Chapter 2 2. I'm Leaving

"No, no Vanessa! You can't leave us!" Jennifer immediately stopped her adopted daughter who was quickly packing up her belongings from leaving the Hamilton family home, which she once thought was her home.

"Mom, why are you blocking the departure of someone who is not related to us by blood? She's just an adopted child, who was put in front of this house, and in the end received all the love I should have had." Vera immediately stopped her mother, who wanted to block Vanessa's departure.

"So you're doing all this, because you feel that I've taken away all the attention and affection from the people here?" Vanessa now knew why Vera had done such depraved and disgusting things.

Vera didn't answer directly, but her expression were answer to the fact why Vera was doing this.

So Vera finally got back at Vanessa, by taking away Vanessa's husband.

"Alright I'll go!" Vanessa dragged her suitcase downstairs to the living room to say goodbye to her father.

"Vanessa, no matter what happens, you are still my first daughter, don't ever listen to Vera!" George's words hurt Vera even more. Her father and mother were more hard on Vanessa than her, her father and mother loved the adopted daughter more than their own biological daughter.

"Vanessa, I love you so much! I just made a mistake doing it with Vera." James immediately grabbed his wife's hand because he didn't want her to leave him.

But Vanessa disdainfully shook her hand away so that James could not hold her hand.

"I'm going to get the divorce papers and I'm asking you to sign them as soon as they come to you."

"James, you must know that I have your child in my womb, so you can't help but divorce Vanessa and marry me." Vera's words, spoken in a casual tone, dropped like a bomb into the hearts of Vanessa and everyone else there.

Including James and the Hamilton couple.

During her two years of marriage to James, Vanessa had not been able to give him any offspring. It felt like her heart was completely torn out of shape. Betrayal, pain, deep sadness, feelings of rejection, all mixed together.

Vanessa was no longer able to stand upright on her own two feet, due to her intense suffering.

Leaning on her suitcase, she wiped her tears roughly, then Vanessa walked away without saying much more. She wanted to get out of this torturous hell, she wanted to get away from the people who made her heart ache.

Vanessa didn't remember how she got into the taxi, nor did she know where she was going.

All she had was her savings, some jewelry, important papers and some clothes. Everything else, she didn't care about at all.

"Miss, we've been circling this place so many times, where are we going?" The taxi driver knew that Vanessa was frantic, so he didn't dare to push her. But now he was also confused about where to take this woman. There was no way he was just going around the city.

"I'm confused... "Tears were falling steadily down her thin cheeks, while her face was also getting sad, Vanessa was tired.

If she did not think that suicide was a sinful thing, she would have done it by now. It felt like the burden she was carrying right now was so heavy.

"How about I recommend you to stay temporarily at a women's boarding house near my house. It just so happens that the owner of the place is my own cousin. Maybe from there, you can think about where you want to go."

The driver knew that this woman was in the midst of a great struggle, as she had never stopped shedding tears in the car. Her beautiful face looked sad and burdened.

Vanessa felt grateful when she looked at the taxi driver, that there were still good people in this world. So that she was still given help by God through the taxi driver.

"Alright, sir! I'll just rent a room at the boarding house, sorry for the trouble!"

"Don't be like that! I also have a daughter who is probably the same age as you, by me helping you, I hope my daughter who works in another city will get help from other people too." he said as he drove his car to his cousin's house.

Once there, Vanessa was immediately given an easy place to stay. Everyone also took pity on the woman's disheveled condition. So Vanessa was allowed to temporarily rent the room.

In the midst of Vanessa's sadness, she suddenly received a text message that made her a little happy, so that her sadness was relieved. The message said that her job interview at Anderson Group had been successful, so tomorrow was the day she was due to start work.

"Among all the bad things that happened today in a big way, there are still good things happening in my life."

Vanessa is grateful that with her return to work, she does not have to rely on anyone.

Yesterday, when she was unilaterally fired by her old boss, she felt sad. But she didn't think it was a good thing either, because then she could catch her husband and Vera in the act of betrayal.

If she was still working at her old job, she might not have discovered their affair.

For every bad thing Vanessa experienced that day, she felt that there was an answer from God when she got a new job with a sizable salary, at the Anderson Group company.

Vanessa finally looked at the mirror in her room and said, "Cheer up! You can do it. This means that James wasn't the best for me. And the fact that I'm not the biological daughter of the Hamilton family, I'm sure there's a God's plan behind it all. Keep believing in God!" Vanessa said trying to encourage herself.

Back at her boarding house, Vanessa was overcome with a sense of relief that her job interview had been successful. Elsewhere, Vera was upset, because unlike what she had imagined, James was now walking away.

Whereas usually, James is so passionate when close to her. But once the affair is exposed, James feels guilty and chooses to go away to calm down.

Her mother and father also shut themselves in their room. They didn't want to see Vera's face at all. Their hearts were broken, as Vanessa's departure was caused by Vera, their own daughter.

"I hate you, Vanessa! I hate you so much! You'll see, I'll make you ashamed and blasphemed by the people."
