Chapter 9 An Appetizer

A shouting match was about to ensue. However, Charlotte pulled Noah down just in time.

Noah glanced at Cody with an icy glint in his eye. He heaved hard, trying to suppress the urge to tear the fat man into pieces. One look at his daughter's face made him even calmer. He didn't want to frighten Gianna or Charlotte.

But that didn't mean he was going to let this slide.

Cody needed to get taught an unforgettable lesson for speaking of soldiers in that manner.

Noah had a deep frown on his face as he took out his phone and texted Trenton.

"Trenton, I want to use my power as the CEO of Paysine Group for the first time. With immediate effect, terminate all the ongoing contracts with Nixon Group and teach them an unforgettable lesson."

Trenton didn't waste time in accepting the command.

Cody, who had been staring at Noah, soon became bold again. He took a sip of wine and continued, "Once a loser, always a loser. How dare you raise your voice at me?

Need I remind you that I am not at your level? A piece of trash like you is supposed to worship the ground I walk on. You must have a death wish because if I choose, I can crush you like the ant that you are. Understand?"

Unfazed by this arrogant satire, Noah responded coldly, "The only sets of people that put down soldiers are those who are cuckoo or just plain stupid. Anyway, I'll have you know that you and your company will not be on top for too long."

"Ha-ha! That's the funniest joke I have ever heard! You would make a great comedian, Noah! Do you have an idea how much Nixon Group is worth? We are talking about billions of dollars here. Don't be stupid!" Cody didn't take Noah's words seriously at all.

Hearing this, Noah just smiled and dug into the food he was served.

Only a few seconds passed when Cody's phone suddenly rang. It was a call from a representative of Paysine Group.

The second Cody saw the caller ID, he reasoned that this was another perfect chance to show off.

He sprang to his feet and put his phone screen to the faces of those close by. "I told you my family cooperated with Paysine Group. It seems my guess was right. Trenton was just in a bad mood. He must be calling to apologize to me for being rude."

Looking at him with shiny eyes, Hazel clasped her hands and praised, "You are incredible, Cody. It has only been less than thirty minutes since Trenton misbehaved, but you have already received a call of apology."

The other members also praised Cody as they nodded, thinking that he must be a hotshot even to the elites.

With his shoulders raised, Cody cleared his throat and answered the phone in a very calm tone. "Hello, Cody Nixon speaking."

But what he heard the next second made him freeze.

"Starting today, all contracts signed between Paysine Group and Nixon Group will be terminated. There will be no further cooperation between our company and yours."

The statement made Cody's face turn deathly pale in an instant. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, the disconnect tone rang in his ears. The caller had just hung up on him.

Noah couldn't help smiling when he saw that Cody's face was as white as death. He reasoned that he must have just been informed about the cancellation of the cooperation.

Hazel noticed Cody's odd look, too. As soon as he moved the phone from his ear, she asked, "Is anything the matter, Cody? What did they say?"

Cody was an extremely proud man. Now, he couldn't lose face in front of all these people.

He bit the bullet by saying, "Oh, it's just great news! I was just informed that Paysine Group wants to expand with cooperation with my family's company. We have a much bigger project. The contract will be signed soon. Just wait to hear the good news."

"Whoa!" A tumult of astonished exclamations broke out in the dining room. Julian refilled Cody's glass. Then, they raised a toast and congratulated him.

Everyone else was oblivious to Cody's lie. As for Noah, he just sneered and watched the fun.

"Cody, this is just the beginning. Your family is going to be in big trouble," he sneered under his breath.
