Chapter 5 A Kiss In The Dark

Reid looked at the building.

After Kira arrived at her apartment, she switched on the lights. He could see a slender figure moving behind the curtain.

Kira put the groceries she had bought into the fridge and brought out some vegetables and meat. She had a sudden craving for noodles.

Grabbing a bite between the chopsticks, she placed it into her mouth gingerly.

Her delicate face was filled with satisfaction on the very first bite. The noodles were delicious.

Something stirred in her mind and she looked at her phone, unsure whether to turn it off or not.

It was certain that her mother was going to call her soon.

But after hesitating for a while, she couldn't find the courage to turn it off. She was afraid that if her mother couldn't get through to her, she would fly in all the way from C City to get even.

While she was lost in her fancies and conjectures, she recalled Connie's words once more.

Reid's name suffocated her instantly.

She scratched her soft hair irritably and murmured, "It's all because of Vernon and Nicole. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have been stupid enough to kiss Reid!"

She could recall Reid, the man always with a cigarette between his lips and a casual smile.

"Damn it! Why am I thinking of these old memories again? Forget it! Forget it! It's all over now!"

Kira slapped her own head heavily. "Don't think about it anymore. Whether it was Nicole, Vernon, or Reid, we're never going to meet again. It's over now!"

In her efforts to lose her chaotic thoughts, she lost her appetite as well.

She went to the kitchen to pour the remaining half of the noodles into the bin. The bin was overflowing so she sorted it out and took it downstairs.

Her apartment was in an ordinary neighborhood and she had rented it herself.

Initially, she had wanted to buy a two-bedroom apartment in A City, but her mother, Myla, had refused to live here. Therefore, she had bought an apartment for her in C City.

Kira's own apartment was in a simple building with no elevator, so she had to take the staircase. The trash can was placed at the gate of the community, which was a five-minute walk away.

As she exited the building, she discovered that it was completely dark outside.

She walked towards the trash can, murmuring, "It's all Mom's fault. She forced me on these blind dates, and I had to take an afternoon off. There goes my monthly bonus!"

Reid had been sitting in his car, puffing on one cigarette after another. It was hard to tell what he was thinking since his eyes were indifferent.

When Kira walked outside, he finally reacted. He took a deep drag on the cigarette and blew it out.

His cold and sharp eyes were focused on her back and there was a strange smile on his face. Something that looked like possessiveness appeared in his eyes.

He picked up his phone and dialed a number. "Cut off the electricity for twenty minutes in the Sunshine Community. Yes, do it right now!"

By the time he put down his phone, Kira had thrown the trash away and was now walking back.

She looked up at the sky. There was not a star in sight. The forecast had said it was going to rain and it appeared to be right.

She shook her head and walked inside.

When she stepped on the stairs, she heard the slight tap of someone's footsteps overlapping with hers. She wasn't sure if they were real or not.

Each time she turned around to watch, there was no one there.

She touched the back of her head in confusion and wondered if she was being oversensitive.

Had she become neurotic because of the constant barrage of blind dates?

She sighed and kept walking.

It was not until then that she realized how frightening the stairs were.

There were no windows anywhere. If the lights were to go off for some reason, she wouldn't even be able to see her own fingers. It was terrifying to even imagine.

As soon as the thought flashed through her mind, the lights actually did go off!

Kira's eyes darkened and she cursed in shock, "What the...? I just had to think of it, didn't I?"

She was scared and reached for her phone to turn on the flashlight.

However, before she could do so, a huge hand grabbed her slender arm and pushed her into the wall.

"Who... Mmm..."

She tried to ask subconsciously. But before she could finish her words, someone blocked her mouth fiercely.

A bitter smell of nicotine filled her nose as the stranger forcefully pried open her mouth. She could tell that it was a man.

The one-sided passion of the kiss was choking her and she felt like she was drowning.

It was intensely dark, and she was terrified. She wanted to scream but the man's vicious and unwelcome lips were blocking her completely. She could only let out a groan.

She was so scared that she tried to pound him hard.

However, the molester was holding one of her arms, and the other one wasn't strong enough. Still, she tried her best to hit him a few times, but he grabbed the other hand as well.

He then threw them above her head and pushed her further into the wall.

Kira was so anxious that tears began to stream down her cheeks. The kiss became slightly gentle and she thought he would let her go.

But then, she felt a sharp pain in her neck and cried out.

The molester had suddenly bitten her hard.

She now felt like her life was threatened and tried to negotiate.

Trembling slightly, she said, "Sir, please let me go. Please, I can give you money. Just let me go and I'll give you everything I have. I promise I won't call the police."

The molester paused when he heard this. Kira felt like he was hesitating.

"Sir, I have two hundred thousand in my account and that is all I have. If you want some more, I can ask my friends. Just let me go. Please."

Kira gave a kind of sob as she said the words.

But the molester still didn't move. He remained silent and then bent over for one final kiss.

After that, she felt him loosen his grip, and his footsteps then faded away.

Whoever the molester was, he had left just like that. Did he have a change of heart?

After the attacker had left, Kira collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath in shock.

It was not until the lights came on suddenly that she opened her eyes. She was feeling weak.

She staggered against the wall and rushed into her apartment, closing it behind her with a bang.

With her back against the door, Kira fell to the floor once again, as if all the strength inside her had vanished completely.
