Chapter 10 Something From The Mysterious Man

While in the operating room, both Jhon and Ameera focused their attention on the patient. Ameera had already anaesthetised the patient and she was now fast asleep.

The undeveloped foetus in the patient had died a few hours ago and needed to be removed from the mother's womb immediately. If not, the problem would be extremely dangerous for the patient.

Ameera looked at the face of her patient. The mother's face was still crying bitterly and she continued to shed tears even though she was asleep. The anaesthetic had no effect on the patient's feelings. Although the patient was closed, her heart and mind were not asleep.

'Poor mum,' Ameera thought. She felt very sorry for the patient's sad experience.

Ameera gently wiped away the mother's tears. She felt the sadness in her mum's heart.

'I too will become a mother someday. But I don't expect to be in that mum's shoes right now. No!' Ameera shook her head. She broke her reverie and refocused on the patient.

Meanwhile, Jhon was trying to remove the foetus from the patient's womb. It didn't take long to remove the dead foetus. It was easy for Jhon because he was used to it and experienced.

Ameera occasionally looked over at Jhon. The man's face looked very calm, as if he was not hiding any problems at the moment. Especially at work.

'How professional of him,' Ameera thought.

"Just focus on your work! Take this as a lesson. Do you understand, Ameera?" admonished Jhon.

Deg!

Jhon knew that Ameera had been watching him. Even though Ameera wanted to deny it to Jhon and everyone else in the operating room. It would be uncomfortable if all her fellow doctors and nurses turned their eyes to Ameera right now. Because Jhon reprimanded her directly.

"Did you hear that, Ameera?" Jhon confirmed.

"Yes, Doctor! I heard you," Ameera said in the end.

Among all the doctors and nurses, Jhon only reprimanded Ameera. Because she was the only junior who caught Jhon's attention. However, his reprimand made Ameera embarrassed. Because it was obvious that she was not concentrating during the operation.

"It's done. Now do your job well!" ordered Jhon to all the doctors helping him.

"Yes!" said the young doctors in unison.

Jhon quickly left the operating room. Meanwhile, Ameera and other colleagues cleared up the remaining work from Jhon.

"Is this patient going back to the ward?" another colleague asked Ameera.

"It looks like the cardiologist will be checking her again after the curettage surgery," Ameera replied.

"Oh, I see."

***

Ameera limped out of the operating room. She stopped her steps for a moment and held on to the wall next to her. Her head was dizzy at the moment. Her eyes were also foggy, she felt.

"I have to eat a lot. My energy is drained," Ameera said. So, she rushed to her room to look for food.

When she got to her room, Ameera realised that she had run out of snacks in her desk drawer. Oh my! She tapped her forehead rather hard.

"What are you looking for?" Lucy asked.

"I had a feeling I put some chocolate in here yesterday. I ran out," Ameera explained, grinning at Lucy.

"Do you want to snack or eat something heavy?" asked Lucy. "Hmm... why don't we go to the cafeteria," she asked enthusiastically.

Ameera nodded. She would follow Lucy to the cafeteria and eat together there.

A few minutes later, Andrew approached the two of them and sat down at the same dining table with his two juniors.

"Good afternoon Doctor Andrew," Lucy greeted with a smile.

"Hi! I'll join you here!" said Andrew, asking for permission.

"Go ahead, Doc!" replied Ameera as she invited him.

"Your face is pale. Are you sick?" Andrew changed the subject. After he took a quick glance at Ameera's face.

Suddenly, Lucy turned her head in Andrew's direction. Oh, it was Ameera. She thought Andrew was talking to her.

"You don't seem to be feeling well lately. If you're sick, you shouldn't come to work. You'll bring sickness here." Andrew advised her while joking around with his juniors.

"Are you really sick? Doctor Andrew was right. You've been looking really weak and tired lately," Lucy said.

"Oh yeah? Maybe I just haven't rested enough," Ameera reasoned. "After a rest, you'll be fine again."

Andrew was still staring at Ameera when his junior tried to look away and change the subject. Meanwhile, Lucy suspected something about her best friend's demeanour that was starting to become unpredictable.

"Finish your food! You look so thin Ameera," Andrew ordered. He tried to pay attention to Ameera.

"Thank you Doctor Andrew," Ameera said.

After just a few mouthfuls of food, Ameera's morning sickness symptoms suddenly hit and disrupted her lunch. She had no appetite and was very nauseous. She smelled the spices coming from Lucy's tray. The odour of garlic was piercing to her sense of smell.

"Sorry, excuse me... I need to go to the toilet first," Ameera excused herself. She immediately got up and moved from her seat.

Ameera hurriedly left, leaving Lucy and Andrew who were still sitting there bemused at her behaviour.

"Shit! I can't stand the smell. I'm so nauseous," Ameera grumbled as she walked away.

Ameera deliberately went to the public toilet. Not the special toilet for doctors or other hospital staff. She didn't want any of her colleagues to know about her current condition. In the public toilets he can be more free than in the special toilets for doctors and staff. She did this to avoid the suspicion of her colleagues there.

"It's a relief ...." Ameera felt better after releasing all her nausea in the toilet. In fact, she had only eaten a little but had already expelled the contents of her stomach again.

No food can enter Ameera's body at the moment. All food does not sit well on her tongue. Maybe it's the foetus she's carrying.

Ameera came out of the toilet with a limp and chapped lips. She walked carefully to avoid blurring her vision. As she passed by Jhon's office, Ameera turned her head briefly.

Squeak!

The door opened and Jhon found Ameera standing in front of his office. The two looked at each other for a few seconds. Ameera's gaze was very cold towards Jhon. Her eyes were sharp and filled with hatred. Then, she walked away, leaving Jhon behind.

"Doctor Ameera!" called a nurse. She had something in her hand to give to Ameera.

Ameera turned to him. "What is it?" she asked curiously.

"A delivery boy left this for me to give to you. Please accept it, Doc!" the nurse informed her.

"For me? But I don't think I ordered food." Ameera was taken aback.

"But, this is clearly for you." The nurse showed her the receipt. It clearly stated Doctor Ameera's name as the recipient of the food.

"Well, I'll just accept it first. Thank you," Ameera said. She took the food.

It just so happened that Ameera was very hungry this afternoon. She couldn't continue her lunch in the cafeteria. Because of the strong smell of garlic. And this shipment of food... I don't know who was kind enough to send her this much food.

Ameera was curious to open the bag of food. She walked quickly to get to her room.

A man was watching her from a distance. He saw that Ameera was very happy to receive the food.

"I hope you like it. You must finish the food, Ameera," the mysterious man hoped.
