Chapter 8 Lost His Cool

"Why are you just standing there? People are waiting for the food. Go bring them!"

Obviously, Hazel saw Noah as a servant.

Charlotte couldn't take it anymore. "Mom, can you just stop this? Noah is Gianna's father. Since we are gathered here to celebrate as a family, we shouldn't treat him differently."

Stepping in to help Noah didn't mean that Charlotte was no longer mad at him. Her face was still cold. Just to make her daughter happy, she allowed Noah to sit next to Gianna.

Cody had recovered from his embarrassment and indignation, and was quite complacent.

He felt more important than Noah. After all, Hazel was so warm to him.

He felt he should say something.

Cody sat up straight and tried to redeem himself from the recent embarrassment. "Maybe Trenton was in a bad mood just no. You know, people are not always polite to those they don't really know well. But his actions don't mean my family's company doesn't cooperate with Paysine Group."

Cody whipped out his phone and showed everyone that cared to look at the photo of the contract he had taken before.

"This contract was signed by both Nixon Group and Paysine Group. I actually witnessed the signing."

Hazel and Julian couldn't hide their happiness. They praised him to the high heavens.

"Wow! That's amazing, Cody. You are amazing. It's a big deal to cooperate with Paysine Group."

"That's right. Cody is way above his peers. The way I see it, he will achieve greater feats in the future since he's already doing big things at such a young age."

As always, Hazel made it a point of duty to belittle Noah even more. "He's not like some loser who doesn't even know the right words to say."

Cody asked with his voice raised, "Noah, what were you up to during the years of your disappearance?"

"Well, I was in the navy," Noah replied lightly, looking up with a blank expression.

Cody laughed out loud, shaking like a large mass of jelly. "You were in the navy? Judging by how you look, you must be a mere soldier without a rank."

He gave Noah was once-over from head to toe while shaking the glass of wine in his hand.

"Anyway, you silly soldiers live off the taxes we rich people pay."

Bang!

Noah's brown eyes hardened, and so did his face.

He slapped the table as he came up quickly to his feet, all the while glaring at Cody with murderous intent.

This glare made Cody shudder. A drop of sweat trickled down the side of his puffy face. When he saw that Charlotte and the others were looking at him, he braced himself in order not to lose face.

"What are you looking at? Did I say anything wrong? I'll have you know that I'm not afraid of you. It doesn't matter that you were in the navy for a few years. You lots don't scare me at all."

"Shut the fuck up!" Noah roared, still glaring at him.

He didn't care that he was insulted.

Cody just belittled the soldiers who gave up their lives and left their families just to defend the country. That was unforgivable!

"I'll have you know that you won't be sitting here sipping wine if the soldiers are not out there fighting. Do you have any idea how many of them are risking their lives as we speak just so you and the other citizens can live comfortable lives? How dare you speak of them like that, you ungrateful man?"

Noah's words were like icy cold knives piercing through the air. Everyone present shuddered in fear.

Cody's heart began to pound. More beads of sweat trickled from his forehead to his fat chin. He couldn't bear to hold Noah's murderous glare now.

Also, he didn't have the courage to utter one more word.

Hazel didn't forget to defend Cody. She pointed at Noah and cursed, "Have you forgotten where you are, Noah? You should be grateful that we allowed you to sit at our table. If you don't want to be thrown out this minute, you had better stop shouting. Have some manners, will you?

No one wants to hear your silly lecture here. Of what use is a profession that doesn't bring in hard cash? As we speak, the Nixon family's business continues to boom. Cody is getting richer by the second. But you are here talking about soldiers and whatnot!"
