Chapter 5 Keep Digging!

With the sudden turn of events, the entire shop was filled with dead silence.

The other people present couldn't help but cast a sympathetic look at the shop assistant, who obviously felt that she was being wronged to the extreme. At this time, the manager finally made an appearance. But as soon as he locked eyes with the shop assistant, he signaled her to follow the customer's orders. It wasn't the time to defend the shop assistant's pride. After all, this was business. The price of the wedding dress was higher than the rest of the items in the shop, which meant that they could make lots of profit once they sold it.

On the other hand, Zayden's expression remained calm. There was only a cold look in his eyes that established his superiority.

Feeling all the awkwardness, Meagan couldn't help gripping Zayden's hand hard.

She leaned a little closer to him and whispered, "Forget it. We don't need to really buy it. This wedding dress is very expensive! Besides, I won't even have the chance to wear it in the future..."

But Zayden just ignored her. Instead, he said to the shop assistant flatly, "Here's the card. Use it. No password."

Finally hearing that they were really buying the dress, the manager and the designer stepped up to apologize.

Zayden went out for a while and smoked by the door. At the same time, Meagan's sizes were being measured inside. No one dared to look down upon her right now. After all the commotion earlier, the shop assistant was scolded by the manager behind the counter and dared not make another scene. Meanwhile, the designer kept praising Meagan's good figure, and even the manager treated her as their most distinguished guest, serving her with utmost care.

After a while, the tedious process was finally done, and the newly-wed couple were able to leave the wedding dress shop. But on their way back, Meagan seemed to be depressed.

After all, the wedding dress they bought cost more than 30 thousand dollars.

She bit her lips in regret as she looked at the man beside her. However, he was still calm and cold.

Not able to contain her emotions anymore, Meagan spoke up. "Zayden... I have something to tell you."

Zayden suddenly stopped walking, wondering what it was about.

Meagan's expression looked very serious. Her big black eyes blinked once in a while, and her lips were slightly pursed.

"Just now, in the shop... You were too impulsive."

Zayden tilted his head a little, furrowing his brows. "Why?"

"I mean... You really didn't have to do that. We could have handled the commotion differently. Now, we ended up buying this wedding dress. It cost us more than 30 thousand dollars, when we could have used it for other necessary things. Do you know how long we can live with just that amount of money?"

Zayden seemed to be a little confused, which was actually his genuine reaction. He really didn't know how long they could live with it, because in the past, that amount of money was not even enough to buy one of his regular meals.

Meagan glanced at him from time to time, but she found that there was still no real change on his expression.

Meagan eventually softened her tone and added, "Of course... I'm not blaming you. I just want to remind you that since we are now married, we need to plan for the future... And that includes where we spend our money. I know you wanted to help me vent my anger, and I appreciate you for it. But you need to bear it when you should. As a family, we have lots of other important things to spend on..."

A family?

For some reason, when Zayden heard this, the cold expression on his face dissipated.

"Besides, I haven't gotten my dowry yet. I will need to use it on something else once I receive it. Anyway, it'll be better if we don't waste so much money like this in the future..."

Meagan's voice became lower and lower as she continued speaking. As soon as she thought of her hospitalized mother and her brother, who was in dire need of money for his living expenses, the anxiety on her face became pretty apparent. But of course, she didn't dare let Zayden know about her circumstances. After all, in front of him, she should be Winona Allison.

Deeming that Meagan already finished her speech, Zayden repeated her words in a low voice, letting out a faint smile. "Waste money? I didn't think that I would hear this from a lady from the Allison family. Why do I feel that you are reluctant on spending money?"

With her eyes wide open, Meagan realized that she talked too much, and she might have gotten out of character. Her heart was beating fast. Thus, she quickly changed the topic and asked, "Are you thirsty? Let me buy some drinks first."

Then, she turned around and quickly went to the convenience store on the street without turning back.

Looking at her petite and flurried figure, Zayden shook his head slightly, grinning. But after a moment, his phone suddenly vibrated. When he saw the number on the screen, the smile on his face instantly froze.

He answered the call, going back to his normal cold attitude. "How is it going?"

The person on the other end of the line replied in a low voice, "Mr. Friedman, the investigation is almost done. For now, we can confirm that on the day of your private plane's accident, someone did tamper with the plane. We don't have enough evidence yet in our hands, but the person behind it should be who you think it is."

With a darkened face, Zayden said coldly, "Good. Keep digging!"

"Yes, sir. We will. But Mr. Friedman... How long are you staying in that village in Oreburgh? Are you sure you don't need to go back to Ardledo first?"
