Chapter 6 Chapter 6

"Stop trying to scare me. It can't be that serious."

Kimberly took the cup of water, calmly downed the medicine, and casually picked up the thermometer from the bedside table for a glance as she put the cup down.

Thirty-nine point five degrees, indeed a bit high.

"I value my life. How can I genuinely wish for death?" She put back the thermometer, sat back on the bed, and smiled at Allen, "Uncle Snyder, you're really kind; you even took the effort to drive me to the hospital."

Allen's eye twitched a bit, "Uncle?"

She had previously been calling him by his name!

Kimberly giggled, "Thank you for saving my life. I'll make a banner and send it to you one day."

Allen nodded, "Sure."

Kimberly choked, "I was kidding, do you seriously want it?"

Allen's gaze narrowed slightly as he stared at her, "I never joke."

Oh great, I jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.

Seeing her somewhat stifled expression, a hint of amusement appeared in Allen's eyes.

"Shall I send you home, or would you like to stay the night?"

Kimberly had already finished her IV drip, and her fever had come down.

Given the nature of their relationship, driving her to the hospital was already more than enough, how could she expect him to stay at the hospital to take care of her?

"I'm hungry." Kimberly rubbed her belly, looking at him pitifully, "If you're not in a hurry to leave, how about we go for a late-night snack? My treat."

Kimberly was truly hungry.

She hadn't had much of an appetite during the day and had hardly eaten anything.

They went to a popular late-night food street in the city.

Kimberly ordered two light dishes, and a large serving of scrimps with thirteen spices, like she was a regular. She also asked for four bottles of beer.

Allen furrowed his eyebrows, "Just two plates of the chessy beef pasta, we don't need anything else."

The owner was slightly taken aback and looked at Kimberly.

Just as Kimberly was about to speak, Allen interrupted her, "If you value your life, don't overdo it. Next time, you might not be so fortunate to run into me."

"What about... what about making the beer two?"

Without thinking, Kimberly shrank her neck, but when she noticed that Allen was still frowning, she complained with courage.

"The food you ordered is so bland. It's really unappetizing. If I'm not in the mood to eat, I can't eat, and starving to death is worse than having a fever, right?"

Allen averted his gaze, not wanting to talk.

Kimberly looked triumphant and quickly told the owner, "two light dishes, and a large serving of scrimps with thirteen spices, oh, and two bottles of chilled beer!"

Before Allen could interrupt, she quickly raised two fingers, "Just two bottles, one for you and one for me. It's really dull to have a late-night snack without beer."

Her tone was coy and playful. Allen unconsciously curved the corner of his mouth, not stopping her.

Upon settling down, the man meticulously sterilized his utensils in hot water.

With his actions deliberate and his demeanor refined and elegant, he managed to elevate the roadside stall to the ambiance of a high-end restaurant.

Resting her chin on her hand, Kimberly joked, "I wouldn't have pegged Mr. Snyder to be so down to earth."

Initially, when she said she would take Allen to the roadside stall, she worried that he might not be comfortable. But, to her surprise, he seemed more than used to it.

Such a noble and distinguished man, ordinarily wouldn't frequent roadside stalls.

Allen said, in a soft voice, "I am but a common man."

Kimberly laughed, "If you are a common man, then someone like me might not even qualify as human."

Allen, a man whose value was unquantifiable, a domineering tycoon, besides his handsome face that could incite jealousy in deities and humans alike, he not only had a lot of female fans but male fans as well.

The perfect romantic novel male lead!

If he really was just an ordinary man, he would still be considered a celestial being experiencing trials in the mortal world.

Just as Allen finished sterilizing his cutlery and pushed it towards Kimberly, the dishes they ordered began arriving one after another.

Kimberly popped the cap off a chilled beer bottle, poured Allen a glass, and then filled one for herself, raising it towards him.

"To the life-saving grace"

Allen drained the contents of his glass in one gulp, without speaking a single superfluous word.

On a blazing hot summer day, a chilled beer sliding down one's throat is simply refreshing.

Kimberly took a large gulp, drinking half of the cup in one go. She shut her eyes in satisfaction and, after donning a disposable glove, began to peel the scrimps.

She ate quickly, yet her manner of eating wasn't unattractive at all. Rather, her chubby cheeks looked somewhat adorable as she ate.

Allen sat with his legs slightly spread. The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up, revealing the fair skin of his arms, on which his diamond cufflinks sparkled under the light of the food stall.

His left arm rested lightly on the table, with his expensive-looking wristwatch subtly exposed. His right hand expertly maneuvered a porcelain spoon. His eyes never strayed from Kimberly.

What a remarkable woman.

She had the gentleness and charm, yet also hearty assertive. It was hard not to like her.

Feeling his gaze, Kimberly narrowed her eyes into a smile and jokingly asked, "Why are you staring at me? Don't tell me, do you want me to peel scrimps for you?"
