Chapter 4 Military

"Patrick! Don't you dare sell your kidney!" Laura suddenly shouted, eyes wide in shock.

She wanted to snatch the file from his hand, but she was too weak to even raise hers.

Patrick shook his head firmly. "It's just a kidney, Mom. If it can make your healthy again, it's worth it!"

Laura gripped his arm and said mournfully, "No! Patrick, you are my son! How can I let you hurt yourself like this?"

The two of them were arguing on the hospital steps, which attracted the attention of many passers-by.

Just then, Percy approached them with security guards. He stopped right in front of Patrick, smiling sinisterly.

He whispered like a devil in Patrick's ear, tempting him against his will.

"Can't you see? Your mother is dying. She's the one who brought you into this world. Don't you want to save her life in return?"

Patrick clenched his fists, and Percy continued to speak, his smile widening.

"Forget it. It looks to me that you don't care about your mother's condition. She doesn't have much time to live anyway."

The expressions of the people around changed dramatically.

They all pointed at Patrick and accused him.

"What an ungrateful son! He refuses to spend some money to save his mother. What a cold-hearted bastard!"

"Yeah! He's even worse than an animal. Damn it! His mother looks terrible. Why is he taking her out of the hospital?"

"Don't you get it? He's stingy and doesn't want to spend money on his mom's hospital bills! Too bad. He looks like a decent man. How could he be so vicious?"

The passers-by began to swarm around them like an angry mob. One of them accidentally bumped into Laura.

The force made Laura tilt forward, and she didn't have the strength to steady herself.

She was plummeting towards more than a dozen steps.

Patrick's eyes narrowed. He had to move quickly. Gritting his teeth, he tried to catch his mother and pulled her into his arms, but he ended up falling down with her.

Patrick quickly twisted his body to cushion her fall. In doing so, his forehead hit the hard step and he felt a sharp pain instantly.

There was a nasty gash covered in grey soot on his forehead and it bled profusely.

The thick, gooey blood trickled down his face.

Slowly, the blood flowed down the bridge of his nose.

Patrick held his mother tightly in his arms. He could hardly feel her breath.

"Mom! Are you okay?" Patrick ignored the pain and checked on Laura worriedly.

"Oh, my God! How did she fall? Did he push her? He wants his mother to die! What a heartless bastard!"

"He looks like a college student. If I were him, I'd drop out of school and use the tuition to pay for my mother's medical fees. He's just too selfish."

"He's nothing but a selfish brat!"

As the crowd jeered at him, Patrick could feel his mother's breath getting weaker and weaker. Tears welled up in his eyes.

The blood trickling from his forehead seeped into his eyes, blinding him.

"Mom! Please hang on!" Patrick shouted hysterically, cradling his frail mother close.

His tears rolled down his cheeks, crimson from the blood.

And now, Patrick's eyes were bloodshot. He raised his head and glared at everyone standing around.

His resentment was so tangible, like a bloodthirsty knife.

Everyone was shocked by the crazed look in his bloodshot eyes.

Percy watched this scene unfold with great interest. He felt it was the best opportunity, so he stepped forward to get Patrick to sign the contract.

However, just as he opened his mouth to speak, the ground started to tremble slightly.

In the distance came a military truck blotched with camouflage colors.

Its thick tires left clear marks on the soil. Finally, it came to a stop right by the gate of the hospital.

Four soldiers promptly got out of the vehicle. All of them wore protective goggles, masking their faces, and they were all armed with assault rifles.

They raised their rifles and aimed at the crowd.

"What the hell is going on? Who are these people? Are there terrorists in the hospital?"
