Chapter 6 Mysterious Gifts

Embarrassment clouded Cody's face at this moment. He didn't know how to defend himself, let alone say something to refute Noah's claims.

Hazel was dazed for almost a minute. When she noticed the look on Cody's face, she stepped in to face Noah herself. "That's bullshit! How do you know that much about expensive clothes when you can't even afford them! Everything that you said is hogwash!

You are trying to bad-mouth Cody because you are jealous, aren't you? Tell you what, don't you dare say anything bad about these clothes except you can afford them!"

Although Charlotte watched Noah get scolded, she knew that he had a point. She had been doing things alone long enough to know that expensiveness didn't make something safe. She knew whether to tell if the clothes were good or harmful for kids.

"Cody, please take them with you. We can't accept them."

Charlotte was still as straightforward and unkind to Cody as ever. Her parents suffered from secondhand embarrassment.

Hazel began to think of how to ease Cody's embarrassment and anger.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Hazel hurried to answer it.

"Good day, ma'am. Is this Ms. Pierce's home? I'm Trenton Thompson, the butler of Mr. Hudson Reynolds. I came bearing gifts for Ms. Pierce."

The second Trenton Thompson finished stating his mission, a couple of bodyguards appeared behind him. Each of them was holding gift boxes.

All eyes in the living room turned in the direction of the door. Surprise was written all over their faces.

Every item was luxurious. They included full sets of jewelry, antiques, and paintings.

Hazel's eyes and mouth were two times wider than normal. She knew at a glance that the cost of one set of jewelry was probably equal to the Pierce family's annual income.

Seeing their surprised gazes, Trenton smiled and said calmly, "Excuse me, which one of you is Ms. Pierce?"

There was no doubt that Trenton was capable. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be working for such a big shot. He knew who owned the items, but he just wanted to keep the people in suspense until Noah revealed it himself.

This was not only to give Charlotte a huge surprise, but to also launder Noah's image and make him more honorable.

The people present shared confused glances. Charlotte was even more confused than the rest of them. Shaking her head, she said, "These items can't be for me. I'm not expecting any presents from anyone."

Hazel, who was already imagining how these items would increase the family's net worth, immediately walked forward and pulled Charlotte's sister, Caroline. She looked at Trenton and said, "Then they must be for Caroline. Maybe Mr. Reynolds is a fan of Caroline's."

Other relatives nodded in agreement. "It's normal for them to favor her. After all, she is a celebrity."

Caroline actually made her debut when she was just a child. Although she had been in the entertainment industry for many years, she didn't have tangible achievements and she was not so famous.

But in her mind, she was a big star whom many loved for her talent.

Now, she only put up a little hesitation before taking the gifts with a smile. She couldn't help but daydream.

Was this going to be a continuous occurrence? Was she now so famous that fans would send her gifts?

"Thanks for bringing the gifts in person," Caroline said shyly.

Others' eyes widened in awe as she carefully opened the boxes one by one.

Even Charlotte, who wasn't materialistic, was no exception. There was a hint of envy in her eyes as she watched.

Noah's heart ached. The gifts were rightfully Charlotte's, not Caroline's.

Unable to just stand back and watch, Noah stepped forward and said, "How are you so sure that the gifts are for Caroline?"

The members of the Pierce family all turned to look at Noah as if he just told the most outrageous joke they had ever heard.

Hazel said with disdain, "What did you just say? Don't you have brains, Noah? Who else will these items be for if not Caroline? How do you know they aren't hers? You are not even the one who sent the gifts!"

"Of course, I..." Just when Noah wanted to retort, he was interrupted by Charlotte.

"Noah, that's enough! Just drop it!"

When Noah saw that she was upset, he couldn't help but swallow the words in his mouth.

Trenton was about to explain, but Noah winked at him and shook his head.

Today was not the end of the world. He could always explain things in the future. For now, it was best not to provoke Charlotte who was already in a bad mood.

Cody seemed to finally find his tongue at this time. He uttered sarcastically, "Let me get this straight, Noah. Are you trying to say that you have something to do with the Reynolds family? Ha-ha! Who the hell do you think you are? How can such a distinguished family have any relations with you, a pauper?"
