Chapter 5 Don't Be Scared

The blonde woman on the hospital bed closed her eyes. Jayden pulled the thin blanket over her, his eyes stopping at her slender neck. It looked so fragile that he could kill her with just a slight twist.

She asked him if she was bad before? How ridiculous! She was a bitch.

But things were going well, he had to be patient. He told himself that and went out.

Outside the hospital room, Kane, his assistant, saw him go out and said, "Boss, why don't you take a few days off to take care of Miss Rivera? She's not okay at all."

The hatred in Jayden's eyes still hadn't dissipated, he frowned at him, "Why?"

If she wasn't okay, what the hell did it have to do with him? Since when did this assistant want to suggest days off for him?

Kane replied in confusion, "Why? Aren't you worried about her? You were so anxious to come back here just now. Sorry, I'm too nosy."

Kane's voice gradually became smaller and smaller, then he slapped himself twice in the face.

"I'm worried? Oh, right." Jayden smirked. He almost forgot that he had to act as Lena's passionate pursuer in front of everyone.

In order for her to trust him quickly, he had to take care of her and encourage her as much as possible. This period of time was the most important when she couldn't remember anything.

"Then tell the secretary to rearrange my schedule. The meetings can be held online." He said. "Also, don't let this matter out. I'm on a business trip, understand?"

"Yes, boss."

Jayden left Kane there and left the hospital to handle important documents. He looked at his watch as he worked, then suddenly realized that he was a bit nervous. The appearance of Lena's ex-boyfriend this morning made him a little wary. Although he knew she wasn't easy to bully, she had lost her memory now. If someone provoked her to the point where she... jumped off the building and killed herself, his plan would be in vain.

Jayden thought his imagination was too extreme, but when he returned to the hospital, someone had really provoked Lena.

"My poor daughter! Not only was she injured, she also lost her memory! If my husband knew, he would be heartbroken!"

The woman in the red dress, with curly brown hair and heavy makeup, in front of Lena wiped her tears and groaned. The fat man sitting next to her kept staring at Lena. She felt uncomfortable.

Ever since this woman entered, she had introduced herself as Audrey, her stepmother, and looked very sad when she didn't recognize her. If Lena hadn't heard people in the hospital gossiping that she had run away with the money after her father was arrested, she would have almost believed her tears were real.

"Sorry, I couldn't come to the hospital to see you last night because I was busy saving your dad." Audrey said apologetically. "Speaking of which, I tried my best but couldn't do anything. To help your dad, we need a large sum of money. Lena, he gave you a lot of money before, can you lend it to me to handle his matter?"

So she came to get more money from her? Lena felt disgusted to the point of laughter. Did this woman think that if she lost her memory, she would lose her reason too?

However, she might know something about her father's case. Lena imitated her sad expression and said, "You see, my accounts are all my dad's. He was arrested so they were all frozen. I don't even have money to pay the hospital bills."

Hearing this, a flash of contempt flashed in Audrey's eyes, but she quickly returned to her fake gentleness.

"It's okay, fortunately there's still a way." She turned her face to the fat man beside her and said, "Mr. Keller has agreed to help us with your dad's case. He's the director of KJ Company. As long as you agree to marry him, your dad will be his dad and of course he will do his best to help you."

Lena blinked at her stepmother, surprised by her shamelessness and greed. Not only did she want her to give her money, but she also wanted her to marry this fat man. She would definitely get a big deal out of him.

"Haha," Lena laughed, not bothering to pretend anymore. "My dad is in jail so now you're going to sell me?"

"Honey, what are you talking about?" Audrey called her sweetly, pretending to analyze rationally. "I know you have high standards but now is not the time for that. Who do you think would marry you now? Your dad was arrested and our family property was confiscated. It's already a great fortune for you that Mr. Keller is willing to help us. Moreover, your boyfriend has already betrayed you."

What a damn old woman!

Lena glared at her, her voice cold, "Stop pretending! Do you think I lost my memory and don't know anything? You abandoned my dad, took the money and ran away, but when you heard that I lost my memory, you came back to sell me. I've never seen anyone as despicable as you. Do you want me to sue you for mistreating your stepchild?"

"Damn it!" Audrey stood up and cursed, not bothering to act anymore and shouted. "Sue my ass! He didn't register our marriage and yet you want me to be responsible for you? That's right, I came back to see your pathetic face, you arrogant brat! Let's see who can stop me from selling you without your dad! Now you have to leave the hospital and follow Mr. Keller, understand?"

After saying that, Audrey stepped forward to pull Lena away. She quickly moved back, grabbed the fruit plate on the cabinet to throw it at her, but a dark figure appeared faster and pushed Audrey aside.

Audrey suddenly fell into the fat man, causing him to fall to the floor too. He sat up and hissed, "Damn it! Who dares to interfere in-- Oh, Mr. Harris, hello sir. What are you doing here?"

The fat man's shout suddenly turned into a flattering greeting.

Ignoring him, Jayden carefully shielded Lena, his eyes scanning her body, "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"

"No, I'm okay." She replied.

"Don't be scared. I'm here." He said gently, took the plate from her hand, and hugged her.

"I'm not scared." She denied but didn't push him away.

Her heart suddenly started beating faster, not knowing whether it was because she was touched or angry. She pulled her head back and glared at Audrey who was standing up.

"Clack, clack," Jayden's assistant came running in now, wiping his sweat. "Sorry, boss. I... I just went to pick up some things for her but-"

Jayden gently let go of her and turned to glare at him.

"Lena, who is this?" Audrey asked her with a wary gaze. "Someone you know-?"

"You're so stupid!" The fat guy beside her suddenly shouted, interrupting her. "Why didn't you tell me she was Mr. Harris's woman?" He turned to Jayden, smiling flatteringly. "Mr. Harris, I'm sorry. We've offended you!"
