Chapter 8 I Will Pay Back The Money

"Hey, stop! You're that jerk's girlfriend!"

Sherry didn't even realize how far she had walked until she got out of the in-patient building. As she walked towards the gate of the hospital, she heard a familiar voice coming from behind.

She stopped and looked back irritably.

She saw Cooper walking towards her with Kaiser trailing right behind him.

As she took a closer look, she saw Kaiser pushing an old man in a wheelchair, dressed in hospital scrubs. He had grey hair, but he seemed energetic for some reason.

"Oh, what a beautiful girl! Who is this young lady?" The old man looked Sherry up and down for a while before he looked back at Kaiser and asked.

Although the old man was nearly eighty years old, he was still sharp as a tack.

Kaiser sighed exasperatedly, squinting his eyes at Sherry from about twenty meters away and then he shook his head. "No, I don't know her."

"Then why did you send someone to spy on her just now?" The old man looked back at him and smiled.

Kaiser was rendered speechless and he responded with a cold glance at the old man.

When her eyes accidentally met Kaiser's, Sherry quickly looked away and lowered her head.

"What's wrong? Did your dumb boyfriend slap you?"

Cooper strolled in leisurely in front of Sherry, tilting his head to take a closer look at her red swollen face and eyes. With an air of arrogance, he clicked his tongue at her and said, "Did he dump you?"

"Sir, thank you and Mr. Kaiser for your generosity. I have to go now if there is nothing else. I am actually running late for something." Sherry smiled awkwardly and turned around to leave.

After all, she was too embarrassed to face anyone after what had just happened.

"Not so fast, madam! I won't take up too much of your time!"

Unfortunately, before Sherry could go anywhere, Cooper's slovenly voice gripped her.

Stretching out his hand to her, Cooper said, "About that cheque for one million. Could you kindly give it back, please?"

Earlier on, when Cooper and Kaiser were keeping the old man company in the garden area, they saw Sherry and Sean rushing in to the in-patient building, so out of curiosity, they sent someone to find out what had happened.

'Sean is such a low-life! I can't believe he took his girlfriend's money to pay for his bills!' Cooper thought to him disdainfully.

"The one million..." As she looked up at Cooper, Sherry struggled to come up with a response.

After all, she couldn't find one million even at the cost of her life right now. It was impossible!

She took a deep breath to stop herself from shaking and said, "Well, I tried to give it back to Mr. Kaiser, but he refused to take it."

"I've changed my mind now." Suddenly, a deep and calm voice resounded through Sherry's words.

As she followed the sound, Sherry noticed Kaiser walked towards her.

"Mr. Kaiser." After a quick glance, she lowered her head again.

"Give it back to me." Kaiser gritted his teeth furiously, and if looks could kill, Sherry would have been a pile of ash and dust by now. His mirthless voice showed no intention of further negotiation.

"Mr. Kaiser, I..." Sherry raised her head again and looked at Kaiser.

Although, she had just been humiliated by Sean, she didn't feel as bad then as she was right now.

She really wanted to cry!

"Sorry, but I don't have the money." After a quick glance at Kaiser, Sherry lowered her head again and added, "I promise that I will find a way to return the one million to you as soon as possible."

All of a sudden, the sight of her tear-soaked, red eyes, drove a knife through Kaiser's heart.

"How are you going to do that? By lying or standing?" Cooper kept pressuring her, but Kaiser didn't say a word.

If it was yesterday, she would never understand what he meant. But now, she understood it perfectly.

Taking a breath to gather her courage, Sherry raised her head and looked at both men with eyes that were filled with new-found determination. "Mr. Kaiser, I give you my word that I will pay you back the one million."

Although Sherry was in the wrong, she could no longer allow them to continue humiliating her like that. She looked them both in the eye one more time and then walked away.

Sherry showed so much fortitude and resolve, Kaiser couldn't help but soften his fiery eyes as he watched her walk away under the sunset.
