Chapter 8 When Will You Get Married

Shirley took back her backpack from the club's reception while Aron accompanied her. When they both arrived at the underground parking lot, she saw Isaac sitting inside his Rolls-Royce like he had been waiting there for a long time.

Aron paced towards the car and opened the door for Shirley. For a second, she hesitated to get inside. After all, things had gotten quite awkward between them earlier on. However, Isaac was chafing with impatience and he didn't want to waste any more time there.

"What are you waiting for? Do you want to wait for those reporters to come back?"

His voice startled Shirley, who jumped into the car and covered her face with her backpack, worried of being photographed by the reporters.

As the car sped along toward the Su family residence, Shirley stole quick glances at the man sitting next to her. Isaac slept the whole way down, or at least sat in the back seat with his eyes closed, while Shirley occasionally turned around to see if there were reporters following them. Aron stifled a chuckle, amused by her restless fidgeting. He tried to calm her down and said, "Miss Su, don't worry. No one can see us from the outside."

Embarrassed, Shirley eventually put her backpack down, pretending as though she wasn't worried at all.

After a while, she slowly relaxed her back and looked out the window. When she saw Isaac looking at her from the rearview mirror, her cheeks blushed red and she immediately looked away to hide her embarrassment. 'When did he wake up?' she thought.

When they reached the Su family's residence, Shirley trailed behind Isaac nervously. Walking with her bowed head, Shirley accidentally bumped into Isaac when he stopped at the front door all of a sudden. "Ouch..." Shirley rubbed her forehead, trying to adjust her bearings and she wondered why the man had stopped walking.

"Do you always walk with your eyes closed?" Isaac turned around, glaring at her with annoyance.

"I am sorry!" Shirley was stung by his words and pouted.

"Don't say anything silly in front of my grandmother. On second thought, just let me do the talking." Isaac tried to mask his anguish with solemn seriousness before walking in.

As soon as he set foot inside the living room, Isaac was welcomed by objects flying straight towards him. Luckily, he was able to dodge. Frightened, Shirley took a few steps back. Shirley was very disappointed. She wanted to see him get hit by at least one of the flying objects.

Isaac was still far from being safe as Alannah followed up on her attack with an uproarious voice that shook the entire mansion. "You brat, what have you done? How could you do that to Shirley? Today, I am going to teach you a lesson you won't ever forget!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Alannah picked up a wooden stick and struck Isaac. This time, however, he stayed put, causing Shirley to think that perhaps he didn't try to stop her because she was his grandmother. And yet the old lady showed no intentions of stopping.

Shirley felt the urge to stop Alannah as she rushed to Isaac's rescue and implored, "Mrs. Su, please don't hit him anymore. I'm fine."

"Oh my sweet child, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I should have known better than to raise a bully!" Alannah started crying when she saw Shirley. Anyone who didn't know what was going on could have easily thought that Shirley was the one bullying this old woman.

"No, Mrs. Su. It's not like that. Isaac didn't bully me." Shirley's heart was in a mess the moment she saw Alannah break down in tears.

Suddenly, Alannah stopped crying and grinned at her. "So, you consented?"

"Yes. Wait...What? No! I mean..." The sudden change in Alannah's tone took Shirley by surprise.

Isaac was at a loss for words and he shook his head, realizing that his grandmother was playing tricks again. How could a woman of her age still be so childish? Nevertheless, he was powerless against his grandmother.

"Mrs. Su, you've got it all wrong. We just... Anyway, it's not what you think it is. It was just an accident. Yes! It was an accident." Shirley couldn't find the words to explain herself.

"Okay! I see! I must have misunderstood you two then. So, when are you getting married?"

"What?"

"What?" Shirley and Isaac had a stunned expression on their faces.

"Wow! You two seem to have a tacit understanding." Alannah snickered, just barely withholding it from a full laughter.
