Adeolu was fully awake as their was no trace of sleep left in his eyes anymore, he knew he was going to regret oversleeping, he took a couple of steps backwards until there was no more space to move to, since his back was already resting on the bookshelf
Olalekan was visibly angry, as he rained curses on Adeolu
" so because you don't go to school, you intentionally didn't wake up so that I and my sister will not eat before we go to school "Abi"
" No brother Olalekan it's not my intent to oversleep, let me quickly rushed and make your breakfast" he said hoping to escape the wrath of Olalekan
Just then Daramola made her way into the bookshop, Adeolu doesn't dare address any of them by there first name directly, he uses brother for the boys and sister for the girl, even though he is age mate with Olalekan and older than his sister Daramola
" Olalekan, what are you doing talking to this boy, you know that is only when they beat him his head use to correct, can you reason with a goat?...." she said
" I wanted to give him the beating of his life but we are running late ourselves and I don't want to "chop" cane early Monday morning let's leave him for now"
" what are you still doing here, will you go and make something for us to eat before I beat you myself, "Ode Oshi" am sure you are so stupid you don't know how to spell your name " she said
Adeolu thank both of them as he ran upstairs to the public kitchen to make a quick food for Olalekan and Daramola before making the food their parent would eat....
After having breakfast Olalekan and Daramola went out to school, Adeolu was always happy when he saw them leaving for school at least during that period they won't bully him, and he don't use to worry about the eldest child Olajide because he mostly don't use to stay at home and anytime he does visit he was to busy pressing his laptop to have time to inflict pain on him. He was not saying his a saint or a good person, far from that, infact he was the one who first started treating him badly when he was still in school, he did many horrible things to him, that made his younger ones seesm Adeolu as an object to experiment on
He could still remember vividly when he was 11 years old, Olajide took a handful of black ant in a bowl then put them on his body while he slept, he remembered waking up with the pain of multiple sting of the ants, he even fell sick as a result of that
But ever since he started pressing his laptop the time he spent in harming Adeolu have reduced, even though Adeolu didn't know what Olajide was always doing with the laptop he is happy with the fact that it has become a source of distraction to him....

It was a Saturday morning the sun was shining brightly as if it wanted to punish man that particular day, Adeolu had done all the necessary house work and also prepared food ready for the Femi's family, he had took his share of the food, being a Saturday everyone was at home so Adeolu wisely left the house to stay at the shop, but no one was coming to buy any books yet, so Adeolu used the opportunity to read through some books but he couldn't concentrate on what he was reading as he kept remembering the dream he dreamt about the previous night in fact it is always the same dream he had been dreaming ever since he could remember, this is no ordinary dream it's more like a nightmare, but it looks so real that everytime he woke up from it, he felt like crying
He has told his foster parent about his constant nightmares in the past but they brush it aside and said he should not disturb them with such matters again. But the dream never goes away it seems more of a memory than a dream.
It's goes like this, the dream was not always clear, somehow blurry but the voices were clear enough, he could hear a man and woman conversing happily in the car front seat then all of a sudden there was screaming and then silence... but blood everywhere, and that's where he always woke up. He couldn't go further than that he was too scared to continue sleeping
He wished he knew who those people were if he could just see their faces, why was everything so blurry? Was it a memory of his parents? But it can't be, that's not the story his foster dad had told him
He always said he saw him by the road side wrapped around with white clothes and he was not up to a year old when he saw him lying helplessly on the road about to die of cold and hunger, he had told him his mother had abandoned him and ran away immediately she gave birth to him. So he reasoned this can't be his memory, it was just a horrible dream he just can't stop dreaming about.....
