Chapter 3 No Lead

James took Sophia to her car, packed some distance away from the building, and entered his car; he drove behind Sophia till she got to her apartment.

"Doctor Patel, I think you are safe. Call me if you sense anything and be careful. Like I said before, we will look into this and get back to you," James said and zoomed off.

Sophia couldn't explain how she felt at that moment. Her body kept shivering. She went into her apartment, took a shower, and lay on the bed; she shut her eyes, forcing herself to sleep. But the more she tried to close her eyes, the picture of the encounter between her and Mr Smith kept hitting her mind.

Sophia went to the office very early in the morning and called in sick. She was uneasy, and she knew very well that her job as a phycologist required to be focused and undivided attention, which she was very certain was out of her control at that time.

What had been on her mind since her encounter with Mr Smith the previous night were lots of questions that needed an urgent answer.

She drove back home to rest but couldn't find a good spot on her bed to get a nap.

She decided to visit Doctor Lee again.

"Is everything okay, doctor Patel?" doctor Lee said in a concerned voice immediately after Sophia entered his office.

Sophia exhaled and walked directly to the visitor's seat opposite Doctor Lee's table without saying a word.

Doctor Lee's eyes were fixed on Sophia, expecting her to say something; at that point, he knew that something was not right with her.

"They exist; they attacked me," Sophia said after a few seconds of silence.

"The cult?" doctor Lee asked. He can vividly recall them talking about whether the cult existed the last time Sophia visited.

"The order of the knight. That is what they are called", Sophia said.

Doctor Lees was taken aback when he had Sophia mention the order of the night.

The name sounded familiar. He could not recall where or how he had come across the name before, but he was sure it was not in a good way.

"Any news about Emma's whereabouts?" Doctor Lee asked, trying to wave the name Sophia called in order not to scare her by saying what he thinks he knows about them.

"They are holding her. Mr Smith claims she is one of them. I am sure they are controlling Emma; she is in trouble. I need your help to find her," Sophia said.

Doctor Lee, aside from being a doctor, was a private investigator with well-known investigation skills.

"Doctor Patel, how did you get to know about this?" doctor Lee asked with curiosity in his voice.

He could recall investigating a case involving the name Sophia just mentioned, but it was a long time ago, and he remembered that the person who brought the investigation to him later asked him to drop it, and that was the last time he heard or saw him again.

Sophia narrated her encounter with Mister Smith the previous night to Doctor Lee.

"Doctor Patel, you need some rest; you look exhausted. I will look into this and get back to you, but to be honest, this will not be as easy as it seems. You have to be careful." Doctor Lee said with a tone of concern in his voice.

Sofia nodded her head in agreement with what Doctor Lee had just said; without any words, she stood up and left Doctor Lee's office.

Just as Sofia left the office, he stood up from his seat and went to his cupboard in his office. He started searching through his files. He could not remember what the file looked like. What he was sure of was that he had to find his office. It had been two years since he ended the investigation concerning the Order of the night.

The person who brought the case to him had asked him to drop the case and that was the last time he saw the client. He tried all he could to convince the client to keep the investigation going and that he would get to the root of the investigation, even though he knew that all his efforts to get to the root of the investigation were not successful. All the information he gathered from different sources always led him to a dead end.

You are surprised that the case of the same order of the knight comes up again, this time from a very close friend; he had known Doctor Sophia for a very long time back in the college, a nice determined to do anything to get to the root of the investigation. Not just because Sophia asked him to, but because you can vividly recall the circumstances behind the case when he investigated it before.

As a secret investigator, all his work is private. The way to work between him and the dark client was private; then he was surprised to see the client coming back to him to close the investigation with a shaking and fearful voice; at that point, he knew that something was off.

After a few minutes of search, Dr Lee finally found the file; as he opened and read through it, everything that happened during the investigation came back in a flash. The investigation lasted for three months, but he could not say for sure that he got a rigid lead on the investigation.

Dr Lee let out a breath of exhaustion when he flipped to the end of the file without getting any lead to start from. He knew that if he was to take the investigation, he needed to start from scratch as the previous investigation did not yield any results.

"You have to drop the case; I'm not interested in it anymore," Kane, his first client in that case, said to him as he walked into his office trembling in fear that evening about three months ago.

"What is going on, Kane?" Doctor Lee asked.
