Chapter 3 Yes, He Is My Husband!

Seeing the keys Waylon held tightly, John Griffiths, the man with golden-rimmed glasses, was momentarily shocked. It took a moment, but John managed to gather his thoughts. "This can't be real! How on earth did you end up with Debra's keys? Did you steal them?" He pressed Waylon for answers.

"Steal?" Waylon raised an eyebrow, annoyed by the accusation. "I'm not a thief. Are you? My wife gave these keys to me! Let's cut the nonsense. I've shown you proof that Debra is my wife, so you owe me ten thousand dollars."

"You scoundrel, I think you're just a thief!" John's complexion darkened as he spat out. "You don't deserve Debra. Listen, you better give me those keys right now and come with me to the police, or it won't end well for you!"

Waylon's gaze sharpened as he questioned, "Are you planning to play dirty?"

"Play dirty? You're the one who obviously took her keys, and now you dare accuse me of playing dirty?" John shot back.

His eyes sparked with anger. He went on, "Looks like you won't admit it unless I force it out of you. Well, I'm about to show you, a small-time thief from the countryside, what you're up against!"

He then positioned himself in a Taekwondo stance, quickly moved towards Waylon, and threw a punch aimed at Waylon's head.

"Thinking of hitting me, huh?" Waylon queried.

A chill flashed in his eyes. He didn't move back but skillfully avoided John's punch. At the same time, his shoulder, hard as iron, slammed into John's chest with immense force.

"Ah!" John yelled.

The powerful blow made him shout out in pain. He was sent flying backward, landing hard on the ground, where he curled up, writhing in pain like a shrimp.

The hit from Waylon caused him immense pain!

He had never felt such agony before, as if his body had been ripped apart in a moment!

Just then, a cold voice asked, "What's going on here?"

Waylon and John looked over to see Debra stepping out of a Maserati, her presence icy and imposing, making her seem like an elegant but distant iceberg.

John's spirits lifted, and he quickly stood up, forgetting his discomfort. He rushed over and said, "Debra, you're back. Did you know your house keys got stolen by a thief?"

Debra frowned and asked, "A thief?"

John, pointing at Waylon's smiling face, said with intensity, "Yes, him! He's the one who took your house keys. I've been wrestling with him for a while now to get them back for you. He couldn't defeat me in a fair fight, so he played dirty and knocked me down. You arrived just in the nick of time. I've been holding him off. Call the cops quickly. We can't let this thief escape!"

In his quest to win over the woman he adored and her immense fortune, John clenched his teeth and prepared to face Waylon in another physical confrontation.

Debra interrupted, "Wait a minute!"

John stopped and looked back at Debra, puzzled.

Debra gave him a peculiar look and explained, "Mr. Griffiths, there seems to be a misunderstanding. For starters, we don't know each other well enough for you to be doing anything on my behalf. And secondly, the 'thief' you're referring to hasn't actually stolen anything from me. I was the one who gave him those keys."

"What?!" John was taken aback. "You... you gave him the keys? And he's... he's actually your husband?"

"Husband?" Debra asked, her eyebrows arching in surprise. She quickly figured out what was going on. Her eyes chilled as she looked over at Waylon, his smug grin only fueling her anger.

She was tempted to correct the misunderstanding.

Yet, John's constant bothering had been getting on her nerves.

After a moment's thought, Debra firmly nodded at John and announced, "Yes, he's my husband."

John's eyes went wide. He was shocked.

Countless remarkable men of Lucset had been after Debra's heart, but none had succeeded. John couldn't believe that the woman he admired had chosen someone he considered a nobody. Wasn't that just absurd?

"Now do you believe it?" Waylon taunted John.

John was still in denial, but Waylon's gloating laugh was already ringing in his ears. "You lost. Hand over the ten thousand bucks."

"He lost?" Debra interjected, puzzled.

She was curious, what was this about?

"Damn it! There you go!" John exclaimed.

He found no reason to not believe Debra's words. Frustrated, he pulled out ten thousand bucks and gave them to Waylon, muttering, "This isn't over. We'll see!"

After hurling those biting words, John quickly hopped into his fancy car parked by the roadside and sped away.

"Easy money from a rich heir." Waylon watched John's awkward exit with a smirk, ready to count his cash, when suddenly he sensed danger looming.

The threat came from Debra's eyes, shining intensely like stars in the night sky.

"Waylon Cooper!" Debra stared down Waylon with fierce eyes and demanded, "Did you... just bet on me with someone else? What do you take me for?"

"I take you as my wife," Waylon answered. He didn't seem too concerned. He casually remarked, "Look, I didn't bring money back from overseas this time, and if there's someone dumb enough to hand me their cash, it'd be dumb of me not to accept it."

"I'm not your wife yet!" Debra was so furious she felt pain in her chest. She exclaimed, "And even if I were your wife, it's wrong for you to gamble on me with others!"

"That's a fair point." Waylon conceded. After a brief pause, he nodded earnestly and promised, "Okay, I assure you, once you really are my wife, I'll never bet on you with anyone else again."

Debra was taken aback and asked, "What?"

So, he wouldn't bet on her when she was his wife. Did that mean he would bet on her again before they were married?

"You jerk..." Debra blurted out.

The urge to kill Waylon was overwhelming. She clenched her fists, ready to argue, when the ring of her phone in her bag interrupted her.

Waylon, meanwhile, was busy counting his money.

"I'll get back to you on this!" Debra warned, shooting Waylon a fierce look. She grabbed her phone and, with a voice still cold from her anger, answered, "What do you want?"

"What do I want? Debra, surely I haven't done anything to upset you lately, right?" a voice that was both sweet and sad replied from the other end.

Debra, taken aback by the voice, glanced at her phone and realized it was her best friend, Rylee Simpson, on the line. She mentally kicked herself for letting Waylon disturb her peace of mind, having forgotten to check who was calling.

"I'm really annoyed by some jerk," Debra said, glancing at Waylon who was beside her, counting money and clenching her teeth in frustration.

"Who's the jerk that's got our respected CEO so upset? Come on, tell me. Introduce me," Rylee teased. Her laugh was captivating, making her sound playful and flirtatious even over the phone.

"You'll get to meet him soon enough." Debra let out a sigh. "I just got home from work, so what's going on?"

"You're already home?" Rylee quickly replied. "Wait, don't go inside yet. The kitchen pipe burst. You should get someone from the property management to look at it first!"

"Alright," Debra agreed.

She ended the call and made her way to the property management office.

When Waylon finished counting the money, he realized Debra had already left. He shook his head and muttered, "My future wife surely has a bad temper. She didn't even drop a hint before going home alone."

Mumbling to himself, Waylon walked to the villa's entrance and used one of the keys Debra had given him to unlock the gate.

The moment he opened the gate, he was taken aback by the sight that greeted him.
