Chapter 6 Betrayal and Broken Bonds

Damian's eyes welled up with tears as he saw Diana inside a Benz, sitting alone and driven by an Arab chauffeur! He couldn't hold back the tears and found himself crying.

"So that's why I was prevented from going to the UK; the President is dating my wife?" Damian cried.

There was no longer any need of going to the airport; what he had come to see, he had already seen. He sank into his car and drove it over a bump that separated the road and entered the opposite side. The car sped up as he tried to follow the President's convoy. It wasn't easy to catch up due to the long line of cars on the road.

A deep anger gripped his heart. He was prepared for anything, but not to be disrespected this much.

Along the way, he thought of alot when he remembered their wedding day. He understood what had happened between Diana and President Daniel.

"So the dinner invitation at the State House was just a ploy to lure my wife and finding her a scholarship to the UK, was a way to get her out of my hands so they could expand their relationship. They stopped me from going to the UK so they could make my wife theirs! I will not accept this, I will take revenge!"

Damian drove his car straight to State House after missing the President's convoy. His aim was to get inside and confront the President about the wrongs he had done to him.

At the entrance to State House, his car was stopped, and he was asked to get out, where they began interrogating him, wanting to know the reason for his visit. The guards were not satisfied with his reasons and asked him to leave. Damian tried to persuade them by explaining that his wife was inside, but he was still not allowed to enter.

Damian decided to return home, lock himself in his room, and cry! He couldn't believe what was happening, Diana, the woman he had brought out from the village, was the one who had truly betrayed him.

---

While Damian continued crying in his room, at State House, there was a lavish party to welcome the President home. More than that, there was another announcement the President was planning to make that evening.

People ate and drank, enjoying themselves. Diana had no idea about Damian at all; she was by the President's side, being introduced to every guest at the party.

"If things go well, I expect this beautiful young lady to take over and cover Aaron's mother's space!" the President told his close advisor, Jaden Mathias.

"You two will get along great, sir, as wife and husband!"

The President and Diana clinked their glasses and laughed joyfully. No one remembered Damian among them. Whatever they did, they saw it as their right.

By 1 am, Diana had not returned, and Damian sat in his room, continuing to blame himself and regretting the time he had wasted on that woman!

"If I have to kill her, I will do it today, I'll end it all and we will both be gone," said Damian as he stood up and went to the closet, where he took his pistol and placed it on his waist, ready to set off to find Diana.

Before leaving, he decided to leave a note informing people of his reasons for deciding to kill his wife and then take his own life.

Once he finished writing, he stuffed it in his pocket and stood tall, ready to leave, but just before opening the door, he heard a car being parked in front of his house. Through the window, he saw the guard opening the gate to let the car in.

He saw Diana get out of the car. The driver turned the car around and drove out of the gate. Diana waved goodbye to the driver and began to walk inside. When she entered, the first thing she did, before even greeting him, was to hand Damian a letter she had in her hand.

"Read that letter, you fool, and see how people's lives twist!"

Shaking with anger, feeling his whole body go numb, Damian picked up the letter and began reading it carefully.

Republic of Bentaz

To Mrs. Diana Damian,

The Government of the Republic of Bentaz has appointed you as its Ambassador to Egypt, with immediate effect. You are required to prepare for travel within the next two days.

This letter drained Damian's strength. He realized just how determined the President was to take his wife.

"Have you seen that? Leave me alone, go find another woman who is your type, and I'll openly tell you today that I am...?" Diana was unable to finish her sentence after being interrupted by Damian.

"Even if you don't proceed, I've already understood, and I don't need to compete with you or President Daniel, but what I know is that when I took you, you weren't my type, and I'm surprised that today you're telling me to find a woman of my type!".

"Ha! Ha! Ha! What are you saying?"

"Diana!" Damian called her in a tired voice, "You're lucky because I love you very much and I have great sympathy for you, and it has been so from the first day I laid eyes on you. Otherwise, today I would have ended you here," Damian said, placing his pistol on the table.

Diana trembled with fear; she wanted to run outside after seeing the pistol.

"Don't run, Diana, I've forgive you, I've left everything to God, He will repay me. I had planned to kill you with this pistol, but I can't do that, I wish you all the best!"

"You talk too much with no action, just get out of here," Diana said as she walked to the bedroom, leaving Damian sitting in the living room with a troubled mind, tears flowing from his eyes.

While she was in her room, Diana heard another voice telling her that what she was doing was a big mistake, but she decided to ignore the voice. She didn't want her parents to find out, knowing very well that they wouldn't accept her decision to leave Damian, who was loved by everyone in their family.

Damian got up and followed Diana to her room, pleading with her to change her mind. He thought deeply about the love he had for Diana, and he found himself crying, begging her to agree to go with him to Egypt.

"It's impossible to go with you. Have you ever seen an ambassador travel with his wife or husband?"

"They do, Diana!"

"Well, I can't. You stay here and manage your affairs. In other words, this is the end of us!"

"Diana, why are you doing this to me? What have I done wrong? Remember where we came from, you and I."

"That's history to me now. I'm looking at my future!"

"Then it's okay, I'm even willing to let you travel with the president, but don't leave me!"

"It's impossible, Damian."

That night, Damian couldn't sleep at all.

When morning came, a government V8 car with official plates parked in front of their house and started honking.

"I'm going to the village to visit my parents and say goodbye before I leave for Egypt!" Diana told Damian.

"Then let me come with you, at least we can talk about this matter with the elders!"

"What for? Who told you this matter needs the elders' solution? Just stay calm, I don't want you to mess up my plans."

"It's not like that, Diana, please listen to me. I love you so much, Diana!"

Diana didn't respond. She went outside and called President Daniel, explaining that Damian might follow her to the village and disrupt her plans.

"Don't worry, leave that task to me," the President assured her.

Five minutes after Diana ended the call, a police car arrived, and riot police officers quickly got out and ran into their house without even knocking. Damian didn't understand what was happening.

"You're under arrest!"

"For what crime? What have I done?"

"It's an order from the Presidency!"

Damian was left stunned, weakened.

"Seriously Diana, have we really reached this point?"

The officer handcuffed Damian and started pushing him outside.

Diana watched as Damian was loaded into the car before she got into the V8, and the journey to the village began.

It was a 10-hour journey to their village, and the car was moving incredibly fast! She arrived in the village at night and was shocked by the changes she found at their home. It had been a long time since she had been there, and she was amazed by the transformations. There were two large modern houses, and the big generator Damian had bought was powering everything.

The guard Damian had stationed opened the gate, and the car was driven inside. The changes were so surprising that she could hardly believe it was her parents house.

After greetings, the first thing she asked her father was about the houses.

"Dad, who built these houses?"

"Your husband completely forbade me from telling you; he wanted to surprise you when you returned! There's no man with such a good heart as Damian. If you divorce him, my daughter, everyone will be shocked!"

Diana lowered her head; her father didn't know he was warning her about something that had already happened.

That night, she talked to her parents about her appointment by the President as the Ambassador of the Republic of Bentaz to Egypt. The whole family was overjoyed, no one had ever imagined that one day their family would have such an important person.

"What does your husband think about this job, or will you be going to Egypt with him?"

"Ah! We've talked about it, and he has no problem, he's very happy, but he will stay behind!"

The following morning, the journey back to Miami city began. Diana felt an immense joy in her heart. What troubled her mind was what would happen after her parents discovered the problem between her and Damian, especially when she herself, was the main cause of their conflict!.
