Chapter 9 THE PAST

As Mr. Vincent listened to Liam's recounting of his past, his expression softened, his eyes filled with empathy and understanding.

"Liam, I had no idea you had endured such hardships," he murmured, his voice heavy with emotion. "To have faced such tragedy at such a young age... it's unimaginable."

Liam nodded, his throat tight with emotion. "It was... difficult, to say the least. After my father's death, I was left alone in the world, with no one to turn to for support."

As memories of his past flooded back, Liam's voice wavered slightly. "I was taken in by an orphanage, but life there was far from easy. I endured years of neglect and abuse, longing for the love and stability that had been ripped away from me so cruelly."

Mr. Vincent's heart ached for the young man before him, his empathy palpable. "You've been through so much, Liam. It's a wonder you've survived with such resilience and strength."

Liam managed a weak smile, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I had to, Mr. Vincent. I had to keep going, keep fighting, for my father's sake. I promised him that I would make something of myself, that I would honor his memory in everything I did."

Mr. Vincent reached out, placing a reassuring hand on Liam's shoulder. "And make something of yourself, you have, Liam. Despite the odds stacked against you, you've persevered, and now, you stand before me as a testament to your father's legacy."

Liam's heart swelled with gratitude at Mr. Vincent's words, his determination reignited. "Thank you, Mr. Vincent. Your support means more to me than you'll ever know."

As they sat in quiet contemplation, a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect enveloped them, binding them together in a bond forged by shared hardship and unwavering determination.

And as Liam looked to the future with newfound hope and determination, he knew that with Mr. Vincent's guidance and support, there was nothing he couldn't achieve.

As Alex and Dominic paced anxiously outside the room where Mr. Vincent and Liam were engaged in conversation, their expressions darkened with frustration and resentment.

"I can't believe this," Dominic muttered, his voice dripping with disdain. "That loser has managed to worm his way into Sir Vincent's good graces. It's not fair!"

Alex clenched his fists, his jaw set in a stubborn line. "I told you we should have taken care of him ourselves. Now look at him, getting all chummy with Sir Vincent while we're stuck out here twiddling our thumbs."

Dominic's eyes narrowed as a thought occurred to him. "Wait a minute... if Liam manages to win over Sir Vincent, that means he'll have even more influence and power. And Clara... she'll be completely out of my reach."

Alex's expression darkened with realization. "You're right. We can't let that happen. We need to find a way to get rid of Liam once and for all, before he ruins everything for us."

Their minds whirred with sinister thoughts as they plotted their next move, determined to sabotage Liam's newfound success and reclaim what they believed was rightfully theirs.

Meanwhile, inside the room, Clara's heart pounded with worry as she anxiously awaited news of Liam's fate. She prayed silently that nothing bad would happen to him, her mind consumed with fear and uncertainty.

As the minutes stretched into what felt like an eternity, Clara's anxiety reached fever pitch, her nerves frayed with worry. She could only hope and pray that Liam would emerge from his meeting with Mr. Vincent unscathed, his future secured and his dreams intact.

As Mr. Vincent continued to recount the names of his late father's business partners, Liam's mind raced with a mix of emotions. Each name stirred up memories and associations, but one in particular stood out like a glaring beacon of betrayal: Don Vito.

Liam felt a surge of anger and determination course through him as he recalled the chilling moment when the shooter had mentioned that name. Don Vito was the one responsible for his father's death, and Liam was certain of it.

But he kept his emotions tightly under wraps, his expression carefully neutral as Mr. Vincent spoke. Inside, however, his mind churned with a whirlwind of thoughts and memories.

Images of his father flashed before his eyes, moments frozen in time – the sound of his laughter, the warmth of his embrace, the strength of his guidance. Liam felt a lump form in his throat as he struggled to contain the flood of emotions threatening to overwhelm him.

And then, amidst the chaos of his thoughts, another figure emerged – Timo, his father's loyal PA. Liam remembered the kind-hearted man who had always been there for him, offering support and guidance in the wake of his father's death.

Vincent's voice broke through Liam's reverie, bringing him back to the present. "Yes, Timo was indeed your father's most trusted confidant. He was a loyal and dedicated employee, and his loss was deeply felt by all who knew him."

Liam nodded solemnly, his heart heavy with grief and determination. He couldn't change the past, but he could honor the memory of his father and Timo by seeking justice for their deaths.

As the weight of his past settled over him like a heavy cloak, Liam made a silent vow to himself – he would stop at nothing to uncover the truth behind his father's murder and bring those responsible to justice, no matter the cost.

As Mr. Vincent handed over the cheque, Liam's eyes widened in disbelief. He took the cheque gingerly, turning it over in his hands as if to confirm its reality. The weight of the promise it held felt almost surreal.

"500 million dollars," Liam murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. He couldn't quite comprehend the enormity of the amount. It was more money than he could ever have imagined.

A rush of emotions flooded through him – gratitude, disbelief, and a glimmer of hope. This cheque represented more than just financial assistance; it was a lifeline, a chance for him to finally turn his life around.

"Thank you, Mr. Vincent," Liam said, his voice choked with emotion. "I don't know how to repay you for this."

Mr. Vincent simply nodded, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Consider it a gesture of goodwill, Liam. You've shown me your determination, and I have faith that you'll make the most of this opportunity."

With a sense of determination burning in his chest, Liam pocketed the cheque, a silent vow forming in his mind. He would use this money wisely, he promised himself, and he would make sure that it was just the beginning of his journey towards justice and redemption.
