Chapter 9 Trading Something For Studying Abroad

"You! Where have you been? Are you deaf? You're becoming more and more difficult to deal with. This is the last time you will disobey me and your uncle."

Madisyn scolded Sherry the moment she stepped into the house.

Sherry didn't even dare to say anything because she knew that Madisyn wasn't wrong. Lowering her head, she simply endured Madisyn's anger silently.

"Well, cursing at her isn't going to help." Unexpectedly, Benson interrupted Madisyn before she could say anything else.

Standing in front of the handrail of the corridor on the second floor, Benson looked at Sherry with a tenderness that was far from his usual behavior. With a friendly smile on his face, he waved at her and said, "Sherry, come up to my study!"

Sherry had no idea what Benson wanted from her, but she nodded and went upstairs out of curiosity.

As she entered Benson's study, she saw Anne sitting on the sofa. "Hello, Anne."

"Sherry, please shut the door and have a seat," Benson said lovingly, as he sat down on the sofa and took a sip of tea from his cup.

"Okay." Sherry closed the door behind her and then sat down on the sofa right across Benson.

"Sherry, you have been doing very well in school. Your performance has been great and you're always working hard to keep your grades up and if I'm not mistaken, you're going to graduate from university at the age of twenty." Benson's face glowed with pride as he spoke.

Meanwhile, Anne cast Benson a confused glance, but even though she was worried, she hid it well under a flawless facade.

"Thank you for your kind words, uncle. Anne has been a great example for me." Sherry looked at both Benson and Anne with a grateful smile.

If it weren't for Anne bullying her since her childhood, she wouldn't have learned how to survive in this family.

Obedience and compliance were absolutely fundamental.

Benson nodded and he picked up the tea cup to take another sip before saying, "You and your sister are both my daughters. I've never treated you two differently. I've already discussed it with your mother and we've both decided to send you to England for further study."

England! For further study!

Sherry widened her eyes, wondering if she had heard him wrong.

Sherry received an offer from the London Business School to take up a Master in Science of Finance course.

When the offer letter was sent to her home, it eventually came to Benson's attention, who didn't sound very happy about it at the time.

Since Benson didn't agree to her going to London for further study back then, she stopped thinking about it as if it had never happened.

She came up with a different plan that involved her repaying Benson for raising her for all these years.

However, Benson was... Did he really change his mind about her studying abroad?

"Uncle, you... What did you just say? You... Are you sending me to England for grad school?"

"Yes, aren't you happy?" Anne contemptuously raised an eyebrow at Sherry.

"Yes, of course, I'm happy!" In fact, Sherry was so happy that she not only ignored Anne, she even forgot to question Benson's sudden change of heart. She nodded to show her gratitude and said, "Thank you, uncle. I promise I will work hard and make you proud. I'll repay you for everything you've done for me."

"I am very happy to hear that!" Benson nodded with satisfaction and continued, "I've almost got everything ready for you to study in England. You can pack up and fly out tomorrow."

"What... Tomorrow? " Sherry stared at him with a baffled expression because she didn't think she would have to leave in such a hurry. "But, what about my classes here? "

"Actually I've been arranging for you to study abroad these days, but I didn't tell you until it's settled."

Benson grinned, puffing his chest up like a proud father and added, "Don't worry about your classes here. I'll have someone complete the formalities for you tomorrow."

"But tomorrow... "

"But, what? You are moving to a new country. You'll need at least a few days to get adjusted to the new environment." Glancing at Sherry, Anne interrupted her before she could finish her words.

Sherry looked at Anne as she wanted to say something more, but after thinking for a while, she stopped.

Going to England for higher education was the biggest dream she had in recent years.

"All right then, it's settled." Anne raised her hand, running her fingers over the jade Buddha beaded bracelet and added, "One more thing. I've grown quite fond of this bracelet. I'm keeping this from now on."

"Anna, I'm sorry, but I can't give you that bracelet. Someone gave it to me for safe-keeping. I'll have to give it back one day." Sherry refused immediately.

She couldn't remember the last time she had refused Anne like that.

However, the moment she saw the bracelet on Anne's wrist, the words just flowed out of her mouth.

"What did you say? " Anne stared at Sherry, pulling a long face all of a sudden and added, "You've been living in our house for many years for free. My father is actually willing to spend his own money for you to study abroad and you can't give me a measly bracelet? That's not nice of you, Sherry."

"Sherry, it's just a bracelet. Since your sister likes it so much, why don't you just give it to her?"

With a cup of tea in his hand, Benson still wore a friendly expression on his face, but his next words were a clear threat. "After all, studying and living in a country like England isn't going to be cheap."

Sherry glanced at Benson and then she looked at Anne.

After all, she wasn't stupid. Benson's words were obvious enough. If she didn't give the bracelet to Anne, she would have to bid farewell to her dreams of studying abroad.

In truth, the last time she saw the person who gave her the bracelet was ten years ago. There was a chance that he wouldn't even show up in the future.

After all, when she saw him, the man was blind and his body was covered in wounds. Even if he did show up, how would he even recognize her?

Besides, Anne wasn't the type to hold on to something for a long time. Perhaps, she could ask it back from Anne when she'd lose interest in it in the future.

"Look at this bracelet! The craftsmanship is remarkable. I'm sure it's quite expensive. Did you steal it?" Anne wrinkled her nose in distaste.

"Of course not! I swear someone gave it to me!" Sherry spoke sincerely.

"Then tell me, who would give you such a valuable bracelet? When did he give it to you?" Anne looked at her suspiciously and said, "If you can't tell me the truth, my father and I will think that you stole it. In that case, you shouldn't go to England. I don't want you to tarnish our family's name."

"Uncle! Anne! The bracelet was sent to me by someone. Please believe me!" Sherry had a firm look on her face as she stared at both father and daughter, but she didn't want to tell them the truth about the bracelet's origin.

"If you don't want to tell me the truth, I will be forced to believe that the bracelet is actually stolen." Anne stood up and said to Benson, "Dad, call the police."

"I told you it wasn't stolen." Sherry couldn't understand why Anne was so fixated on this bracelet.

Unfortunately, she knew that Anne wouldn't stop at anything until she got what she wanted.

If Anne really called the police, Sherry's life would be in jeopardy. She would be killed in the prison and no one would know that. Not to mention for her to go to England to study.

"Okay, go ahead! Tell me how you came across the bracelet?" Anne was unspeakably excited, but she didn't show it on her face. With a stern expression on her face, she added, "You'd better tell me everything in detail. If you lie, don't blame me for being ruthless."

Sherry nodded her head, thinking back to ten years ago...
