Chapter 9 Because Of A Certain Person

As he stared at her, Reid slowly muttered, "I came back ahead of time because of a certain someone."

"A certain someone? Who are you talking about?"

But Reid didn't continue to talk about it. Instead, he smiled and changed the subject. "Let's not talk about the past, and let's focus on the present. Kira, how have you been all these years? Did you ever have a boyfriend?"

His tone was nonchalant, just like how someone spoke to an old friend.

Shrugging helplessly, Kira answered, "Not too bad. I'm too busy to even think about having a relationship."

Otherwise, her mother wouldn't have forced her to go on numerous blind dates.

"Well, I've also been really busy, so I never had a girlfriend neither, let alone getting married in secret," he responded.

"Eh?" Kira was perplexed by Reid's words.

Reid grinned. He was just answering the question she raised in the cafe yesterday.

He stood up and pulled her to her feet while she was still confused.

"Let's go. We haven't seen each other for years, so we should have a lunch together, don't you think so, too?"

"But...I'm not off-duty yet," Kira responded.

With a sly smile on his face, he turned around and said to her, "It's not a big deal. I'll tell your general manager that we're just discussing about work."

Before Kira had the chance to answer, she dragged her out of the meeting room.

When she finally got ahold of herself, she realized that she was in Reid's car. After he closed the door, the limited edition Rolls-Royce drove out of the JY Advertising Company's parking lot.

Now that they were in the car, Kira couldn't escape. She just sighed and asked, "Mr. Shen, were are you taking me?"

"I've already told you to stop calling me Mr. Shen, I'm not a stranger," Reid said, ignoring her question.

Left with no choice, Kira changed her manner of speaking and repeated her question. "Reid, where are we going?"

"Since we're talking about business, the LH Hotel should do."

She was rendered speechless by his answer. With nothing to say, Kira looked out the window and stared at the passing scenery.

It had been five years since she last saw Reid. At the back of her mind, she felt a strange urge to stay away from him after this project.

She had been staring outside the window, so she was oblivious to the fact that Reid was staring at her from his peripheral vision, and his gaze gradually softened.

Soon, the car arrived at the LH Hotel.

This hotel chain was a subsidiary of Shen Group. It had more than one thousand branches all over the country.

Reid led Kira inside.

They went to the dining room first and sat down. Reid directly ordered several dishes from the waiter without even glancing at the menu.

After the waiter left, Kira smirked and said, "Reid, it looks like you're familiar with this place. Do you come here often?"

As the CEO of a successful company, she didn't think that Reid had the time to memorize the menu of the hotel, so she just asked if he frequented this place.

He chuckled and answered, "Yes, I do, because I live in a presidential suite of this hotel."

"What? You live here? Don't you have a house?" Kira asked in surprise.

"This hotel is closer to the Shen Group's building. I usually stay here when I work late at night," he responded.

"Oh, I see." Kira hardly paid attention to the Shen Group these years, so she never knew that this hotel was close to the company's headquarters.

"Oh, by the way, I've got some good news for you. Your room is right across mine," Reid added.

Kira was drinking water when she heard him.

She was so surprised by what he said that her face turned red and she got choked by the water.

Just then, Reid stood up. He walked over and patted her on the back until she felt better.

"Reid, you're joking, right?" she asked.

Raising his eyebrows, Reid answer, "Do you think I'm kidding? Kira, you know I don't like to make jokes."

After their dinner, the phrase "your room is right across mine" kept resounding in Kira's mind all day long!

For the duration of the day, Reid toured her to every part of the hotel, including the entertainment and leisure areas, such as the garden, the swimming pool, and so on.

But for the entire day, the only thing that was on her mind was that she was going to live right across Reid.

It wasn't until dinner that Reid finally sent Kira back.

He didn't even ask where she lived, but he still managed to send her home. She must've been quite muddled by the news today. Otherwise, she would've found it strange.

When she got out of the car, it was already dark outside.

Kira bent over next to the driver's window and smiled at Reid. "Thank you very much, Reid. You can go home now. Be careful on your way back."

Sitting in the car, he nodded and said, "Okay, go upstairs. I'll leave once you're upstairs."

Kira refused several times, but he kept insisting. So, she had no choice but to go upstairs.

But after a couple of steps, she suddenly remembered what happened last night on the stairs.

Remembering the kiss in the dark scared her again.

After a moment of hesitation, she gritted her teeth and walked towards Reid. "Reid, would you like to go upstairs and have a cup of tea before you leave?"

He looked at her and said without reluctance, "Sure."

At last, Kira breathed a sigh of relief. After what transpired last night, she the sight of the stairs horrified her.

When they got to the corner of the second floor, Reid saw that Kira had quickened her pace. He watched her walk and smiled in silence.

This place was where he kissed her yesterday.

After opening the door, Kira went in and turned the lights on. "Come in, Reid."

Reid glanced at the bite mark on her delicate neck and entered.

When he came in, Kira closed the door behind him. But when she turned around, he pushed her against the door. He caressed her cheeks and confined her with his chest.

Staring at him in surprise, Kira stammered, "Reid, you..."

His dark eyes narrowed as he raised her chin with his slender fingers. In a husky voice, he said, "Kira, don't you know what it means when you invite a man to your home?"

The way he said those words was so seductive.

With widened eyes, Kira swallowed her own saliva and said, "Reid, please don't get me wrong! I just wanted to invite you for a cup of tea!"

He cackled. "Is that so? That's not what I think though."

As he spoke, his handsome face was inching closer to Kira. She could feel his warm, masculine breath on her face.

She was so frightened she shut her eyes tightly and clenched her fists.
