Chapter 9 Sophia.

SOPHIA'S POV.

Lucas took me back to my apartment and I could tell that he wasn't happy through out the car ride. He was silent and he had this cold expression on his face that made me uncomfortable and somewhat scared.

Once at my house, he got out of the car and banged the door loudly after him, stomping towards the entry in anger, and leaving me seated there frightened.

After a short while, I climbed down from the car and went in after Lucas, only to find him pacing in the living room.

I stood there staring at him. I fidgeted with my fingers not knowing what to do about this side of him.

After some minutes, he stopped pacing and stared at me. "Why didn't you tell me that you were uncomfortable in your dress, Sophia?! You allowed another man to insult me and make me feel like I don't care enough about my girlfriend!"

I was shaking even as tears well up in my eyes, "I_I am sorry Lucas. I did try to tell you before we left, but you said you wanted me to look perfect, and I..."

Lucas sighed heavily, cutting off my sentence. He walked towards me and pulled me into a hug, "I'm sorry honey. I should have noticed. As your boyfriend, you didn't have to tell me before I figured that you were uncomfortable. It's my fault, I am sorry love."

I instantly relaxed at his words. At least he isn't really mad at me, but that didn't stop me from letting out a few drops of tears.

Lucas gently pulled me away from his chest and brushed off my tears. "I'm so sorry love. From now on, I won't force you to wear what you don't want to wear. You are beautiful in anything you put on, and anyone who doesn't think so can go to hell."

I giggled at his words and he smiled, giving me a loving kiss. "Now that's the smile I've been wanting to see all night."

I placed my head on his chest again, "I love you Lucas."

He brushed his hand down my hair in a gentle caress, "I love you too."

We remain in that position for sometime, then Lucas suggested that I take a seat so he could help massage my feet. They have reddened from the heels I have been struggling with all night.

"Yikes! These heels really did a number on my baby," he said in a sorry voice as he massaged it gently. He even went as far as giving both foot a kiss. I couldn't help blushing at the gesture.

"Lucas, you are ridiculous." I tried pulling my legs away, but he held on tightly.

"It's a healing kiss," he said and we both laughed. After our laughter died down, Lucas informed, "by the way Sophia, I've already discussed with my family, and I've decided that we should get married at the end of the month."

The smile on my face vanished, and I sat up to be sure I heard correctly. "B_but Lucas, the end of the month? That's in two weeks."

He smiled with an eager nod, "Yes honey. I am dying to make you my wife already."

"But it's too soon Lucas. Your family doesn't even like me. I don't think..."

"Sophia, that's not an excuse. Once we get married and you start living in the same house as mom, she is going to see how amazing you are. As for my sister Amelia, her opinion doesn't matter. She got herself a gangster for a boyfriend, and I'm sure she has more to worry about than me."

I was still wary about this. A wedding in two weeks? We haven't even dated for a month yet. It's too soon for me. I don't think I am ready.

"Lucas, maybe we should think about this more thoroughly."

He sighed tiredly, "I thought you love me Sophia. What more do you want to think about? You should be more eager to marry me than me asking you to. A lot of women would kill to be in your place, but I choose you because I love you. You should be grateful instead of being doubtful about it."

Guilt instantly washed over me. He is right. A lot of women would kill to be in my place, but here I am, acting like a scared coward.

Lucas has proven in many ways that he loves me. There is no reason for me to be doubtful about marrying him.

"Okay."

He grinned widely, "that's my girl." He leaned forward and kissed me gently. "We will begin preparations for our engagement party, after that we can make plans for our wedding. I plan to take you somewhere nice for our honeymoon. I'm already very excited."

I smiled gently at his excited expression. Maybe marriage would not be that bad.

After all, all that matters is love.

***

I have no idea how the news of my engagement to Lucas spread all over the company, and now everyone seem eager to be my friend.

It's a bit annoying, but as someone who has zero friends and family, I felt sort of glad to see people eager for my attention and wanting to be friends with me.

It felt nice.

Through the week, Lucas was busy with preparations for the engagement party. Choosing a place for the party and writing out the guest list.

Lucas mostly did all the work, because well, he's rich and he actually has lots of friends and family members to invite. I had no one.

I don't think my opinion matters anyway. Maybe that's why Lucas didn't bother asking me of my opinion in all the plans he made.

On a Wednesday morning at the office, an unexpected visitor came to see me at my department. It was Mrs Sullivan.

Everyone scrambled around like chicken with their heads cut off at the sight of the boss's mother. But she was only here to see me.

We both went into the Manager's office, and the manager excused himself to give us some privacy.

Mrs Sullivan sat staring at me for a long moment, and I kept my eyes on my lap, too scared and intimidated to stare back at her.

Finally she spoke, "okay Samantha, spit it out. How much do you want to leave my son's life?"

I was too shocked to even correct her mistake of my name again. "I don't understand what you mean ma'am."

She rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Is my language that hard to understand? Don't try to play the saint. I know how things works for gold diggers like yourself. You fooled my son so much so that he is all too eager to jump into marriage with you. I know you are desperate for his money, but I am willing to offer you more than he can."

That was like a slap to my integrity. I know she is only worried about Lucas, but that doesn't mean she should assume things about me.

I hardly get angry, but there is a limit to what I can take. "I love Lucas Mrs Sullivan. I am not a gold digger and I am not after his money."

She scoffed in disbelief, "then tell me this. Did he or did he not buy you a house just a few days of you guys dating?"

"Y_yes, but I didn't ask him to." I defended.

"There is very little difference between asking and receiving, Samantha. You should have refused when he gave it to you. Only a golddigger would accept such a gift in just few days of dating a man."

I was lost for words and in distress about this. I was against taking it from the beginning, but Lucas insisted.

Tears filled my eyes as I mumbled, "I'm not a golddigger."

Mrs Sullivan stood up with a snort. "I'll give you fifty million dollars if you disappear out of my son's life. Make a decision before the engagement party, because I hate waiting for underserving people." With that she flung her business card on my lap and walked out of the office.

The tears flowed from my eyes and fell right on my lap against the sleek black business card.

"I'm not a golddigger, just an unfortunate poor orphan who fell in love with a rich man." I held the business card in my hand and stared at it. "You should have told me that it was going to be difficult Jesus. Now what am I going to do?"