Adeolu tried removing those thoughts from his memory as he picked up the book he was reading Concept Of Physics and started going through it again
Just then Mrs Femi entered into the shop with only wrapper tied from her upper body down
Adeolu quickly greeted her but she did not reply back but just starred at him looking for how to fault him
" what is it you think you are doing " she said pointing at the book Adeolu was holding
" Mummy am reading it "
" Who is your mummy? don't you ever call me that again, I can never be your mummy " she said then laugh at him scornfully " you said you are reading a book, can you even read? " she said mockingly
Adeolu wanted to say yes he could read but he decided it was best no one knows he is able to read nor write
" No Ma, I don't know how to read I was just trying to see if I am able to understand what it's written on it" Adeolu said convincingly
Laughing hard " don't you know it's too late for you to learn how to read, my friend will you drop that book and go and do some work for me " she said
" alright MA what do you want me to do "
" are you stupid?!! Are you asking me, don't you know what you are supposed to do when you wake up in the morning " she said putting her hands on her waist
" am sorry MA, but I have done everything, including washing the car " Adeolu said smiling, knowing that will irritate Mrs Femi
" Oh I see you are trying to be smart with me, you want work to do "Abi" don't worry I will give you work" she said
She took Adeolu to the room, and told him to bring down two "Ghana most go" bags filled with old books and newspaper on the top of the wooden wardrobe and told him to remove all the books in them then dust them clean and also arranged them according to their year before putting them back into the Ghana most go bags
Adeolu quickly wished he had not said anything to her and just want and rewash the car or something like that, at least that would have been easier on him, how long will this take him. But he dare not complain as he tried his best to keep a smile on his face....
An hour moved passed slowly and Adeolu was still arranging the books outside the compound while the rest where watching movies inside, the sun wasn't gentle on him constantly shinning down making the sweat on his body look more like water, he kept on rearranging a seemingly unending books.
But then he stumbled on a particular newspaper that caught his attention.
It was a punch newspaper, as he dusted it off to see the year clearly year 2005 and it's main story was about the death of a man Mr Adebowale and his family. The heading reads
The Country In Tears As Mr Adebowale David And His Family Was Found Dead
He stared at their picture, that of the man his wife and child, and somehow he thought they looked familiar to him but he didn't know where he had seen them before
So he read through the newspaper to see the course of their death, the papers say it was a freak accident and that Mr Adebowale David was driving so fast that his car ignite in flames and it burnt him and his family alive but however they only saw two corpses the corpse of the child Adebowale junior was missing, some says he was totally burnt to ashes while others says maybe he escaped but surely would have died on the way
Adeolu didn't know why he felt pity for this family so much and he was also curious about them, but he knew he was not going to get anything from his foster family if he asked them, experience have taught him that lesson. So he quickly rolled the paper and hid it, and continued with what he was doing.
During dinner Mr Femi was complaining about nothing in particular as he yells and shout at everyone in the room, he does this when he has had some amount of alcohol
for someone that sells educative books Mr Femi do behave in a strange manner Adeolu have always thought, he expects Mr Femi to be a little more responsible than he is, but his opinion matters little as he served everyone there food.
" how many meat did this boy put on my meal " Mr Femi said to no one in particular
" is two meat not ok for you? How many meats do you want him to put for you before " Mrs Femi said looking at her husband scornfully
" woman, what a silly question don't you know I'm the head of this family and you should know how to talk to me, how can you put only two meat for me"
" that's why I asked you how many meats you want him to put for you " she said
" now you are talking, at least from four upward it's ok" Mr Femi said with a wide smile on his face
" you no well, four meat " Abi" come and eat it let you die, see this man oh, How much did you drop for me this morning before leaving, only God knows where you have gone today self, that's how you left and brought this "mumu"boy to my house " she said pointing at Adeolu " how many meats do you think the rest of us took? "
" you better watch your mouth woman, I'm the one bringing the money so I deserve to complain about what I feel is not going according to my liken, but alright I will manage this one for now" Mr Femi said then he dipped his hand into the "Eba" and took a hand full of it before putting it into the plate of "egusi" soup
Everyone ate while Adebola waited he was the Omega of the family and most eat last...
After everyone was done with there meal Adebola took the dishes outside to wash, and he ate the left over happily at least he saw something to eat tonight he remembers many nights he slept with nothing in his stomach except water.....
Adeolu finished washing the dishes and went to the bookshop to spend the night, it was 9:00pm and the full moon was out lot of stars in the sky and Adeolu srared at the sky and then asked himself if there was anybody out there you missed him. Not long after tears roll down from his face as he already knows the answer to the question
What will happen next
