Chapter 7 Breakup

"Sherry? How did it go? Kaiser..."

Sean asked anxiously when he saw Sherry covered in dirt.

"Bastard, behave yourself!"

But before he could finish his words, the police officer pressed his head against the table again.

"Sean!" Sherry rushed over to grab the policeman's hand and she begged him. "He is bleeding from his face. Please, just be gentle."

"Madam, this man started the fight and even attacked one of the police officers on duty. You'd better go home. I don't think it will be possible to bail him out."

"Bullshit! You guys are acting like thugs..."

As Sean indignantly broke out into curses, the police banged his head against the table.

"Ah!"

Sean cried out in pain and the police officer ordered his subordinates, "Lock him up first!"

"Yes, sir!"

"No, please, don't lock him up. He didn't mean it. What do I have to do to get him out of here? Just let me know, I will do my best." Sherry held the police officer's hand and pleaded pitifully.

"Hey, you..."

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

Just as the policeman opened his mouth in anger, his cellphone started vibrating in his pocket.

As he fished it out of his pocket and looked at the screen, he frowned and answered the call.

Sherry couldn't hear what the person on the other end of the phone had said to him, but the police officer didn't look happy.

Right after he hung up the phone reluctantly, he ordered Sean's release.

"You are a lucky dog. Kaiser is dropping all charges. You are free to go."

"So...can we leave now?" Sherry wasn't the only one who was stunned as a look of puzzlement filled Sean's eyes.

"Really? Kaiser dropped all charges?

But a while ago, he didn't want to..."

Although, she couldn't figure out why Kaiser had changed his mind, Sherry was just happy to hear the news.

"Yes, just get out of here!" the policeman shouted impatiently as he removed Sean's handcuffs and set him free.

"Sean, let's go now." Sherry quickly helped him up.

Sean's face was a complete mess, but he managed to stand on his feet and walk out of there as quickly as he could, afraid that Kaiser might change his mind.

"Sherry, how did you get Kaiser to let me go?"

after they got in the car, Sean asked curiously.

"I'm not really sure, to be honest. I just told him that you're not a violent person. You were just in a bad mood because of what's been happening with your family. I begged him to let you do," she said, smiling at him innocently.

"That's it? " Sean was still finding it hard to believe.

Although he didn't know Kaiser personally, he had heard that Kaiser was a cold and ruthless man who hardly ever treated anyone with kindness.

Sherry nodded affirmatively.

In fact, Sherry herself found it hard to believe that Kaiser had agreed to let Sean go away so easily.

Was it because of how sincerely she had pleaded with him? Perhaps, he had other reasons.

"Sherry, have you met Kaiser before?" Sean asked, looking at her with confused eyes.

"Yes." Sherry nodded and said, "I was out celebrating my sister's birthday last night. I went to the club to give her the gift, but when I was leaving, I got hit by Kaiser's car. He was nice enough to take me to the hospital."

"I see!" Sean was excited and he added, "Did Kaiser say anything to you or did he leave you his phone number?"

Sherry shook her head and said, "Sean, how are you feeling right now? I should take you to the hospital."

Sean seemed a little disappointed by her answer, but he didn't say anything. He simply nodded and went to the hospital with her.

Suddenly, Sean received a phone call saying that his mother was in critical condition and she would have to go into surgery immediately.

By the time they arrived at the hospital, Sean's mother had already been taken to the emergency room and no one could tell how she was doing.

"Don't worry, Sean. Your mother is a strong woman. She's going to be all right."

The anxious look on Sean's face broke her heart, but Sherry didn't know what else to do besides comfort him with words.

"Is anyone from the patient's family available?" A nurse walked over with a pile of bills in her hand.

"I'm her son." Sean raised his hand.

"Here are bills for all the medical expenses of your mother for the past two weeks. The total comes up to about one hundred thousand. You'd better clear this payment as soon as possible before it affects your mother's treatment." The nurse handed the list to Sean with a solemn look on her face.

"What...that much?" Sean felt dizzy and light-headed as he stared at the paper but didn't have the courage to take it.

Sherry grabbed the paper from the nurse's hand and smiled at her. "Okay, thank you very much for your help."

"What are you doing? You don't have that kind of money, do you?"

Sean was flustered, as he stared at the thick stack of bills in Sherry's hand, wondering what to do.

"Shouldn't you accept it just because the lack of money?" Sherry asked rhetorically.

Sean shook his head with an aggrieved expression on his face. "Oh, so now you're also going to look down upon me because I don't have any money, right?"

Sherry paused for a moment and then handed the cheque to Sean. "This should help to pay your mother's medical expenses first."

When Sean noticed the figures and the sign on the cheque, he frowned and said, "Did Kaiser give this to you? "

"Yes." Sherry nodded and continued, "It was supposed to pay for my medical bills."

Sean took the cheque from her hand and then he looked Sherry up and down. Apart from some minor scrapes on her hands, Sherry looked perfectly fine. Shaking his head in disbelief, he said, "If it was nothing serious and you're totally fine, why would Kaiser have to bring you to the hospital? And, why would he give you one million as compensation? "

"Yes, you're right! I'm not really sure why, but he seemed very serious at the time," she said.

Sean took a closer look at her and noticed the bruise hidden underneath her turtleneck sweater.

"What's this?" Sean reached out, pulling her sweater collar and then added, "Sherry, why do you have these marks on you?"

Startled, Sherry took two steps back, covering her neck and chest with both hands.

"Sherry, tell me how you got those marks on your body." The look of panic on Sherry's face seemed to have confirmed Sean's suspicion.

"Sean, listen to me..."

"Shut up!" Sean snapped at Sherry before she could even explain, adding, "I've spent so much time and money on you in the past year, chasing after you and flattering you. You even avoided kissing me. All this time, I thought you were an innocent girl, but you turned out to be a whore."

"No, it's not like that. Sean, you..."

Clap!

Before Sherry could utter another word, Sean slapped her, curling his lips at her contemptuously, and said, "Do you think I'm stupid? I don't think the one million was for your medical bills. It was his reward to you for sleeping with him, right?"

Sherry stared at Sean incredulously.

"I should have known! Kaiser isn't the type of man who can be persuaded so easily. No wonder he was willing to drop all charges so easily." Sean looked at her disdainfully and continued, "Tell me if he was the one who pursued you first or the vice versa."

Sherry was too embarrassed to reply, but he took her silence as an affirmative and said, "I see! Of course, considering the power and wealth Kaiser commands, it only makes sense that you would want to sleep him. The answer is obvious!"

As she looked at him in shock, the tears that trickled down her face brought her back to her senses.

Sherry was utterly devastated to know that the man she wanted to give her heart to thought so lowly of her.

—She betrayed him and seduced another man for money.

Sherry smiled bitterly and then in one breath, said, "Sean, I think we should break up!"

"Break up? " Sean's eyebrows furrowed in anger and he added, "Who do you think you are? "

"Sean..."

"You are nothing but lying bitch! Just to be clear, I'm the one who's dumping you!" Before Sherry could finish the rest of her sentence, Sean raised his voice at her. "I can't believe how stupid I was back then! You can go and tell Kaiser that even though he's the one who slept with you, I'm the one who dumped you!"

Sean's behavior was starting to worry Sherry.

"You're a worthless bitch!"

Sean was acting very differently from his usual gentle and considerate self which Sherry found so baffling that she couldn't even describe her own feelings at that moment.

Was it painful? Sad? Or disappointing?

"Yes, you are right. You dumped me. So, Sean, let's just end it here! Bye!"

Right after she said that, Sherry turned on her heel and walked away from him.
