Chapter 11 Fragile hope.

/ 1

Sunny sobbed in Mr. Tadhg's arms, seemingly venting her entire heart of her tears. Professor Tadhg still gently comforted Sunny with her warm voice, her free hand gently patting the little girl's head.
Old eyes turned to Vincent standing next to him, beckoning him softly. With a quick movement, Vincent hit Sunny on the back of the neck, knocking her unconscious.
Professor Tadhg carefully handed Sunny over to Vincent, he glanced at the time ticking by seconds on the digital clock on the opposite wall: "You guys get out of here, someone has activated the mechanism. self-destruct. In less than thirty minutes, this place will explode."
Mr. Tadhg's words shocked the four men. Especially Tim, he excitedly ran to the professor and shouted.
"Why didn't you say earlier?"
Professor Tadhg looked at Tim coldly, if he guessed correctly, that man was the one who scolded Sunny. His little student did not know anything about the secret research in the basement, she must have been terrified when faced with those monstrous creatures.
But his Sunny was also blamed by the other, which made Mr. Tadhg angry.
He didn't pay any attention to Tim, focusing only on Vincent: "Behind the shelf over there is an emergency exit, there are several moving compartments inside. Follow that to exit, the password to open the door is 87590. After entering the compartment, just push the right control lever, it operates automatically according to the pre-set process."
Vincent did not panic, he entrusted Sunny to a trusted comrade. Then step to the shelf leaning against the wall in the right corner, just need to use a little force to push to make the shelf move.
Behind it hides a secret door with a control panel to enter the password. Vincent pressed each digit exactly, and the door immediately opened.
Revealing the inside of the large vertical cylindrical tubes. The tube is so big that it can hold an adult.
Inside the solid pipes are capsule compartments with tight-fitting lids. If you don't look closely, people will likely mistake this as a scene that only appears in sci-fi movies.
Vincent thought to himself, from the moment he entered the number two research institute, everything he encountered was like a horror fiction movie!
"Professor, what about you?" Vincent asked.
Professor Tadhg was still staring at Sunny, and when he heard the question, he smiled softly: "Leave me a gun, I don't want to burn to death."
When the institute explodes, Mr. Tadhg will surely have to endure the pain of being devoured by extremely hot flames. He didn't want himself to be in such pain, and he didn't want to leave when he couldn't see Sunny anymore.
His love for the little student soon surpassed the usual teacher-student love.
Vincent did not hesitate to pull out the pistol from his belt and set it down beside Mr. Tadhg. Then respectfully greeted him with a standard military gesture.
He knew this professor who had lived his life in awe of everyone, wanting to take his own life.
The respect he had for him was the last thing he could do to see Tadhg off on his way to his resting place.
Professor Tadhg smiled beautifully, picking up the gun Vincent had given him. His eyes never left Sunny's sleeping face, sadness filling them.
"Please protect Sunny and the suitcase well, those two things are the hope of all mankind in the future."
Professor Tadhg's last words of advice to Vincent. Ever since he saw them, Vincent's gaze towards Sunny was always filled with tender concern.
Among the people present, Mr. Tadhg could only trust Vincent. So he deliberately emphasized the latter part, forcing him to remember her importance.
"I will definitely protect Sunny to reach King's Landing safely."
A crisp shot rang out as Vincent's solemn oath ended. Professor Tadhg left with a smile still on his lips.
Vincent reached out and stroked Mr. Tadhg's wide eyes, hoping he could rest in peace.
In the midst of such an emotional scene, suddenly Tim's grumbling voice resounded: "Damn, there are only four moving compartments, we were fooled by that old man."
Everyone turned their heads to look, as expected, as Tim said, there were only four moving compartments. In all, there are five metal pipes, logically there should be five chambers corresponding to each pipe.
But the first pipe was empty, maybe someone used this cavity to get out.
Now including Sunny, there are five of them. Who will stay?
"I told you, I won't stay." Saying that Tim quickly opened the door of the nearest capsule and ducked inside.
To everyone's surprise, he pushed the joystick inside the capsule. The movement process was immediately activated, a tremendous force propelling the capsule deep inside the pipeline, disappearing at the end of the tunnel turn.
After escaping out of fear of Tim's death, they were left with only three moving compartments.
The rest of the people's faces were pale, no one said a word to each other.
Suddenly, the person who had been injured by the spider silk on his leg spoke up: "Captain, leave me here. I'm injured, it's not convenient to help everyone."
He tried to smile, but deep in his eyes was a fear of being abandoned. Just considering the immediate situation, the only way to make sacrifices is that the whole team can get out safely.
Perhaps Professor Tadhg also knew that, so he chose to commit suicide so as not to entangle everyone.
"Leon, you don't have to worry, we won't leave anyone behind." Vincent put his hand on Leon's shoulder, gently patting it reassuringly.
While everyone is still confused as to how he will handle this. How is it possible to get out safely and leave no one behind?
The countdown is getting closer and closer to the hour of death. Looking at the number displayed on the clock makes everyone nervous.
Vincent examined the capsule for a moment and then made a decision: "Leon, Matthew, you two go first."
"Captain, no way."
"What about Sunny? We can't leave her alone."
Both of them protested together, but Vincent shook his head: "Didn't I say I wouldn't leave anyone? Sunny and I would go to the last compartment together."
Leon and Matthew reluctantly entered the capsule, then pressed the lever before Vincent's steady gaze. After seeing that the two comrades had safely left, Vincent breathed a sigh of relief.
He quickly removed all the bulky equipment on his body, even the thick outer layer was thrown aside. It was only when his upper body was bare and his soldier-style trousers were left to stop him.
The suitcase was given to Matthew to hold, he just had to ensure Sunny's safety.
He carried the sleeping girl to his lap, carefully laid his down in the capsule, and hugged her tightly. How lucky that both of them were in the same compartment.
It's a bit cramped and uncomfortable, but it's still better than sacrificing anyone.
The compartment door slowly closed, and Vincent pushed the joystick. The capsule darted forward at breakneck speed.
Vincent closed his eyes, wrapping his arms around Sunny's body getting tighter and tighter.
When this little girl wakes up and finds her teacher dead. Will she be able to get over this shock?
That is still a mystery. He just hoped that she wouldn't spend too much time grieving and tormenting herself.
In his memory of her, from childhood Sunny was a sentimental and honest child. I don't know that now that girl has grown up, will that sentimentality still exist?
