Chapter 5 Eighteen Years Old

When Cathy was lost in thought, the door to the ward flew open.

One of

Francis' subordinates walked in with a woman.

Cathy looked at Francis in confusion. 'What does he want now?'

"Catherine, you are awake! Thank God, you are alive. It's a miracle!"

The woman cried and swept Cathy into a tight embrace, almost squeezing the life out of her.

Cathy was soon breathless.

"Let go of me! I can't breathe." Hearing Cathy's pleas, the woman instantly let go of her.

Cathy broke into a fit of cough.

"Who are you?" she demanded, rubbing her chest.

"What?" A pained expression crossed the woman's face. "Catherine, what's wrong with you? How could you not know me?"

Cathy's heart flipped. 'How did I forget that I'm Catherine now?'

A wave of panic consumed her. She felt that someone was watching her with sharp eyes.

"I..." Cathy looked up and saw that the woman was staring at her with expectant eyes.

A sudden idea occurred to Cathy. "I'm sorry. I don't remember anything. Everything seems strange to me."

Cathy felt that this was the only way to deal with the problem.

If she made everyone believe that she had lost her memories, then no one would question her for not recognizing the people who knew Catherine.

That was what usually happened in novels when the protagonists got trapped in unexpected circumstances.

Cathy was glad that she didn't travel back in time to the complicated feudal era.

Otherwise, her life would have been more miserable than this.

The woman's words snapped Cathy out of her reverie.

"What? Don't you remember anything? Have you lost your memories?" The woman looked dumbfounded.

Cathy's eyes lit up. "Yes, I lost my memories."

"Oh, no!" The woman looked devastated. "Do you remember your name?"

"Well, Catherine Lu."

"You..."

"That's what you just called me."

"Do you remember your age?"

"Umm...eighteen!"

"No, come on. You're not that young. You are almost twenty-four years old! Anyway, what's your favorite thing in the world?"

Cathy pursed her lips and thought for a moment before answering, "I love to party, eat, and drink. I love to have fun."

"No! You like Francis more than anything in the world."

Cathy burst into laughter. The woman's eyes widened. She glanced at Francis before turning to look at Cathy.

"Catherine, you really have lost your memories. You poor thing! What are you going to do now?"

The woman's sorrow was replaced with anger. She stood up and glared at Francis.

"Is this what you call taking care of Catherine? How the hell did she end up losing her memories?"

Cathy looked at the woman in awe. Of all the people she had met after the accident, the woman was the only person who dared to speak against Francis.

"She drove her car off the cliff. What the hell was I supposed to do?" The man's answer left Cathy speechless.

She finally understood that Catherine was the one whose car hit her and ran her off the cliff.

Cathy opened her mouth to retort, but the woman spoke again.

"This is all your fault.

If you hadn't brought that whore to the party to annoy Catherine, the poor woman wouldn't have made this decision. Catherine loves you, Francis. You are the most important person in her life. Why are you hurting her over and over again?

"Enough!" Francis snapped coldly; his handsome face reddened with rage.

Cathy looked at Francis with disdain. 'Looks like the guy is a player. No wonder Catherine wanted to leave him.

'Oh God! What do I do now?'

Francis caught Cathy staring at him and shot a cold glance at her.

The corners of Cathy's mouth twitched. She looked straight into his eyes and slowly clamped her ears with her hands.

"I didn't hear anything..."

Her sudden move surprised Francis. The anger on his face vanished in an instant.

An evil smile crept on his face. "Take Rebecca out!"

"I won't leave. I want to stay with Catherine!" Rebecca Han protested.

"Rebecca, go back now!" ordered Francis.

Rebecca trembled with fear. She could sense her cousin's anger. Francis' temper always frightened everyone; Rebecca was no exception.

However, she couldn't leave her friend in the hands of an evil man.

Cathy had just recovered after the accident, and Rebecca wanted to be there for her. Before Rebecca could object, Francis' subordinates dragged her away.

"How dare these filthy men touch me? Get off me! I must tell my dear..."

The door slammed with a loud bang, muffling Rebecca's screams.

Cathy stared at the door in shock. 'What the hell were these two talking about?'

Before she could comprehend what was going on, strong hands lifted her off the bed. Cathy yelped in shock.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"Shut up!" Francis growled and dragged Cathy out of the ward mercilessly.

Anger and hatred surged through her veins. Her bare feet grated against the cold floor as Francis hauled her out of the hospital.

Everyone at the hospital eyed the couple with curiosity, but no one came to Cathy's rescue.

They didn't dare to offend Francis.

Cathy didn't know how long they had been walking. Sweat trickled down her back; she felt dizzy. Just when her feet gave away, Francis angrily thrust her into the car.

Cathy grabbed the door handle, hoping to escape. But the car locked with a click; she understood that there was no way out.

Panic rose in her heart. She banged the window and screamed, "Help! Help! Someone help!" Tears streamed down her cheeks. Francis' presence frightened her; she felt that her end was near.

Cathy closed her eyes and silently prayed for someone to save her.

Unfortunately, the car started with a rumble and sped across an unfamiliar path.

Cathy grabbed Francis's shirt and cried. "Hey, where are you taking me? Look, I'm not, your wife, Catherine. You have no right to control me. Stop the car. I want to go home. No, no. Turn around. I want to go back to the hospital."

She couldn't endure the torture anymore. Her life had been miserable ever since she regained consciousness. She couldn't be with Francis for even a second. She had to find a doctor and return to her body.

Francis shoved her hand away and sized her up with disgust.

"Catherine Lu, shut up. Don't you dare play your tricks on me! You can fool others, but not me. I know that you're pretending to have lost your memories, but your stupid plans won't work with me."

Cathy's shoulders slumped in dejection. 'God! How do I make this man understand that I'm not his wife?'

Francis slammed the brakes, and the car jerked to a halt in front of an office building.

He opened the door, stepped out of the car, and dragged Cathy into the building.

Francis' men followed them closely.

Cathy's racing heart gradually calmed down. She was glad that the man didn't kidnap her to a deserted place. 'This place looks crowded, so I don't think he's going to kill me.

Why the hell is he dragging me like this? Doesn't he know how to treat a woman?' When she looked up, she saw a law firm-Ronald Law Firm.

Cathy knitted her brows. She wondered why Francis brought her here.

Francis pushed the door open and let go of Cathy's hand.

He pulled a chair and sat on it, crossing one leg over the other.

Cathy stood still and eyed Francis with confusion. She didn't know what he wanted from her.

"Hello, Mr. Mu. What brings you here?" a pleasant male voice asked.

Cathy snapped out of her thoughts. She realized that they were at a law firm that belonged to the man who greeted Francis.

She turned around and saw a handsome man, in his thirties, sitting at his table.

Cathy arched an eyebrow in appreciation. The man looked incredibly handsome. Although he wasn't as suave and masculine as Francis, he still looked charming.

"Catherine, I heard you were in the hospital. What are you doing here?" Ronald Xu asked.

'Does he know me?' Just when Cathy wondered what to say, Francis spoke.

"I haven't come here to chat with you. Are the things that I asked you to prepare ready?"

Ronald stood up.

He walked towards Cathy and did something beyond her expectation.
