Chapter 2 Giving Birth To A Dead Baby

Suddenly, Viola stood in front of Ezra and desperately grabbed onto his arm. She begged, "No, Ezra. You promised me that you would take good care of Selina. The An family was down and out now. The situation has changed tremendously. If you kick her out now, it will greatly impact your reputation. Let her stay."

Selina did not know what was going on in Viola's mind. She glared at her and said, "Don't pretend to care about me! I don't need your pity! I'm leaving!"

She turned on her heel and walked toward the door, ignoring the pain in her heart and body.

Just as she was about to walk out, Ezra blocked Selina's way. "Not so fast. You can't leave without aborting that bastard you're carrying."

Did she really expect him to let her walk away that easily? How could a man of great fame and prestige like him let his ex-wife give birth to a child of infidelity?

Selina cocked her head to the side and stared at Ezra. Did he not just sever their marital ties? They were over as a married couple. How could he order her to abort her baby? "This is my child, and you're no longer my husband. You don't get to decide my baby's fate."

"Get this bitch out of here!" Ezra bellowed at his guards.

"No!" Standing in front of her, Viola shook her head with tears in her eyes. Her acting was starting to make Selina feel nauseated. "I'm also pregnant with your child, Ezra. Please don't murder a child now, even though we're not sure who its father is. Whether it's your baby or not, let's just let her keep the child. After all, it is a life. We, the Lu family, have the financial means to support it anyway."

Confused, Ezra looked at Viola and said, "You are too kind, Viola. This woman will make trouble sooner or later, and the bastard in her belly can't be kept. I'm just trying to look out for us."

Viola sobbed in a low voice and threw herself into Ezra's arms. "It was through the mercy of God that I got to see you again. It was because of that that I promised to be a tolerant person. I just want us to be together again, and if we can do that without needlessly hurting anyone, then let's do it, okay?"

"Okay."

Ezra seemed to be under Viola's spell. He listened to whatever she said.

He fixed his gaze on Selina and called, "Get this woman out of my face! She's not allowed out of the attic without my permission!"

Staring at Viola, Selina got lost in thought. She was doing this on purpose. She wanted her trapped here under Ezra's roof with her baby. What on earth was she planning?

She could not be fooled by Viola again. As Ezra's men came in to take her away, Selina shook her head and refused, "No! Stay away from me! Don't touch me! If anyone dares to go near me, I will kill myself! I know how precious your reputation is to you, Ezra. Do you want everyone to hear that someone in the Lu family committed suicide?"

Ezra's face darkened. He said in a cold voice, "What are you guys waiting for? Take her away now!"

Two of Ezra's men rushed forward directly. Before Selina could make a run for it, they were already holding her down and tying her hands behind her back. "Please cooperate with us, Mrs. Lu. This doesn't have to be difficult."

Bang!

Next thing she knew, she was in the dark, dusty attic of the Lu family house. Its heavy door loomed over her like a hulking warden, taking away all the light and joy in her life. From then on, she knew nothing but endless, tormenting solitude.

Time went by fast. Ten months passed in the blink of an eye.

"Hurry up! Mrs. Lu is about to give birth!"

"The baby is too big. A normal delivery won't cut it. She has to have a cesarean section!"

Standing quietly in front of her bed, Viola looked at Selina who used to be so smug and arrogant back in the day. Her blood boiled with glee at the sight of her agony. She leaned over to her and smirked, "Does it hurt, Selina? Is it painful?"

Lying on the bed, Selina was out of breath and had tears streaming down her face. "What the hell are you planning to do, Viola? Why are you doing this? You're pregnant, too! Why are you letting me suffer? Why?"

Selina had done nothing but treat Viola well. She had loved her like a sister, stood up for her in everything, and guarded her back. But what did she get in return?

The bitch set her up!

Viola flashed her a crooked smile and said, "Why? Don't you know? Oh, Selina. After all these years, you're still pretending. You're still pretending to be the good person between us when the truth is, you've treated me like your little pet dog. You still tell yourself that you're a good friend to me when all you've done is make me look like an invalid who can't stand up for herself. When I met Ezra, I finally found someone who valued me for me, not for what I have. But you took him away from me, too. You even married him!"

"What? I didn't! I have never thought of taking your man away from you! I will die before I betray you like that!" Selina indeed had a secret crush on Ezra for ten years.

But she knew very well that Ezra and Viola really liked each other.

She accepted that with all her heart and chose to keep her distance. Her friendship with Viola was more important to her than ending up with Ezra.

"You will die before you betray me? Then why did you marry him? I was dying, Selina, and you still chose to marry him in my wedding dress! You forced him to marry you! You bitch! I hate you! I hate you for making my life a living hell!" At this moment, Viola pounced and pinched her neck.

As it got more and more difficult for her to breathe, Selina murmured, "Kill me. Just kill me right here and now, Viola. Otherwise, I will come back one day and exact my vengeance. Do you really think that Ezra will never find out the kind of person you truly are?"

Stimulated by her words, Viola exerted more force.

Her throat was completely blocked off now, and she was starting to feel lightheaded from the lack of oxygen. But she fought to keep her eyes open and fixed on Viola. If she were to die in her hands today, she would make her remember the look in her eyes and make sure that that look gave her nightmares for the rest of her sorry little life.

After a few heartbeats, Viola abruptly released her grip on Selina's neck. She laughed in a low, menacing voice and said, "Kill you? That's too easy, and I don't want to do that just yet. I want you to see how your child dies in my hands."

Actually, that was the cruelest part of Viola's plan.

It was indeed Selina and Ezra's child, but no one would ever believe it. The child would grow up and be despised as a bastard.

Selina struggled to prop her upper body up. She reached out to grab onto her, but Viola mercilessly pushed her down on the bed.

Viola stood over Selina and ordered the medical staff in a cold voice, "Give her an oxytocic injection! She has to have a normal delivery! I don't care whether the child survives or not! Just make sure that she does!"

"Viola... You will die a horrible death," Selina threatened weakly.

Viola ignored her and watched as the medical staff came through with the injection she ordered.

Then, she waited and basked in her ex-best friend's pained cries.

"It's done. The baby's out. But... Wait... It's not moving."

Taking the child in her arms, Viola frowned and murmured, "It's a boy. A bastard. Maybe he was aware of it and that's why he ended his life in your womb. Would you like to have a look, Selina?"

Exhausted, Selina could only stretch out her arm toward her baby. "My child..." she called.

"Beg me! If you beg me, I will show you your dead baby!" Viola sneered.

Selina clutched the sheets tightly and fixed her hateful eyes on the woman she thought was her friend. There was endless hatred in her heart, too.

Then, Viola set her baby on the bed by her feet and left.

A few moments later, Ezra stepped in.

He stood quietly by her bedside and stared at the child by her feet.

The child's whole body was black. He must have died in an abnormal way.

With difficulty, Selina held out her hand. She did not believe that it was her child.

With an indifferent look on his face, Ezra picked up the baby and handed him over to her. He said, "Look at him. Your and your lover's child is dead. This is your retribution, Selina. Your hands are stained with this innocent child's blood. He just suffered what you should have suffered."

Holding the cold child in her arms, Selina started sobbing quietly and shaking her head. She could not accept it. How could this be?

This was impossible!

This was not her child! This was not her baby!
