Chapter 3 The Selfless Love Of A Mother

"What the fuck! You bastard!"

The security guard cradled his bruised face and immediately retaliated by kicking Patrick in the chest.

The terrifying force sent Patrick flying several feet backward and he rammed into the trash can, knocking it over and spilling its contents all over the floor.

"This look suits you perfectly. You're just as disgusting as trash!" The security guard sneered and wrinkled his nose at Patrick with unmasked disdain.

Laura couldn't just sit still while her son was being beaten before her very eyes.

Even a weak woman would find the strength to protect her children, and Patrick's mother was no different. She gritted her teeth and gathered all the strength left in her body to steady herself.

She moved one trembling leg after another, slowly making her way towards Patrick. But before she could reach him, she had used up all her energy and gradually sank to the floor. Unwilling to give up, she started crawling instead.

"Stop... Don't you dare hit my son!"

Laura cried out with her last ounce of remaining strength as she stopped in front of Patrick, her body shielding his. Tears rolled down her sunken cheeks uncontrollably, matting her hair.

Her shaky hands were bone-thin and covered with calluses, but she didn't hesitate to stretch out her arms to protect her son.

She was the backbone of this family, and she wasn't about to back down now.

Seeing this, Patrick felt completely and utterly helpless.

Despite the pain, he gritted his teeth and slowly got to his feet to carefully help his mother up.

"Mom, let's get out of here! We won't stay in a shitty hospital like this!"

After all, Laura was in poor health.

Instead of staying and fighting the staff here, Patrick needed to find her another hospital as soon as possible.

The security guards sneered, feeling fortunate that they didn't have to lift a finger to kick these two disgusting people out.

Patrick and his mother slowly made their way to the hospital's exit.

When the people around saw the icky-looking red spots on Laura's skin, their expressions changed greatly and they quickly shrank away.

"The poor have all kinds of diseases. Don't get close to them or you might get infected."

"They smell terrible! I hope they're leaving!"

Patrick was already too disheartened to care about all the nasty things these people had to say about them. All he cared about now was his mother's health.

Finally, they made it to the gate.

Patrick felt something tug on his arm and he looked down, only to find his mother leaning against him weakly.

Her breath was faint and it seemed she had lost all of her strength.

The ordeal had completely worn her out.

"Mom!" Patrick shouted anxiously. He looked around quickly, but he couldn't find a suitable place for his mother to rest.

So he helped her sit down on the steps.

His mother's half-closed eyes were heavy with guilt and helplessness.

Gasping for breath, she raised her withered hand with difficulty and stroked Patrick's face.

Feeling her calloused skin brushing against his cheek, Patrick couldn't help but hold her hand.

Laura looked as though she was about to pass out, but she managed to push out a few words.

"Patrick, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault I'm a loser and I keep dragging you down..."

A lump formed in Patrick's throat as he listened. He gritted his teeth and turned his face away, unwilling to show his mother the tears that were welling up in his eyes.

"You're not a loser, Mom. You provided for me. You're my mother. You'll be fine, I promise. I'll do whatever I can to make sure you get better."

At that moment, Patrick made up his mind. He slowly helped his mother stand up. Only then did she notice the file in his hand.

It was an organ donation contract.
