Chapter 6 I Am More Pitiful

On a busy street, as the sun is setting down, at the entrance of a coffee shop, many men are crowded waiting in line to enter the coffee shop for their drinks. Two ladies inside the shop are busy serving customers and trying to meet the orders of those outside the shop too. An hour later, the people had reduced but the room was still filled with mostly men. The two ladies are now left cleaning the spilt coffee and cleaning the bar but then they were feeling the eyes of the people on them. So much so that they don't know if they can handle it and how much longer they can.

One of the ladies had dark hair and she has it tied in a bun and the other has blonde hair and has it tied in a ponytail. The one with the dark hair has an oval face and fair skin, her eyes were shiny bright with the blue iris. When she smiles, a dimple can be seen on both sides of her cheeks and her body is slim with the right curves, her bosom was huge despite her slim body. The other girl is a simple looking blonde who can be called beautiful but not compared to her colleague beside her.

The blonde finally mustered up and decided to look back at the people but when she did, she saw that as always, almost none of the men were looking at her but one. All the rest has their eyes pinning holes in her colleague's body and face but she didn't seem to mind at all. So she decides to ask her,

"Are you aware of the stare's coming from the people here? It seems they have never seen anyone like you before."

She looks up from her busily cleaning hands and see the various eyes looking directly at her but she only heaves and a tiny smile appears on her face. Then she replies,

"That's only a common thing in my life, sometimes I believe the people around see more than I see in the mirror after all I am just an ordinary girl."

The other girl looks her up and down and hums and continues,

"If you are saying you are an ordinary girl, then the rest of us are just some bunch of ugliest in this society. What do you take me for? You should be a celebrity on the television that we will pay to catch a glimpse of you. I am only fifty per cent of your beauty, have you undergone any surgery or taken any medications to look this attractive?"

Her speech ignites her laughing nerve and she starts laughing, the people look on the more amazed. And the young ladies that have come to shop look at her with envy but they can only leave the place or sit and watch along with the men despite their irritation. The other lady sighs when she sees her laughing and shakes her head then says,

"At this rate, the owner will have to hire another person or two to keep the place running smoothly otherwise we will die out of exhaustion. From school and back to this place such a crowd will kill us very soon Rosaline. Do you think we will be able to close at six o'clock today?"

Rosaline laughs the more and looks at her self-pitying colleague and ends up sighing and then says that

"This happens at every place I work and my colleagues end up hating me because of the gifts I gain from the customers and the special treatment I get from my bosses. I know I might not take long at this place either. I should be the one sad here not you, skipping from one job to the other even though I have bills and fees to pay. Pity me my Sarah, I am more pitiful."

Sarah watches Rosaline looking at her disbelieving and asks her,

"So from what you are saying, is that you don't have anyone to cater for your bills with your beauty? If so then I can only say that you are an angel cursed with poverty. Even I have a boyfriend, where is yours?"

Rosaline shakes her head in thoughts, 'Who do I trust to be mine when every one of them just wants a taste of me? So they can brag to their friends about it.'

She sees that Sarah is expecting an answer from her so she replies,

"I can't afford any heartbreak, I am only after true love and not some stingy relationships."

Another hour later, they see that the people have dwindled to a few people, so Sarah hurriedly goes to the gate and changes the sign from open to close. The people inside see their intention and they start leaving but among them is a particular man who is seen still sitting even after all the customers have left. He is seen busily working on his laptop not paying attention to his environment what is going on around him. Sarah looks at him a little irritated and asks Rosaline to go and tell him that they were closing for the day. She agrees and walks over to him, she sees he is a handsome young man but that isn't her interest so she says,

"Good evening sir."

The man looks up from his laptop and looks at her dumbfounded and stilled but he breaks from it and he sees that she is looking at him intently waiting for him to respond. He clears his throat and speaks in almost a whisper,

"I am sorry what did you say?"

Rosaline sighs but with a smile and answers,

"I was greeting you and also I wanted to inform you that we were closing for the day. It seems you didn't notice that you were the only person here."

He beams a little and finally explains,

"I have been here the whole day, it seems you are just noticing my presence and I have been coming here almost every day. And I have not been able to speak to you, I felt like you were ignoring me purposely or am I wrong?"

She looks at him confused and surprised and answers him,

"I am sorry that you feel this way and it's my first time seeing you. So I don't think it's possible to ignore someone I haven't seen. I make the coffee and the other girl serves so I am sorry if you feel offended. "

The man shakes his head and announces,

"I am Joe, may I know your name and can I get to know you?"
