Chapter 4 Chapter 4

Although Scott was the eldest grandson of the Robinson family and highly capable, talents abounded in this generation of the Robinson family, and the other descendants were no less remarkable. Even if the grandfather of the Robinson family spoiled him, he could not overlook the other descendants of the Robinson family and simply hand over the reigns of control to him.

To become the head of the Robinson family, he must win over the people, something only he could accomplish.

The Robinson family and the Watson family were old friends after all, and Hazel Watson was the wife personally selected by his grandfather for him. He had no choice but to marry her.

Once he received the support of the Watson family, Scott could stand firm within the Robinson family and even held an advantage in the fight for the patriarchy.

Should he refuse the arranged marriage, he would be automatically eliminating himself from the competition for the head of the family.

Kimberly understood all of these, but she could not accept being cast aside by the man she had loved for over a decade for power.

"You told me to wait for you. But what about Hazel Watson? She is innocent and shouldn't be dragged into this."

"Scott, let's leave the Robinson family and start anew somewhere nobody knows us, alright?"

"Scott, don't marry her."

Tension was etched across the handsome face of Scott, an unprecedented seriousness looming over him.

"Kimberly, anyone can persuade me to give up, but you cannot. You, more than anyone, know how hard I have struggled and longed for success over the years."

"At the most critical moment, shouldn't you be standing behind me, giving me your unconditional support?"

Hazel was his bargaining chip to fight for the headship of the Robinson family, and he couldn't possibly refrain from marrying her.

As for Kimberly, she was merely an orphan girl under someone else's roof. She had nothing and couldn't help him.

Even if his grandfather loved her as his own granddaughter, she was not his kin after all. Despite knowing that he and Kimberly truly loved each other, the grandfather still arranged the marriage pact.

His wife, Hazel Watson, is deemed the best candidate.

Kimberly also acknowledges Scott's ambition and aspirations, traits she once admired the most.

But now, she utterly detests his ambitions!

Kimberly didn't want to engage in cold war anymore, she headed for the bedroom with a stern face.

"Kimberly," Scott rose from his seat to follow, but was halted abruptly by her icy stare.

"Don't push me!" she declared sharply, "Go. I don't want to see you again!"

Then, following a loud thud, the bedroom door was slammed shut.

Scott stood outside, his hand clenched and released repeatedly at his side, but in the end, he did not go in.

Kimberly immediately rushed into the bathroom, standing under the showerhead, allowing the cold water to pour over her. She lost track of how long she stood, she wasn't even sure if the wetness on her face was more water or tears.

It felt like an invisible giant hand, tightly squeezing her heart to the point of suffocation.

Kimberly numbly cleaned herself up, changed into fresh clothes, and walked into the living room.

The man was gone, he had left nothing but a mess, and her shattered heart.

Her head felt swampy, thoughts entirely ceased.

At that moment, her phone suddenly rang, she thought it was Scott and hastily picked up the call, only to be disappointed once again.

It was the traffic police department's call.

Her car was towed away due to illegal parking, prompting her to rush to pay the fine and retrieve it.

Kimberly didn't want to go out, yet she had no choice but to muster her energy and pay a visit to the traffic police station.

Only after paying a fine and receiving a lecture were the traffic policemen willing to let her go.

---

The next day, Kimberly arrived promptly for work at her company.

She'd studied computer science in university and refused any help from the Robinson family after graduation, transforming herself into a dedicated programmer.

Beautiful and highly skilled in her field, Kimberly immediately became the beloved team darling amongst the ostensibly bachelors programmers in her department. Therefore, she had a rather good time in her two years since joining the company.

Having taken a day off yesterday, she decided to work overtime today.

Listening to her frequent sneezes, a concerned colleague asked, "Kimberly, are you sick? I have some cold medicine, do you want it?"

She'd probably caught a cold from being in the cold rain for too long yesterday.

Covering her nose with a tissue, Kimberly thanked the colleague profusely. After accepting the cold medicine, she went to the pantry to boil water and take the medicine.

Just as she settled down after taking the medicine, she suddenly received a message from Hazel Watson, inviting her out for a gathering in the evening.

Kimberly was hesitant for a while before replying: [I have to work overtime tonight. You might need to invite someone else.]

