Chapter 7 Monsters in the Way

Sunny was the last to enter the elevator that led down to the basement. Before they left, Vincent asked Sunny to stay and watch the security screen.

If something goes wrong with them, you should immediately leave the research institute along the old path. But as soon as Vincent said this thought, Sunny brushed it off.

She couldn't let them enter such a dangerous place alone. Although it can't be of much help, at least Sunny will be the most accurate living map to guide them to escape.

Knowing that Sunny could not be persuaded, Vincent's group had to bring the young girl along.

And just like the last time, Vincent still did not forget to warn her: "This time, your brother must also follow me."

Sunny quickly nodded.

The elevator doors closed in front of them, bringing the group down to the area below the basement. With each passing minute, Sunny's heart beat faster than before. The elevator's movement speed was proportional to the frequency with which her heart increased.

The number of floors displayed on the control panel gradually decreases to 0, then the letters count down according to the Alpha board. Until the displayed letter is E, the elevator shows signs of stopping.

Before the elevator door opened, Sunny suddenly pressed the pause button, causing the door to stand still. Everyone was very confused, looking at the young girl.

Sunny didn't take long to tell them what she was doing. She pulled another alarm from her pocket, then said, "Okay, help me open the door."

Looking at the small toy in Sunny's hand, the men immediately understood the problem. The undead was attracted by the loud noise, and Sunny intended to use this alarm as bait.

If there were any living creatures called undead living in the basement, it would be called by the deafening noise of this thing.

"If something goes wrong, we'll get back to the surface right away." Vincent nodded to assure Sunny, that he was the one who pushed the button to open the elevator door.

As soon as the door opened to a very small gap, Sunny removed the safety latch of the alarm and threw it out forcefully. The bell immediately made a noise, but the space around it was completely silent without even the slightest sound.

The silence that enveloped everything made people shiver.

Sunny also did not expect the basement to be a safe place, the corners of her tired lips forced a smile: "We..."

"Whist!" Vincent cautiously raised his hand to his lips, signaling her to keep quiet.

He waved his hand to signal everyone to leave the elevator as gently as possible. Vincent took the lead to bring everyone close to the wall of the basement, hiding behind a row of sturdy metal machines.

Just as the last man entered his hiding place, suddenly from afar came the sound of clattering footsteps. The sounds come out very slowly, even with perfect periodicity.

"About ten, perhaps?" One person spoke up after he counted the number of footsteps that rang out.

Vincent shook his head: "Not a zombie! Can't you hear it coming from... The ceiling?"

Vincent's words made everyone shiver. The zombies only moved on the ground, so what was clinging to the ceiling and coming towards them?

People will not have to wonder for too long when the giant shape of the grotesque monster gradually appears under the light of the piggy bank. It takes the form of a spider but is a spider with the maximum size as magnified by Doraemon's magic flashlight.

Stiff black hairs crept up to the ceiling, creating long deep grooves after it moved. The mucus released from its mouth is milky white like goat's milk and is the tool that helps it keep its massive body hanging upside down from the ceiling without falling.

It slowly landed on the ground where the whistle was loudest.

"Um!" There was a loud bang, then the sirens went out.

There was a small hole in the ground, below which were fragments of a siren. The monster only needed one leg to create a hole through the hard floor.

Sunny had almost held her breath since the monster appeared. It was she who called it out here and now she regrets that decision again.

"You didn't expect it yourself, did you?" Vincent whispered in her ear.

He could feel the fear growing in Sunny's eyes. Perhaps she was regretting that she had caused a ruckus just now. But if she hadn't, they'd probably have been eaten alive by it on the way to the research room.

"Yes, I didn't know that besides the zombies, there was this creature here?" Sunny frowned.

After all, what kind of monstrous things did Professor Tadhg and senior Gwyn create? Why isn't there anything out of the ordinary in their research?

"How to beat it, it's blocking our way." One man said.

Unfortunately, even if they wanted to avoid the mutant spider, they couldn't. The only path leading to Professor Tadhg's lab lies directly behind it.

To get to that room, you must pass the spider stage.

Vincent was silent and did not answer immediately, he was still thinking about the plan in his head. Judging from the characteristics he observed, it wouldn't be easy to defeat it.

"Can I get it to run in the other direction like before?" Suddenly Sunny came up with an extremely naive idea.

If they used force to destroy the monster, it would not be possible to kill it, possibly even causing heavy casualties to the whole team. The best way she could think of was to use a loud noise to continue to lure the mutant spider away from that place.

"Do you have any alarm bells left?" One of Vincent's subordinates asked.

According to their rough calculations, at least two bells were needed to buy time. After they reached the laboratory door, it took about four or five seconds to open the door.

Will they be able to hold back any monsters in that short time so that they can all retreat safely?

Sunny shook her head sadly.

Silas gave her many small alarm bells to hang on her backpack, but here she only brought two, the rest were left at home.

The men weren't disappointed at the young girl's shake of the head. Because they found a way to lure the spider away.

On the other side of the underground reception hall is the fire alarm system. If this system can be activated, it will create an extremely noisy siren, the effect is better than Sunny's small whistle.

Said and done, Vincent brought a person with him towards the fire alarm system. And Sunny and the other three continued to hide behind the large machines.

Sunny snuggled up against the metal table, feeling the cold pass through her skin. However, her body was now very hot, and sweat was pouring out of her forehead.

The little girl's eyes could not leave Vincent's back, as he used the items in the hall to creep silently to the other side of the room. Almost immediately, Sunny had to hold her head with both hands. The sound of sirens rang in the sky, and the water from the fire hydrants poured down wet.

Sunny and the giant spider were all drenched in water. Through the dense water, Sunny could see Vincent and his crew returning to them.

However, this time it was not as convenient as when going. Somehow the spider became crazy, it moved irregularly and staggered around the large room.

The louder the alarm, the more intense the madness of the giant spider became. Its sharp legs twitched violently like it was having a seizure.

Unfortunately, its direction of movement was aimed at Vincent and his teammates' shelter. Sunny couldn't sit still anymore, she ignored the pounding headache when she had to endure the loud sound and stood up.

"Let's go, everyone supports him, I will quickly open the door for everyone." Sunny spoke quickly through the rain.

The three men nodded at Sunny and dashed out, running to where Vincent was struggling with the spider's sharp talons.

Sunny's legs no longer belonged to her, the girl used all her strength to run as fast as possible towards the door leading to the research room. With the fastest speed she could, she hurriedly swiped the code and pressed the password to open the door.

After the door refused to open, Sunny happily shouted: "Okay, come quickly!"

But when Sunny turned her head to call everyone, a horrifying scene happened right in front of the girl's eyes.
