Chapter 6 Uncovered Secrets

Amy froze. She hadn't noticed the maid coming.

"Bring whoever it is in here," Damian ordered the maid.

The maid pushed Amy into the room triumphantly. She felt like she had won a lottery. She will be rewarded for catching a thief in the house!

Amy let herself be pushed into the living room. She was too shocked by her recent discovery to even react.

Lily, Amy's mother frowned her face the moment Amy appeared.

"What are you doing here? Why have you come to this house, you good for nothing child!"

"What were you both talking about?" Amy asked.

Lily grabbed her collar and yelled,

"How long have you been standing by the door? Speak up!"

Amy's blood boiled and she shoved Lily away from her. Lily was surprised. Amy had always been one obedient girl who obeyed at all times and was treated as trash by them.

"Did you push me? Have you lost your mind?"

She approached Amy menacingly and raised her hands to slap her.

"Don't you dare! I am no longer the Amy you used to know. I won't sit back and have you treat me as you like. Now, tell me. What were you too talking about? Are you both really my parents? Dad? I need an answer!"

Amy's newly acquired courage didn't go down well with Lily. She wanted to have full power and authority over that child.

She didn't ever want her to know her worth or her true existence. She decided to put up a brave face and frighten Amy all the more. She wanted her to return to the

meek and submissive girl she used to be.

"Get out of this house! You don't belong here. Leave here this minute."

"Not so fast. I won't leave until you tell me what I need to know. Who are my parents? What inheritance are you talking about?"

"Amy, you don't know what you are saying. How can you ask if we are your parents? We housed and cared for you for over twenty three years and this is how you repay us? Now, apologize to your mother and I. And let this be the first and last something of this nature will repeat itself. Quick. Apologize!" Damian thundered.

Yet, Amy wasn't moved. She guessed they were hiding something from her. From the conversation, she was the only possible person they could be talking about.

"If you will not apologize as your father ordered, you get out of this house!" Lily continued.

"So, I am not your daughter?"

"And who dares raise her voice at my parents?"

The three turned in the direction of the voice. It was Angie, their first daughter and her father's favourite.

"Ohhh. You?" she sneered when she saw Amy.

"So, you are still alive. Have you come here to beg us for some money?" she mocked.

"You wish! I am here to take what is mine..."

"Hahaha! This is so funny. Did you just say take what is yours? Has anything ever belonged to you? Come on. You are constituting a nuisance. Don't bother my parents ever again. I could have given you some change, because I'm sure you need that. But I gave it to more important people. Now, be gone or I will have the servants throw you out!"

Before Amy could react, Angie came back in with three servants.

"Throw her out!" she ordered and turned to a maid nearby.

"Get us wine and wine glasses."

"I will come back for you all. I must get to the root of this matter!" Amy shouted after them.

Lily and Damian heaved an inward sigh of relief. Angie's timely intervention had saved their ass. They would be more careful next time.

Amy fumbled her purse for her credit card. She was going to use her last few bucks to book a room in a cheap hotel. That was all she could do.

Her thoughts went to Logan Wayne. She thought of asking him for help. Maybe, she would ask him for a loan. Weekend was almost there. She could only hope that her little money would keep her going until then.

It had rained some hours ago, so there was water on the road. A car sped past and splashed dirty water on her.

Amy wanted to yell and curse the driver. She wanted to tell that person to go to a thousand demons for getting her wet.

But on a closer inspection, she saw that the car didn't belong to an ordinary man. She didn't want to further complicate her problems by getting into trouble with a wealthy or popular man.

She took out her handkerchief and wiped off the water stains on her cloth. She continued her journey and noticed that the car had come to a halt. She ignored it but the driver honked his horn to attract her attention.

The passenger's window wound down to reveal a very handsome face. Logan Wayne.

"I'm sorry my dear. Where..." he paused when he noticed the little extra bag she was carrying.

"What's that? Are you travelling?"

"No. I just wanted to book a room at the hotel," she answered and immediately regretted saying too much.

"Book a room? Get into the car please."

She stared down at her clothes that had been messed up by the water. She could not dent his expensive car with her clothes.

"It's fine. Come in. I don't mind."

She smiled in appreciation. Logan's heart melted at her smile.

She has such an amazing smile.

"Why book a room?" Logan continued his questions.

Amy thought of a quick lie.

"Ohhh! I just wanted to take a break from home. Just spend a few days in a hotel and relax." She was bad at lying and she hoped Logan wouldn't discover her lie.

Thankfully, he didn't. Instead, he wrapped his arms around her and said to his driver,

"Take us to Skye light."

Amy's jaw dropped. Why was he taking her to Skye light? That was the biggest and most expensive hotel in the state!
