Chapter 10 The Gossip About Reid

With her eyes closed, Kira felt uneasy. Her senses told her that Reid was getting closer and closer to her.

From this distance, she could smell the intoxicating scent on his skin, a mixture of cologne and the faint smell of tobacco.

She was so nervous that her mouth went dry, and her lips parted lightly. While she was still frozen, not knowing what to do, Reid chuckled.

He suddenly pulled back and put some distance between them again. Then, he pinched the tip of her nose with his right hand, and said softly, "Open your eyes. I'm just kidding. Look at you, you're so scared! How did you have the guts to kiss me in front of the whole university back then?"

As soon as Kira opened her eyes, she saw the teasing grin on his face. It was really embarrassing.

After hesitating for a long time, she managed to say, "Reid, I'm really sorry about that. There was someone who really pissed me off then, and I just wanted to get revenge."

Back then, Nicole had warned her again and again in public to stay away from Vernon. It had been a humiliating experience.

Connie had kept telling Kira that if she were her, she would find a really good-looking man and dangle him in front of Nicole. Then, she would tell Nicole that she didn't care about Vernon anymore because she had found a better man than him.

To Kira, this seemed like the perfect revenge, so she had done as Connie said.

The really good-looking man that she had found was none other than Reid, who was an innocent passer-by. She had kissed him without saying a word in front of the whole university.

Reid's face darkened for a moment. He pursed his lips and said, "You've already apologized for that many times. It's okay. I didn't take it seriously anyway."

Kira stayed quiet. She didn't know why, but she sensed an undercurrent of anger in his words.

But before she could ask him about it, Reid withdrew his hand from the door and smiled. "I won't stay for tea this time. I have something else to do, so I'll go back first. Get ready tonight, and I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

"Pick me up? But why?" Kira asked blankly.

"To check in the hotel, of course."

It was not until then that Kira came to her senses. She immediately shook her head and said, "I know you are very busy, so you don't have to pick me up. I can go by myself, really!"

But Reid just smiled, opened the door, and stepped out. Before he closed the door for her, he said lightly, "Go to bed early. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning. Good night."

Then he left, unaware of the waves that his behavior had stirred in Kira's heart.

Looking at the door, Kira gritted her teeth in resentment.

Even now, Reid acted according to his own will, completely ignoring the feelings of others. He did whatever he wanted regardless of the effects it had on other people.

Back in university, she had thought that she and Reid were at least friends, but he hadn't so much as said a word to her before going to D City.

She had only heard about his departure from others.

Five years ago, he had left completely without a trace, as if he had never appeared in her life at all.

Kira lost herself in her memories of university life. She didn't come back to reality until her phone rang.

It was a call from Connie.

"Kira, remember what I said last time? I was right about Reid. If you didn't believe it, you should definitely believe it now," Connie said excitedly.

Kira frowned in confusion. "Connie, what are you talking about?"

"You haven't checked our university forum, have you? Go and check it now!"

Kira reluctantly trudged to the living room, took the tablet, and logged into the university forum. When she saw the top post, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped in disbelief.

Judging by the silence, Connie guessed that Kira must have seen it, so she continued with a smug smile, "What do you say now, Kira? It's just like I told you. Reid loves that playboy, Lyle."

The top post had been submitted by an anonymous user. They claimed that Reid, the CEO of the Shen Group, liked his childhood friend, Lyle.

There was also a picture attached to the post. Although the picture was a little blurry, it was clear enough for Kira to recognize Reid.

While she was lost in thought, Connie continued, "Maybe it was all for the sake of keeping up appearances, you know? Maybe Lyle is just pretending to be a playboy.

But when you were in the student union, you had contact with both Reid and Lyle, right? Did you notice anything about them?"

Kira quietly enlarged the photo. When she saw how close the two people in the photo looked, a sense of loss gripped her heart.

She didn't know where this feeling had come from.

She put down the tablet and, as if she hadn't heard Connie at all, said, "I met Reid today."

"What? How? That's so sudden!" Connie said.

A City was neither big nor small. How could two people who hadn't seen each other for five years meet all of a sudden?

Kira shrugged. "We just met by chance. He is now a major customer of my company. He is going to shoot an advertisement for the LH Hotel under the Shen Group, so he came to my company."

"What a coincidence! JY Advertising Company is not that famous in A City. Why did Reid approach you guys?" Connie asked in confusion.

Kira sighed. "Who knows, maybe that's fate," she said casually.

"I don't know. But Kira, I have good news for you," Connie said gleefully.

After a pause, she continued, "Reid's grandfather is seriously ill, so the Shen family has been putting a lot of pressure on him to get married. I heard that he has been going on blind dates recently. I guess he will listen to his family and marry a woman."

Kira raised her eyebrows in confusion. "So? What does that have to do with me?"

"It has everything to do with you! Don't you see, Kira?" Connie asked excitedly.

Kira was speechless. "See what? What am I supposed to be seeing?"

"Didn't you say that you wanted to find someone who didn't want to get married, so that you two could help each other? Now your wish came true! If you talk to Reid about it, I'm sure he will agree to be in a fake marriage with you!"

Connie explained. She had a feeling that Reid was eager to see Kira come to him.

It was not until now that Kira remembered her wish, and she fell silent. Her heart was restless as she thought about it.