Watson Hazel: [Overtime huh... How about tomorrow then? Tomorrow is the weekend, we could go for a meal and then catch a movie together, how about it?]

Hazel: [Kimberly, we haven't had a gathering since I returned home.]

Following this, she sent a distressed emoji.

Kimberly held her phone, her fingertips trembling slightly.

The reason she was so furious was not merely because Hazel Watson was someone negligible, but her close friend instead.

She had known Watson Hazel since elementary school. They were really good friends until after the middle school graduation examinations when Hazel Watson went abroad for studies. Although they didn't connect frequently, their friendship remained unaltered.

Half a month ago, Hazel Watson returned to California.

Despite their close relationship, she had never heard Hazel mention Scott...

After a long wait and no reply from Kimberly, Hazel sent another message, "Kimberly, baby, are you really not planning to accompany me? Do you not love me anymore?" Accompanied by a crying emoji.

Kimberly took a deep breath, paused, and replied, "Fine, see you tomorrow."

Kimberly worked overtime until eleven o'clock at night.

When she came out of the office, her head felt dizzy, and while waiting for the elevator, she was about to fall asleep standing.

"Ding-"

The elevator arrived, and there were people inside.

Without looking up, she instinctively moved away from that person, shifting herself towards the corner. Unexpectedly, as she stepped into the elevator, her legs gave in, and she fell directly into that person's arms!

She hastily grabbed the person's clothes, struggling to steady herself.

The crisp air was laced with a faint scent of tobacco, which seemed oddly familiar to her.

Before Kimberly had time to react, a man's voice echoed from above her; it was deep and dangerous.

"What is this? Throwing yourself at me?"

Kimberly was taken aback, and before she knew it, she looked up into a familiar and handsome face.

It was Allen.

He was wearing a white shirt, the top two buttons undone, revealing his finely contoured collarbone.

A black suit jacket was draped over his left arm. His stern features were sharply defined, and his black eyes were as calm and dangerous as the night.

She blinked rapidly, staring incredulously at the man before her.

What was he doing here?

It quickly dawned on her.

She worked for Multi vitals Corporation, which was owned by the Snyder family, and Allen was none other than the CEO of Multi vitals.

She had been working here for two years and had never met him before. How could she be so lucky today?

Wasn't it peculiar? Didn't the CEO have a private elevator? Why was he in the staff elevator?

Allen lowered his gaze slightly, his eyes landing on her small hand, still resting on his chest. "Aren't you going to let go?"

Embarrassed, Kimberly withdrew her hand and tried to stand up, but suddenly felt a wave of darkness overcome her, and she fell back into his arms.

Allen, "...."

Kimberly awkwardly replied, "....I feel dizzy."

Saying so, she embarrassingly shuffled her feet, edging towards the elevator wall.

In the overly cramped elevator, she was practically plastered onto the wall while trying to widen the distance between the two.

Yet, the man next to her was occasionally stealing glances at her, outwardly unperturbed.

Kimberly has never experienced such embarrassment, wishing she could disappear on the spot!

While she was trying to alleviate the awkwardness, His deep voice echoed again, "Do you work here?"

A hint of surprise was evident in his voice.

There are already a few female programmers, let alone such an attractive one.

"No one supports me, so I have to support myself."

Saying so, Kimberly even picked up her ID card around her neck, waving it in front of him.

"I wonder if Mr Snyder is interested, in supporting me?" she joked.

It was just a casual comment, she didn't mean it, but the man turned to her unexpectedly, his eyes full of emotions she couldn't understand.

Before she could react, the man's long fingers suddenly held her chin, following which ambiguous words filled her ears.

"You're so good at flirting, aren't you afraid no one will support you?"

The sudden pain caused Kimberly's eyebrows to furrow.

She's good at flirting?

The woman in front of him has her hair tied in a simple bun, and even without makeup, her delicate little face could not hide her beauty. Perhaps due to illness, her cheeks were slightly flushed, and the beautiful almond-shaped eyes were misty, captivating.

Allen held his breath, slightly lowered his body, and moved his lips to her ear, "One-night stand, you didn't get a chance the day before yesterday, do you want to try today?"
