matthews, if you want a divorce, come home with me now!"

Adam froze and said coldly, "Thalia Cloude, have you had enough?"

"Divorce? What divorce?" Agnes panicked and let go of Adam's arm. "Thalia, I'm sorry. I just can't help but get close to Brother Adam... Please don't get a divorce because of me..."

Thalia stared coldly at Agnes, who was in tears, and suddenly let out a chuckle.

Did everyone take Agnes' side and care for her just because she knows how to weaponize her tears?

Thalia refrained from showing her vulnerable side. The fragile expression on her face vanished. She moved her feet and slowly walked toward Adam.

"Adam, you have only one chance. I'll wait for you to come home."

Time passed, and the night grew.

In the living room, Thalia sat quietly on the sofa like a sculpture. She raised her stiff arm and looked at her wristwatch. It was already two o'clock in the morning.

She had been waiting for nearly ten hours, but Adam... still didn't come back.

Didn't he always want a divorce? She had agreed to divorce him. Why wasn't he willing to come home and have a proper talk with her?

Before the divorce, she just wanted to ask him why he had become the way he was. A long time ago, he used to treated her gently and lovingly...

Thalia looked at the bowl of noodles on the table, that she had carefully prepared for him. She then turned to look at the dark and quiet yard outside the house. The feeling of disappointment washed over her.

After a long while, she slowly got up, turned around, and prepared to head upstairs.

Suddenly, the rumble of the car engine came from the front yard of the mansion. The noise was loud and clear in the dead of night. Thalia thought that she was dreaming.

Thalia turned around abruptly. Her gaze traveled across the dark and met a pair of chillingly grim eyes.

The weigh in her heart instantly disappeared, and she was stunned. Then she immediately came to her senses and said happily, "Adam, you're back."

Adam stood at the door with a sombre aura around him. "What on earth are you trying to do?"

Thalia pretended not to notice his cold expression and smiled. "Adam, I have cooked some noodles for you. Please finish them, then we can talk, alright?"

She walked to the dining table and picked up a bowl of noodles. She froze for a moment and said, "The noodles are cold. I'm getting you another bowl."

She was about to walk toward the kitchen.

"Stop right there." Adam strode forward and called out to her coldly. "Thalia Cloude, I don't have the patience to play your game."

Thalia lowered her head. There was a bitter smile on her lips. "Adam, I just want to have a proper meal with you. Don't you love noodles with a poached egg and some vegetables... I'll get you another bowl of noodles right away. Give me five minutes."

She rushed into the kitchen hurriedly.

The look in Adam's eyes became increasingly grim.

They had been married for three years, but he had rarely come home or dined with Thalia.

He had never told anyone that he liked eating noodles, let alone this sly woman!

But she seemed to investigate him so much about his food preference!

There was a bitter glint in Adam's eyes. Just as he turned around and was about to walk off, he smelled a faint sandalwood scent.

This fragrance was strangely familiar...

Adam thought, 'Why can I smell this scent here as well?'

"Adam, the noodles are ready. Why don't you come over and taste them?"

Thalia came out of the kitchen with a bowl of hot noodles in her hands. The steam hovered around her face and cast a soft glow over her.

It was a dazzling sight, and Adam found it painful to look at.

Did she say she wanted a divorce? But now she was trying to please him with some noodles. What was she up to this time?

He reached out his hand abruptly and grabbed her chin. "Thalia Cloude, are you trying to go back on your word?"

There was a sharp pain in Thalia's jaw. She frowned in pain. "Adam... I just want you to taste the noodles I made."

As she spoke, her eyes suddenly turned red.

All those years ago, he had lost his eyesight, but she was always on his mind.

Now, he could see the whole world, but he didn't even bother to spare her a glance.

Did he really forget about the sweet memories they shared?

He used to tell her that his favourite food was the noodles she made? Was it a lie?

Her eyes were teary, and her gaze on Adam became more and more mournful.

Adam's heart skipped a beat, but he still stared at her coldly. "Do you think I'll design a wedding dress for you if you try to please me with a bowl of noodles? You're too naive!"

"Adam, take a bite, just a bite... okay?"

Thalia begged in a soft voice. Adam gnashed his teeth. He could not help but frown deeply.

He remembered vaguely that whenever he came home, even though he seldom did, she would make him a bowl of noodles.

But in the past three years, he had never had a chance to taste the noodles she cooked.

Thinking of this, his eyes fell on the bowl of hot noodles, and his stern expression wavered slightly.

His hand, that was grasping Thalia's chin, let go of her subconsciously.

Just as Thalia thought that he was finally willing to taste her noodles, she suddenly heard a ringtone. It rang like an alarm.

It was Adam's hand phone.

He took a look at the caller ID and answered the call.

"Adam, bad news! Come to the hospital now. Agnes tried to committed suicide..."
