Chapter 7 Maintain Distance

"After you sign this agreement, I hope you don't cause any more trouble with me at the Hospital. If you do, I can sue you legally. Do you understand?" Jhon warned Ameera quite sternly.

Ameera let out a long sigh although it was a bit hard for her to do. She didn't feel like eating this lunch. In fact, her stomach was already rumbling with hunger. Jhon was deliberately ruining her mood.

"You're not eating? Aren't you hungry?" offered Jhon while changing the subject.

"No, thank you," Ameera refused. She was forced to lie in front of Jhon.

Actually, Ameera was starving. However, seeing Jhon's arbitrary behaviour towards her made her whole stomach feel sick. She was too lazy to eat even though the dishes in front of her now looked very delicious and appetising. Yes, that's right. Food made by a renowned chef in a five-star hotel is just drool-worthy, Ameera thought.

All that means nothing now that Ameera has lost her appetite. Better to eat at an ordinary restaurant. It's cheap, it's delicious. Ameera regretted coming to the hotel.

If time could be turned back. Had Ameera known that she was going to meet Jhon at the hotel, she would have preferred not to come and excused herself as much as she could. As much as possible, she did not attend the seminar that Jhon had ordered her to attend.

"Are you sure you don't want to eat?" offered Jhon once again. This time he was a bit pushy because he knew Ameera's stomach had been rumbling for a while.

Ameera was still holding her price, selling out in front of Jhon. "No, no. I'd rather go back to the seminar room. Lucy will be confused looking for me there," she excused herself.

"Okay, then. Happy learning. Just focus on the seminar. Remember my words, don't kill patients because of your stupidity in not taking your studies seriously. Understood?" advised Jhon as he stuffed food into his mouth. He acted calmly as if his problem with Ameera was over.

Unlike Jhon, Ameera now got up from her seat and left her senior with a very upset look on her face. She left while holding back her hunger. Since she woke up, she hadn't had breakfast or eaten anything at home.

'Take it easy. There will be coffee breaks in the seminar room, right?" Ameera was sure of that. There would be snacks in the hotel ballroom.

Ameera walked quickly to the hotel ballroom. When she arrived, she immediately looked for a seat. Ah, what a coincidence that Lucy waved her hand and called Ameera to sit beside her. So, he didn't have to bother looking for a seat anymore.

"Where were you just now? I was waiting for you when you didn't come out of the toilet," Lucy asked curiously.

"Sorry ... I was in the toilet for a while. I had to go," Ameera said with an excuse.

Lucy didn't ask any more questions. Now, she focused all her attention on the speaker in the seminar room. Very focused. She didn't want to get into any more trouble with Doctor Jhon at the hospital. Thankfully then, Ameera felt relieved now.

***

A month after signing the secret agreement, Ameera and Jhon went about their respective lives. They tried to be professional at work.

The incident that night made the atmosphere at the hospital feel a little awkward. Both Ameera and Jhon avoided each other and kept their distance. As much as possible, Ameera avoids direct eye contact with Jhon. And vice versa. Jhon rushes away if he accidentally crosses Ameera's path in the corridor.

Until finally a situation requires them to meet in the operating room to handle a patient who will be operated on by cesarean section. When they have to work together on an operation, the atmosphere becomes even more tense.

"Where's your partner? Is she deliberately not coming?" Jhon asked Ameera. He started the conversation to break the ice.

"Lucy will be here soon. She's probably on her way here," Ameera replied rather nervously.

'Of all the obstetricians here, why does he have to be the one to treat this patient? There's no one else, what?' Ameera grumbled to herself.

Ameera really wanted to protest. However, it would be unprofessional of her to protest to the hospital. Because this incident was unpredictable. The doctor on standby cannot be arbitrarily chosen. The patient's life is more important than the choice of the doctor who will operate.

Not long after, Lucy arrived at the operating room with the other doctors. The operation was about to take place. Ameera had to focus, as did Jhon. However, a strange feeling suddenly pulsed in Ameera's heart. When Doctor Jhon stood next to her.

'Damn it! The events of that night are ruining my concentration right now,' Ameera snorted to herself. She recalled the cursed event.

"Ameera!" called Jhon. His voice made the whole room turn their heads simultaneously towards Ameera.

Ameera remained silent. She did not respond to Jhon's call. She suddenly felt nauseous and wanted to spit something out of her mouth.

"Bring the scalpel!" Jhon ordered. Ameera ignored him.

At that time, it was Lucy who picked it up. Ameera quickly woke up from her long daydream. What was wrong with her?

Lucy elbowed Ameera in the arm. "What's wrong with you?" she asked in a whisper.

Ameera shook her head. She didn't know what was wrong with her. She felt like her body was getting tired easily these days. She often felt dizzy excessively. Worse still, she was experiencing symptoms of morning sickness like a young pregnant woman.

Deg!

Ameera just realised it. When she saw with her own eyes and head, Doctor Jhon removed a baby from a mother's womb during a cesarean section. Could it be a sign that...?

After the operation Ameera hurriedly left. She ran to the toilet. It seemed like she could no longer bear the nausea that was already at the tip of her mouth. She wanted to spit it out, as soon as possible.

Sure enough. Ameera vomited her entire stomach in the toilet. Until his body felt sluggish. She sat on the toilet, daydreaming. Should she check it herself using a pregnancy test?

Ameera came out of the toilet. Her face looked very pale at that moment. Her co-workers caught a glimpse of her and immediately asked her about her condition out of concern.

"Ameera, are you okay?" asked her colleague. His voice was overheard by Jhon, who had just come out of the patient's family waiting room.

"Your face is pale. Are you not feeling well?" Her co-worker's small concern got Ameera carried away.

Jhon glanced over and noticed the conversation between Ameera and her colleague. It was as if their conversation had caught Jhon's attention at that moment.

'Is Ameera sick?" Jhon became anxious upon hearing this.

"It's okay, really. I'm just going to rest for a while," Ameera said as she calmed her colleague. Her partner's overly concerned reaction to her situation only piqued Jhon's curiosity.

Ameera walked slowly to her room. There, she could rest for a while. She felt like her head was spinning. Her body was weak and she needed a lot of energy. Perhaps eating was the solution, she thought simply.

Ameera laid down on the sofa in the room. Seconds later, Jhon came to visit her.

Ceklek!

There was the sound of someone opening the door to her room. Suddenly, Ameera woke up and saw Jhon standing in front of her now.

"What is going on with you?" asked Jhon anxiously.

"I... just got nauseous and threw up," Ameera replied.

"What?" Jhon widened his eyes in shock.

"How long ago?" asked Jhon again.

"A week ago. I didn't have my period this month either," Ameera said.

"Are you sure?" Jhon confirmed. Ameera nodded weakly.

"Have you had your condition checked?"

"Not yet. Right now, I just need to rest Doctor," Ameera pleaded.

"Alright! Just rest then. In an hour, meet me in the examination room. I will check your condition," said Jhon.

"Doctor, what if I get pregnant?" asked Ameera.

Unwittingly, someone overheard their conversation behind the door of the room. The person left a trail of sound like his foot tripped over something and hurriedly left. Until Jhon turned his head towards the door of the room.
