Chapter 8 The Decisive Red Line

"Don't talk carelessly and act rashly! It looks like someone is watching us," Jhon admonished Ameera.

"Someone is watching us? Who?" Ameera was curious. She turned her head left and right, looking for something as she confirmed Jhon's words.

"I don't know. I think someone was listening in on our conversation," Jhon surmised, telling Ameera.

"What about this?" Ameera was worried. Her face looked even paler after hearing Jhon's words.

"Be careful, because there are so many pairs of eyes and ears here that could talk at any time and jeopardise our position. Do you understand?" Jhon reminded her.

Ameera nodded. Then she would be more vigilant and careful in her actions and words from now on. She would not talk to people carelessly, or pour her heart out to her colleagues. She had promised Jhon to keep quiet, to keep their illicit relationship a secret.

"In an hour, meet me in the examination room. I'll still take the time to check up on you," Jhon said.

"Okay. I'll be there later," Ameera replied.

After hearing Ameera's reply, Jhon left the room. Jhon would let Ameera rest for a while. His assistant needed rest right now. She looked very tired after helping Jhon in the operating room.

Ameera lay down on the sofa. Closing her eyes, she recalled what Jhon had said earlier. Who had been watching them lately? She was very curious. Even so, she never suspected anyone at the hospital. She also felt that she had no enemies at work.

"Who's been watching me and Doctor Jhon here?" Ameera joked in her sleep.

The alarm on her mobile phone rang long and loud. Ameera had been asleep for an hour. Now, it was time for her to go to the examination room. Doctor Jhon was going to check on her.

When Ameera woke up, Lucy was working on a report at her desk. Ameera was surprised to see her. Since when had her best friend been in her room? She had no idea Lucy was there.

"Are you awake?" Lucy asked to make sure. She turned her body, which was still sitting on the chair, and asked Ameera directly. She was so worried about her best friend's condition.

"Ah, yes. My head really hurts," Ameera replied. She reasoned in front of Lucy.

"It looks like you're not feeling well. Earlier, you were also sweating cold and your body temperature was a bit high. Do you feel like you have a fever right now?" Lucy was very concerned.

"I'm fine, really," Ameera denied.

"Are you sure it's okay?" Lucy doubted it. Because she still saw that Ameera was not feeling well today.

Ameera nodded firmly to look convincing in front of Lucy. She got up from her seat and prepared to leave her room.

"Where are you going?" Lucy asked curiously.

"I have to go to Doctor Jhon's room. He has a practice this afternoon. So, I'm going to help him there," said Ameera.

Lucy smiled briefly. "You guys seem really close these days. Are you guys dating?" she guessed.

"Wh-what? Dating?" Ameera denied it firmly. "There's no way I'm dating him."

"Yeah, it's possible, right. I'm just asking out of curiosity. Because you're often seen together," Lucy reasoned.

"Ah, that's just because... the demands of the job. We're not that close, really. You just calm down and don't suspect me," Ameera was busy explaining. Lucy, meanwhile, took it all in stride.

"Well, I'll be going then," Ameera excused herself. She hurriedly left, leaving Lucy in her room.

Ameera walked out of the room stroking her chest. She almost got caught by Lucy. She had been so anxious earlier.

Ameera went to the examination room where Jhon was treating his patients. It was crowded in there. It looks like it will be difficult to do the examination today, she thought. There are so many patients queuing up like that.

Ameera abandoned her intention to go to the examination room. He turned right and now walked leisurely to the cafeteria. At the crossroads to the cafeteria, she accidentally bumped into Andrew.

"Good afternoon, Doctor Andrew," Ameera greeted him kindly.

"Afternoon," Andrew greeted her back. Suddenly his steps stopped and he called out to Ameera.

"Wait a minute! You're... Ameera, right?" Andrew confirmed it again. He managed to remember now.

Ameera nodded and bowed respectfully to her senior. Unlike other doctors who kept their distance from their juniors, Andrew went to Ameera first.

"Are you going to the cafeteria?" Andrew asked casually.

"Ah, that's right," Ameera replied. Andrew had guessed it.

"Same. If so, let's go together, shall we? Let me be the last one you drink coffee with," Andrew offered.

"Okay," Ameera complied.

How could Ameera refuse her senior's kindness. If he said no, she would be seen as disrespecting her senior. She tried to be nice to Andrew. The important thing was that she didn't ask Andrew to buy her coffee first.

Ameera and Andrew walked together to the cafeteria. Soon, when they got there, Andrew offered Ameera a cup of hot coffee as promised. Suddenly, Ameera changed her drink. She just knew that coffee was not good for her health at the moment.

"You don't drink coffee?" Andrew was a little surprised to see Ameera's reaction to being offered coffee.

"No, it's not. It's not like that. For now, I prefer Lemon Tea, Doctor Andrew," Ameera said.

"I see. Well, just a moment, then. I'll order it for you." It was very kind of Andrew to treat Ameera today. It seemed like he was doing it on purpose. Maybe there was another plan behind his kindness.

"Go ahead, here's your order," Andrew handed it to Ameera at her seat.

"Thank you, Doctor Andrew," Ameera said rather shyly. Despite her embarrassment, she was grateful for Andrew's kindness.

"Ah, take it easy. You're one of the luckiest juniors I've treated today. Think of it as me being nice," Andrew replied. Ameera smiled in response.

"Oh, yes. If I may know, what exactly is the relationship between you two?" Andrew asked, starting the conversation first.

"You two? Who do you mean, Doc?" Ameera frowned. She didn't understand what Andrew was talking about.

"You're with my cousin, Doctor Jhon," Andrew confirmed.

Deg!

'Perhaps, the person Doctor Jhon suspects and has been watching us all this time is Doctor Andrew,' Ameera thought.

"Ameera!" exclaimed Jhon. "Did you hear what I said?"

Ameera nodded weakly. "I'm sorry, Doctor Andrew. I don't understand your question. Doctor Jhon and I are not related," she denied.

"Hmm... good then." Andrew was relieved to hear that. However, Ameera still didn't know why Andrew was suddenly asking about her relationship with Jhon.

Ameera became awkward and misbehaved in front of Andrew at this moment. She felt why did everyone suspect her closeness with Jhon? First Lucy, now Andrew. She has to be careful when communicating with Jhon in the future.

Ameera waited for the pregnancy test to work. She deliberately woke up early so she could see the results from her first urine after waking up. Her heart kept pounding as she waited. Her eyes were fixed on the movement of the red line on her pregnancy test.

After waiting for a few minutes, the result was very surprising. Ameera let out a long sigh after knowing the answer to her doubts. This can't be right, can it? Ameera denied it with all her might. However, reality said otherwise. Two red lines were the result.

'Fool!' Ameera blamed herself. 'I'm really going to break down after this.

Ameera was found to be pregnant. She was pregnant with Doctor Jhon's child.

"Shit!" grunted Ameera irritably. She threw the pregnancy test towards the mirror in her bathroom.
