Chapter 6 Basement Area Without Zombies

The ventilation system in the control room is built quite specifically, wrapping around both the first and second floors of the control area. Right under their feet, there was a place that could lead to that ventilation system.

After listening carefully to the plan from Vincent's mouth, the five men and one girl began to tidy up their belongings. The ventilation duct is not too large, enough for an adult to pass through, but without removing the equipment on the person, it is very difficult to move inside the pipe.

Vincent used a vent cap opener, revealing the long winding pipe inside. Sunny was the first to get into the pipe, followed by Vincent and the rest of them in turn.

Vincent's plan wasn't too complicated.

Judging from the actual situation in front of them, any one of them could see that they couldn't exterminate all of the undead in the room without getting hurt. So the best way, in this case, is to take a detour and stay away from the zombies as far as possible.

If it wasn't an emergency, they wouldn't have to risk their lives to confront it.

The ventilation system is divided into two distinct parts, one covering the first floor, and the other running along with the gray ceiling. They were following the pipe covering the first floor to get below, only then could Vincent's team access the elevator leading to the underground floor.

Of course, that's not the only plan.

Moving in the narrow pipeline caused Sunny many difficulties. Even the air inside was stifling, making it hard for the young girl to breathe. Beads of sweat the size of peas continuously poured out on the girl's forehead, sliding through the gas mask and falling to the floor below.

Vincent walked right behind Sunny, seeing her condition like that, and suddenly asked: "Sunny, are you okay?"

Sunny didn't want to waste any more time, she hurriedly shook her head and replied, "I'm fine, don't worry about me."

When she crawled to a ventilation hatch located just above the entrance control panel, Sunny stopped. She quickly lifted her body and crawled to the opposite side, making room for Vincent to move forward.

He pressed his body to the ventilation cover made of lightning alloy, through the upper eyes to observe the situation below. The walking zombies did not distract Vincent, all he noticed was that the controller attached to the security door was in the right position.

The height from the vent cover to the controller is just right for a small person to swing upside down to reach.

Vincent received the crowbar transmitted from his comrades behind him. He tried his best not to make any noise, pry open the vent cap, and gently moved it to the side.

He glanced at Sunny on the opposite side: "Are you ready?"

"Okay, let's get started." Sunny nodded.

She took off all the things she was wearing, and carefully crept over to the hole. First the head, then the chest, then the belly. Sunny's body slowly floated in the air and was lowered towards the control panel.

Until the girl's line of sight was level with the controller, Sunny immediately signaled Vincent to stop. Now she was hanging in a head-down position with her legs still attached to the air vent, which Vincent was holding.

At this moment, Sunny feels lucky because of her supple body. If she didn't regularly practice yoga to train her body, she probably wouldn't be able to do this uncomfortable move.

She had to act quickly before the zombies noticed her.

Thinking so, Sunny immediately put her hand on the control panel to scan the biometric code and entered the password to open the security door. When the first-floor security door was opened, Sunny took out another siren that Silas had given her.

The girl pulled out the safety pin, causing the horn to ring with a shrill sound, attracting the entire attention of the zombies in the room. Sunny quickly threw the whistle out the open door, the whistle fell into the void outside the corridor.

At the same time Vincent hastily pulled Sunny back to the ventilation duct, he complimented her: "Good job!"

Not only he, but others also had to nod in recognition. If it was an ordinary girl who was in a situation like Sunny's, it's unlikely that they would have been calm enough to handle it like her.

The sound emitted by the siren attracted all the undead walking towards it, and at the same time leaving the central control room. Vincent's team breathed a sigh of relief when their plan worked.

They swung down, and quickly closed the security door, locking all the undead outside.

There were a few animals in the back that noticed something unusual as well as smelled a living person, so they turned back. They opened their crimson mouths wide, bared their bloody jagged teeth at Vincent and the others, then charged at them.

But before they could touch them, the heavy door slammed shut, leaving the undead screaming outside. The central control room is now open and airy, not any undead roaming inside.

People gathered around the center console, looking for a switch or a lock to open the elevator door leading down to the basement. Fortunately, Sunny didn't spend too much time searching, she pressed the right control button and a ting immediately sounded.

The tightly closed elevator doors were now open to welcome them.

Sunny smiled: "There it is, let's go."

But before the two of them entered the elevator, Vincent stopped them, he pointed to the entangled electronic screens in front of them and said: "Slowly, check the situation below first. Who knows what awaits them. What am I?"

His words made them shiver, it was too hasty.

When they reached the central control room, weren't they surprised to see hundreds of undead there? If they had rushed into the elevator and gone down to the basement just now, who knows when the elevator door opened, what kind of scary scene would they encounter?

Vincent's team split up to check the security screens in the basement area, perhaps their worries were superfluous when there was no sign of any zombies below. While checking the camera, suddenly a strange feeling enveloped Sunny.

From the time they set foot in the research until now, more or less, they will still meet the undead. Why is the underground floor so clean, as if there is no such thing as a living being called a zombie?

In her previous life, the reason why Sunny didn't know that Professor Tadhg and senior Gwyn secretly researched the undead was because they used this basement to hide. Her day job is mainly focused on leading the research team on the ground, sometimes going down to the underground area to meet the professor to report on work.

It can be said that the basement is the starting point of the zombies, there is no way that there are zombies anywhere else but this place does not.

Not only did Sunny notice this unusual thing, but one person after observing the screen also said: "It's strange, the underground area has no zombies! Don't people find it strange?"

Others also nodded in agreement: "It is not true. Why is it like that?"

Vincent himself confirmed what everyone just said, all the security screens were blank, and there was no sign of the undead below the basement area.

What the hell is going on here?

"Vincent, do you still keep in touch with the professor?" Sunny tried using her cell phone to contact Professor Tadhg, but no one picked up the phone.

Vincent hastily replied: "No, we only received a rescue order from the commander in chief. The last information we received was that Professor Tadhg was entrenched in the main research room."

Sunny rubbed her aching forehead, all the staff of the research institute perished after the disaster. On the way in, they did not find any survivors. So whether a professor with loosely tied chickens can survive among the zombies is still a difficult thing to say.

"Isn't there a monitor that can see the main research room?" Vincent rolled his eyes once.

But his reply was a shake of the head full of disappointment, the main research room contains scientific secrets that are not allowed to be revealed. Therefore, there is no surveillance camera inside to avoid leaking information to the outside.

Even the communication equipment from the central control room could not be connected to the main research room without the permission of the people inside. Just now Vincent tried using the communication device but it didn't work.

Professor Tadhg's current situation was like a thick fog that couldn't see the way.

Now they are faced with two choices, one is to enter the bizarre underground area to rescue the professor, or else to leave the research institute by the old way and report the mission failed. But no matter which path they choose, they still have to worry and wonder.

Sunny didn't want the team to take such risks. Especially since she already knew the outcome of this mission, perhaps that monstrous underground floor would be the burial ground for Vincent and the others.

To save Professor Tadhg, do you have to sacrifice others?

This is the latest question that just popped into Sunny's mind.

Before she could ponder any longer, Vincent had already rearmed his weapon and said: "Let's go, what are we waiting for. We've been here for a while, shouldn't we have visited this place? for your pleasure?"
