Chapter 7 A Deal with the Devil

Ethan drove fast, weaving through the city streets as the glow of the explosion faded in the rearview mirror. Sienna sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window, her face illuminated by the neon lights flashing past.

Neither of them spoke for a long time. The silence wasn't comfortable-it was heavy, charged with everything unsaid.

Finally, Ethan broke it. "Start talking."

Sienna exhaled, her fingers tapping against her thigh. "I was working on something before I left."

Ethan's grip on the wheel tightened. "What kind of 'something'?"

She turned to face him, her green eyes unreadable. "An investigation."

Ethan let out a dry laugh. "Since when were you a detective?"

"I wasn't. But I was close to something-something dangerous. And the second I got too close, I was given a choice: leave or die."

Ethan's stomach twisted. "And you chose to leave me instead of telling me?"

"I didn't have a choice." Her voice was quiet, almost a whisper. "They made sure of that."

His knuckles turned white against the steering wheel. "Who are they, Sienna?"

She hesitated, then said two words that sent a cold chill down his spine.

"The Kings."

Ethan swore under his breath. The Kings weren't just a criminal syndicate-they were the criminal syndicate. Untouchable. Ruthless. Ghosts in the underworld.

And if Sienna had crossed them, she was as good as dead.

"You should've told me," he muttered.

She let out a bitter laugh. "Would you have believed me back then?"

Ethan opened his mouth-then closed it. She had a point. Their marriage had already been hanging by a thread. The Kings had made sure to cut it completely.

He exhaled sharply. "So why now? Why come back?"

Sienna looked away. "Because I finally know who set me up."

Ethan's pulse jumped.

"And I want revenge."

The words hung between them, heavy and unshakable.

Ethan kept his eyes on the road. He should've walked away the second she called. Should've ignored her like she had ignored him for three years.

But he couldn't.

Because if Sienna wanted revenge, that meant she had a target. A name.

And Ethan wanted to hear it.
