Chapter 8 Did Uncle Moses Kiss You

When Richard was about to say something, Ezra interrupted him, "You're not attending that kindergarten anymore. I will transfer you to another school."

The boy frowned and refused coldly, "No!"

"Richard!" His father suddenly raised his voice and said, "I'm informing you, not asking for your permission."

"I said no! I want to study there! Are you my father? Why don't you ever ask me for my opinion?" Looking at Ezra's grim face, Richard thought of Selina's gentle eyes.

He had always wanted a gentle mother and a father who spoiled him.

Unfortunately, his parents were not that kind. It was one of the reasons why he grew up reserved and unsociable. Ezra did not pay much attention to him. He was always busy.

His father slowly turned his head to look at him and hissed, "Because you don't make the decisions. I do."

Ezra could not believe the shift in his son's attitude. A few hours ago, he hated Selina and Carol like they had somehow wronged him, but now, he was suddenly comfortable with them. Selina must have used some sort of trick to get Richard to like her and her daughter.

That woman and her little brat had no right to befriend his child.

Selina was as cruel and dangerous as a snake and a scorpion. Who knew what kind of awful things she had taught her little girl? She had learned to bewitch people at such a young age.

He would never allow his son to be ensnared by her.

Richard's emotion surged up in an instant. He buried his head between his knees and leaned against the window, "I want to study there! I want to study there! I don't want to go to another kindergarten!"

"Richard!"

This time, Ezra had lost his patience and growled.

"You don't deserve to be my father," the little boy murmured with tears in his eyes.

Ezra clenched his fists, keeping his anger at bay.

A few moments later, they arrived home.

Richard jumped out of the car and slammed the door.

When Viola went out to greet them, she saw Richard first. She reached out to hold his hand, but he pushed her away.

"What's wrong, Richard?"

Viola asked but the little boy kept walking.

As if he had not heard anything, he went upstairs and slammed his bedroom door.

Viola instantly got so angry that her chest heaved. 'That... That child is really unbearable now. He doesn't stick with me anymore and always disobeys me. Just as well. He's not my child after all. He's that bitch Selina's son. He's just as ungrateful as his mother.'

When she turned around, she saw Ezra walking toward her. She immediately changed her stern look into a pitiful one and asked, "What happened with you and Richard, Ezra? Why did he lose his temper all of a sudden? He has never lost his temper before."

"You should educate him well."

After saying that, Ezra walked past her and went upstairs.

She stared at his back and gritted her teeth. Selina was back, and now she was even his secretary. Did he deliberately arrange all of this because he knew from the very beginning that she would return?

'No! That's impossible!

He hates her to his core and never wants to see her again!

He would never force her to be in the same place as he was on purpose! He loves me and only me. He loves me so much that he's willing to risk his life for me. He would never hurt me. Not like this.'

Despite the growing anxiety in her heart, Viola chose to believe that Ezra would rather be with her than get back together with his cheating ex-wife.

In the dining room of Selina and Carol's apartment...

Carol looked at the delicious dishes in front of her with big, excited eyes. She took a deep breath and chirped, "Wow, Uncle Moses! All these food you made look so good! And they smell good, too! I've missed your cooking so much! Thank you!"

Moses smiled, touched the tip of her nose, and said, "You're welcome, sweetie. Go ahead. Dig in and enjoy."

After a few moments of filling her plate with food, she raised her head and asked, "What have you talked about with Richard's father, Uncle Moses? You were in the office for so long."

After thinking for a while, Moses answered, "It's just grown-up talk, dear. Nothing you should worry about."

Hearing this, Selina, who had just entered the dining room, looked at him and said, "You don't need to pay attention to that man anymore. The kids have already apologized to each other. They're friends now."

There was still a trace of sadness on Selina's face when she mentioned Ezra. As soon as she sat at the table, he reached out, held her hand, and squeezed it. But he clearly knew that he was not able to comfort her.

After all this time, she was still badly hurt by what happened between her and her ex-husband.

After dinner and tucking in her little girl, Selina went to see Moses off. At the door, she looked at him as if she had seen through his desire to say something. "What is it?" she asked.

"I heard, Selina.

Ezra purchased SASA Group," Moses started.

She just lowered her head and said nothing.

"Just resign. I'll help you find another job." Moses knew all about her and Ezra and what happened in the past between them. Since they became friends, he had been helping her get back on her feet. She was starting to feel like a dead weight on his shoulders.

She shook her head and answered, "We're over, Moses. It's done. I'm fine now. Stop worrying about me so much, okay? I can handle this. Go home and get some rest."

However, Moses did not seem to want to leave. He looked at her with concern and said, "Selina, we're friends. Friends don't count favors. Don't be afraid of owing me, okay? I just want you and Carol to live a good and peaceful life. And I'm Carol's godfather, remember?"

"I know, I know. You can spoil Carol all you want. I won't refuse it. However... You've already saved my life once. That's more than enough for me. Thank you for taking care of us all these years. I really wouldn't have known what to do without you. I appreciate all of it, Moses. I really do. But I got this. I'm strong enough now to take care of myself and my daughter. Will you just let me?"

She had been very clear with him from the start that she had nothing to give him in return, at least not what he wanted. She did not want to abuse their friendship and rely on him for everything.

Moses finally smiled at her and dipped his chin in acknowledgement. He took her hand and squeezed it and then left.

Selina shut the door and came to check on Carol who was suddenly out of bed. "Mommy! You're back! I want a hug!"

Selina frowned and held her little girl in her arms. "Didn't you just fall asleep? Why are you awake now?"

Carol sniffed her for a long time. Then, she finally pouted and asked, "Did Uncle Moses hug you? Did he kiss you?"

Selina knitted her brows and said with a chuckle, "What are you talking about?"

"Isn't that how couples act in TV dramas? When they part, they kiss and hug each other. Uncle Moses likes Mommy, so it's natural that he kisses and hugs Mommy."

Carol tilted her head at her, looking all puzzled.

The mother could not help laughing out loud. "That's just TV drama, honey. It's not real life. Besides, Mommy and Uncle Moses are just good friends, not a couple."

Holding her face in her hands, Carol asked, "If Mommy and Uncle Moses get together, can I have a little sister? And can we all live together in the same house then?"

Selina shook her head and just smiled. "Baby, Mommy and Uncle Moses can't be together because we're not in love with each other, do you understand?"

"But Uncle Moses likes you."

"And I like him, too, but love is different. Besides, the reason why Uncle Moses is nice to Mommy is that he likes you."

"Well, can I marry Uncle Moses then when I grow up?"

"Sure, sweetie. It's past your bedtime now. Go to sleep."

The little chatterbox could be so unbearable sometimes. After coaxing Carol to sleep, Selina took a deep breath.

She took a shower before going to bed. It was already eleven o'clock in the evening when she came out of the bathroom. She put on a facial mask and then prepared to go to sleep.

But as soon as she sat down on her bed, her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and frowned. She picked up and answered, "Mr. Lu?"

"Come to the AD Club. You have twenty minutes."

"But I'm... I'm off duty."

"I'm not going to say it again, Selina. Get over here right now. And bring the company's information," Ezra growled and then hung up.

Speechless, Selina closed her eyes, silently put down her phone, and thought about her daughter.
