Chapter 4 Catherine Lu

The doctor nodded and bowed to

Francis before turning around and leaving.

Panic wracked Cathy's nerves. She sat up on the bed and grasped the doctor's arm.

"Doctor, I feel dizzy." She held her temples, pretending to be sick. "My stomach is churning. I want to puke."

The doctor broke into a cold sweat. He stopped and turned to look at Cathy.

"Mrs. Mu, I thought you said you were fine. You looked normal just now."

Cathy shook her head fiercely. "I was fine. But I feel nauseous now. My head is spinning. Am I going to die?"

She secretly pinched the inside of her thigh and her eyes instantly prickled with tears.

"Who am I? Why am I here? Are these people going to hurt me? Doctor, please call the police. I'm scared. Doctor, please help me."

Cathy clutched her chest with one hand and cried bitterly. She didn't want to go home with Francis, so she tried her best to buy more time in figuring out a way.

The doctor wiped the sweat on his forehead and looked at Francis nervously.

"Mr. Mu..."

Francis cast a cold glance at him and raised his hand, gesturing for him to stop. "Call the dean."

The doctor's heart began to race in his chest. "Yes, sir. I'll call him right away."

The dean was more experienced. He could analyze Cathy's condition better than him.

Soon, the dean arrived and greeted Francis with a smile. "Don't worry, Mr. Mu. I'll arrange for the best doctor in our hospital to examine Mrs. Mu."

Cathy was forced to undergo all kinds of physical examinations.

The doctors took her blood samples to find out any underlying condition. They also performed a CT scan and ECG to diagnose her heart condition.

Cathy's blood boiled; she had no choice but to endure everything patiently. Every minute was pure torture. She couldn't deny Francis' orders, for the man looked dangerous.

After going through an excruciating day, Cathy finally returned to the ward.

Francis had already left, so she finally got the chance to rest in peace. She slumped to the bed and let out a contented sigh.

Her tired eyes were begging her to sleep, so she decided to heed their request. Cathy smiled and closed her eyes. 'I can finally get some sleep.'

By the time Bliss returned with dinner, Cathy was fast asleep.

She couldn't help but smile at how peaceful Cathy looked when she was sleeping.

Bliss tucked her in and sat down to finish the food she had brought.

Moments later, Cathy heard a faint voice was calling her name.

"Who is it?" A thick mist enveloped Cathy, thwarting her vision.

"Cathy!"

Cathy's heart fluttered; her body tingled with a strange sensation. The voice somehow seemed comforting. "Who is it?" she asked again.

"It's me!" The thick mist dispersed in an instant, revealing a beautiful figure of a woman.

Cathy was thunderstruck as she finally realized who it was. She gulped and shook her head in disbelief.

"Are you the real Catherine Lu?"

"Yeah. It's me!" A kind smile graced Catherine's lips. "Cathy, my body belongs to you now. You are Catherine Lu from now on."

"What?" Cathy scratched her head in confusion. Catherine's words seemed too strange to be true. She wondered if things like this were even possible. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to occupy your body."

"I know! Don't worry about it. Perhaps this is fate!"

Catherine smiled sadly. Although the woman looked calm, Cathy could see the endless sorrow in her benevolent eyes. A wave of guilt engulfed her.

She couldn't help but blame herself for the pain Catherine had to endure. "Don't worry, Catherine. I'll figure something out. I'll try my best to bring you back into your body. I..."

"No!" Catherine interrupted. "I don't want to go back to this world. And I certainly don't want to return to Francis' side.''

"What?" Cathy frowned. "Why?"

Catherine smiled. "I'm tired, Cathy. I don't want to go on. Perhaps God felt sorry for me and swapped our souls to save me from pain. I'm sorry, but you have to live your life as Catherine Lu. Who knows? This could be good for you as well."

"No, I..."

"I pray for you to get the happiness that I didn't witness in my life. Live well." With that, Catherine's figure disappeared without a trace.

Cathy's heart began to race in her chest; her stomach flipped with anxiety. She didn't want to be Catherine. How could she live someone else's life?

"Catherine, come back. Catherine...Catherine..."

Cathy screamed and jolted up to follow Catherine. However, a strong beam of light blinded her vision.

She placed her hands over her eyes before opening them.

When her vision slowly adapted to the light, she found herself lying in the hospital bed.

Cathy looked around in search of Catherine but couldn't find her anywhere.

Her heart sank when she spotted Francis sitting on the sofa. The panic and fear that subsided in her heart rose again.

She realized that her soul had occupied a different body.

Cathy was all alone in the room with Francis. There were no traces of Catherine.

Cathy couldn't fathom what had happened. 'Was it just a dream?'
