Chapter 5 A Lifesaver

The car soon pulled up in front of an apartment building which was located in a quiet and beautiful community.

Waylon helped Yvonne with the luggage and led them to the apartment. He then said, "You both should stay here for now. I'll arrange a villa and then you can move in there."

Yvonne looked around, soon realizing that this apartment was good enough.

"This will do, Waylon. You don't have to prepare a villa. Thanks."

"It's okay."

Waylon was willing to do all this and more. After all, she was going to do him a favor too. He was counting on her to cure his great-grandfather's illness. Making her comfortable in this city was no big deal.

Yvonne and Aiden soon settled down in the apartment. Like every child his age, Aiden was curious about this new environment. He ran around the apartment for several minutes before asking excitedly, "Mommy, is this going to be our new home? I love it here!"

"Yes, it is!" Yvonne patted his head and said with a smile. "I'm glad you like it. Let's stay here, okay?"

"Okay!" he replied, gesturing with his fingers.

The time Yvonne decided to return to Egoford, one of her greatest worries was how Aiden would cope. She wondered if he would have a hard time adapting to the new environment. Now, she was pleased that he liked the apartment and wanted to live here. Aiden suddenly hugged her and said softly, "I have always wanted to visit your hometown and know what your life was like before you had me. I'm happy we are here now."

Yvonne was taken aback by those words.

This son of hers was so sensible beyond his years. Never did it occur to her that he was having such thoughts.

Aiden was her source of strength. Yvonne didn't think she would have survived these past few years if not for him.

She was grateful to God for giving her such a thoughtful child.

Happy tears made her eyes sting as she wrapped her arms around his tiny body. She kissed his soft cheek and said, "Had I known that you were looking forward to coming here, I'd have come here sooner. Anyway, I promise that we would no longer wander. I'll take care of everything here as fast as I can. Then, we will live happily ever after."

"Pinky promise?" Aiden and his mother crossed their pinkies. He then lowered his head to hide the meaningful glint in his eyes.

In his mind, he swore to deal with everyone who hurt his mother in the past. He knew that she came here to settle scores with bad people.

The next morning, warm sun rays peeped through the curtains and fell on Yvonne's face. She stirred a little and opened her eyes. They fell on Aiden who was sleeping in her arms. She kissed him on the forehead and got out of bed slowly.

"Mommy, are you going for the interview now?" Aiden, who was awoken by the stir, asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"Yes, dearie. You have to stay at home and be a good boy, okay? I have sent a message to Isabella. She will come to keep you company later."

Aiden jumped into his mother's arms. Rubbing his nose against hers, he said confidently, "You are so excellent, Mommy. I'm sure you will pass the interview. Go there and show them what you have got!"

Yvonne laughed, her heart very warm.

She washed up quickly and wore a professional suit that accentuated her slim-thick figure. She applied light makeup and styled her hair. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she raised her right fist and said, "You have got this, Yvonne!"

"Aiden, I'm off!"

After kissing her son and reminding him to be good, Yvonne left home. She walked to the roadside to take a taxi. Suddenly, a man bumped into her and was about to fall into her arms. She caught him, confused. What was wrong with him?

"Hey, mister!" Yvonne uttered, seeing that the man's eyes were shut and his face was pale. His eyelashes quivered a little, but it didn't look like he was pretending. She noticed that he was well dressed. He didn't look like a scammer who was only acting so she could let down her guard before he struck.

"Ahem..."

The man coughed and gasped as if he had just run a marathon. His chest was heaving repeatedly. Yvonne put him on the bench close by. She checked his pulse for clues as to what was wrong with him.

"Oh, you are asthmatic!"

Yvonne quickly searched his pockets and briefcase for an inhaler. Asthmatic people usually took inhalers everywhere they went. However, there was none on this man.

His breathing was becoming heavier and his face turned red. Many people gathered around to watch the scene. Some of them even took their phones and began to record.

It was an unwelcomed distraction at this time. Nonetheless, Yvonne remained calm and called 911. She gave him first aid till the ambulance arrived. He then was lifted into it and sent to the nearest hospital.

The doctor who attended to the man was surprised that he had survived even though he didn't have an inhaler. He shook hands with Yvonne and said, "You are a lifesaver, Miss. Are you a doctor? If you hadn't given him first aid, he would have died long before he was brought in here."

Yvonne just smiled.

She sorted out the medical bill and contacted his relative. She didn't leave the hospital until the person came.

As she walked out of the hospital, she looked at her watch and found that it was already past ten o'clock.

"Gosh, I'm already late!" Yvonne exclaimed, hoping she would be forgiven for being late.
