Chapter 4 Behind The Door

The look on Kane's face was difficult to read as he stood before Doctor Lee's desk shaking like a child who had seen a masquerade.

" Calm down, Mr Kane; please have a seat", Dr Lee said to Kane, who was standing before him, looking confused and terrified.

Kane, who did not respond to what Dr Lee just said, repeated the same word in the same tune. " Please, I beg you, stop the investigation, just stop the investigation. I'm not interested anymore."

"Mr. Kane, we are making headway in the investigation. Just give it more time. A little time from now, we will..." Dr Lee said. And paused when he noticed that the person he was talking to was already in the doorway, heading out of his office in a rush.

" Mr Kane, hello, Mr Kane ", Dr Lee said at the top of his voice, trying to stop him from going out, but before he could finish calling out his name, he was already out of his office, and that was the last time Doctor Lee set his eyes on Mr Kane.

He tried several times to reach him on his cell phone, but all efforts to get to him were to no results.

He tried to track his location after a drama that happened in his office, but could not get any leads on him. He did not have any information about Mr Kane because, as a private investigator, he wasn't meant to know any information about his client. All his job was to deliver the investigation a client brought to him. Any information about his client's private life is not his concern.

But in the case of Mr Kane, he was disturbed by the actions of Mr Kane when he came to his office; the way he was trembling on that day and the way he held off an investigation that meant a lot to him left a lot of questions unanswered to Dr Lee.

Sofia got home from Dr Lee's office that day and did not know what else to do. She was restless because of the flashes of past life.

Sophie grew up without her parents and not knowing exactly how her parents died. She lost her parents when she was ten.

She had told a story of how her parents got burnt in a motor car accident, And all her life, she had not gotten out of the hard trauma of imagining how her parents suffered before they died in a car accident that burnt them alive.

She was lucky to have parents who have a high record in the psychology of Neuroscience. Both her parents have received a lot of records and awards in their fields and are well-known in the country. The mention of her parent's name alone had paved the way for her in many places more than she could imagine.

Many people take pity on her when they learn that she is the daughter of two brilliant people who lost their lives in a car accident, while others favor her for the same reason.

She was able to climb the ladder of her career almost to the peak with this information, and she had been doing well for herself.

Many times, she felt broken when people took pity on her because of who her parents were, and she felt betrayed knowing that she was the only one who did not enjoy the presence of her parents.

The thought that both of them had to die on the same day pains her every day.

She was sleeping on the bed with her bark resting on the bed. She lay down flat, and her gaze was fixed on the roof. She was having a lot of torture in her mind when the thoughts of Emma also came along.

She could not stop wondering how Emma must be feeling, seeing that she was entangled in such strange things. The experience she had at that warehouse was crazy, and she could not sleep because of it.

To think that Emma had been going through stuff like that for a very long time terrified her even more.

Deep down within her, she truly wanted to help Emma, but with the treat from Mr Smith, She knew it was going to be dangerous to run that path.

However, how could she allow a young girl who was so helpless to face such trauma alone? She decides to take the risk of being a part of it, despite how dangerous it promises to be.

When she could not sleep, she checked her time and realized that it was already midnight. She had the thoughts of going out to a bar and having some drink, but then it was too late to do any of that.

Immediately, she recalled that she had a lot of liquor in her kitchen and got out of bed to go get it.

As she stepped out of her room and walked down the corridor, she felt a strange presence around her, but she could not tell what it was.

She kept walking, trying to push out the fear that was slowly illuminating her. She was in her house, and she had no reason to fear, yet that strange feeling kept making her glance around every corner as she approached the kitchen.

She got close to the kitchen door and was about to turn the handle when she heard a loud cascade and sound from inside.

Something was falling heavily to the ground, and she could hear its pieces bouncing on the floor.

She withdrew from opening the door and stood five paces away from it. The fear she was feeling at that moment had intensified, and she just wrapped her hand around her body and held her mouth with the other hand, just trying to stop herself from screaming.

Nevertheless, it already seemed like it was too late as she began to hear fainting steps from inside the kitchen. The footsteps kept getting clearer as it approached, and she could tell without being told that it was heading her way.
