Chapter 2 A Glimmer Of Hope

"Well, you can always sell your kidney." As he spoke, Percy grinned as if his trick had succeeded.

Seeing Patrick's expression harden, he continued, "Everyone has two kidneys. Even if you lost one of them, you'd still survive. If you agree to sell one of your kidneys, one hundred thousand dollars will be transferred to your account immediately. Think it over, okay? There's not much time left. If your mother doesn't receive treatment as soon as possible, then..."

Percy let his voice trail off on purpose. Then he pulled out an organ donation contract from the drawer and threw it on the table.

"Sign this. Don't you want to help your mother?"

Percy's words were like the whispers of a demon, echoing in Patrick's ears ominously.

"I... I need time to think." Patrick gritted his teeth as he eyed the document on the table.

With a heavy heart, he picked up the document and walked out of the office.

Percy watched Patrick leave and couldn't help but sneer.

A fresh kidney was worth over a million dollars in the black market.

But not everyone was desperate to sell a kidney. Percy didn't want to give Patrick too much time to think about it.

"Tell the security to go to Ward 307 and drive Laura Nelson out!"

Laura Nelson was none other than Patrick's mother.

After giving the order, Percy put the phone down and smiled faintly.

Now Patrick would have no choice but to sell his kidney.

Patrick made his way towards his mother's ward, thinking about whether he should sell his kidney or not.

Just then, his phone started to ring. It was from an unknown number.

Patrick answered the phone warily, and an old man's voice sounded from the other end of the line.

"Is this Mr. Patrick Nelson? I'm the butler of your father, Mr. Walter Nelson. My name is-"

It was clear to Patrick that this was nothing but a scam call. It wasn't that strange that the fraud knew his name.

Realizing this, Patrick smiled bitterly.

"You know what? I'm so close to selling my kidney. Your tricks aren't going to work on me, okay? So just give it up."

Without giving the old man a chance to respond, Patrick hung up abruptly.

Nowadays, these scammers were getting less and less believable.

Walter Nelson? Seriously? He was the richest man in the country! How could that man be his father?

But how he wished that it could be true! He wouldn't have to worry about selling a kidney to afford treatment for his mother's illness.

Patrick shook his head wryly and forced himself to focus on the present.

Elvin, the butler who had just called, was horrified.

"Mr. Nelson? Hello?"

But the call was already disconnected

Was Patrick going to sell his kidney? Elvin's heart leaped to his throat as his anxiety ate him alive.

Who dared to take a Nelson's kidney?

"Track his cell phone. I need to find him as soon as possible!"

On his way to the ward, Patrick ran into a crowd of people blocking the corridor.

As soon as he managed to weave his way through the crowd, he heard a commotion coming from the ward.

"Damn it! This woman's already half dead. Why is she still in the hospital? Throw her out!"

Just then, a very haggard middle-aged woman was violently shoved out of the ward by several security guards. The weak woman could barely hold herself up and fell to the floor.

The woman was none other than Patrick's mother. Shocked, he pushed through the crowd and ran up to her.

"Ouch..." Laura's chapped, bloodless lips parted as she let out a low, pained groan.

"Mom!"

Patrick hurried to help her up. Almost immediately, his eyes landed on the fresh cut on his mother's shrunken arm.

Someone must've yanked the needle from her arm forcefully. Something exploded inside Patrick and he glowered at the security guards ferociously.

"What the hell are you doing? My mother is a patient here. How dare you treat her like this?"

The security guard in the lead simply sneered. "Oh, please. Just look at yourself in the mirror. You can't afford to keep your mom here. She's just wasting space!"

His chest heaving violently, Patrick couldn't contain his anger any longer.

He clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Without warning, he suddenly took a step forward and threw a punch at the security guard.

His fist landed right in the man's face!
