Chapter 9 Black Out

As Ryan spoke, he shoved the glass into Megan's empty hand.

Megan gulped after seeing the strong liquor in her hand, but before she could say anything to refuse him, he took away the other glass in her hand.

"Well..." Only then did Megan realize that she had jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

"Mr. Yan, she's new here. I'm afraid that drink is really too strong for her,"

the manager said tentatively. He had no choice but to speak up for Megan. After all, he didn't want her to get too drunk and say something that she shouldn't.

"I don't want to hear it." Thomas turned to the bar manager sharply. "Ryan has done her the honor of inviting her to drink with him. What do you mean? She doesn't want to drink the glass that Ryan has offered her?"

"No, no, that's not what I meant," the manager said hastily, shaking his head. Then, he turned to Megan and said, "Coco, Mr. Yan has offered you the glass. Just drink it!"

Seeing the manager's expression, Megan knew that this Ryan was someone that they couldn't afford to offend. Besides, the rest of the men in the room would not let her go easily. She had no way to escape. And if she kept delaying drinking this glass of alcohol, everyone's patience would grow thin. At that time, she might have to suffer more.

Being forced into a corner like this, Megan really wanted to pour the glass of liquor at Ryan's face. But when she looked up and met his gaze, she felt an inexplicable chill run down her spine. She didn't even have the courage to look into his intimidating eyes.

At last, Megan had no choice but to yield to reality. She raised her head slightly, looking at Ryan from under her hooded eyelids, and then raised her index finger. "Just one glass."

The corners of Ryan's lips curved up into a slight smile. He asked curiously, "Why did you choose to work here if you can't drink?"

"I didn't..."

"Coco, don't waste time. Propose a toast to Mr. Yan now!" Seeing that Megan was about to tell the truth that she didn't work here, the manager immediately interrupted her and shot her a warning glance.

Receiving the manager's warning look, Megan helplessly relented. "Okay, I'll drink it, but only one glass."

"Sure." Thomas, who was standing nearby, clapped his hands and said, "Since you are new here, we won't make things difficult for you. If you can only drink one glass, that's fine. Go ahead!"

Hearing how readily Thomas agreed with her, Megan felt that something was wrong. However, she thought that the sooner she finished this glass of alcohol, the sooner she could leave this room. Besides, she believed that she wouldn't get drunk so soon.

She feared that there might be a trap awaiting her, but she was even more afraid that they would go back on their words. But since she was stuck in between a rock and a hard place, she silently plucked up her courage and quickly raised her glass to Ryan. "Mr. Yan, I'd like to propose a toast to you."

As soon as she finished her words, Megan raised her head and downed the glass. The harsh liquid burned her throat and sent fumes all the way to her nose, causing tears to roll in her eyes.

Even though it was difficult to drink it, she didn't stop in the middle, because she knew that once she stopped, it would be more difficult for her to finish it. Her best bet was to just drink it all in one gulp.

When she was done,

Megan slammed the glass on the table with a crisp sound.

"I'm done. Can I leave now?"

After saying that, Megan stood up.

But she began to feel dizzy. As soon as she took a step forward, the room in front of her started to spin. When she took the next two steps, she felt her body become lighter, as if she was floating. Her vision slowly darkened, and then she blacked out.
