"Where did those questions come from?
"Don't try to lie, nanny; I know when you do, you always try avoiding it by asking another question.
"Answer the question, please," I said, looking at her, waiting for a response but nothing
"Your silence is enough answer; now I don't know why you told me at the age of four not to call you mom but nanny Mary. I have always wondered why but didn't question you, I never understood it before until now.
"No, I am your mother, but not your biological mother."
"What?
"Twenty-two years ago, your real parents were involved in an accident with you and your sister, but they didn't make it. I was their neighbor at that time and was sad to hear the news of their demise but happy to hear you and your sister survived it but were going to be put in foster care, and I didn't want that and offered to take you guys, but my life was a mess at that moment. I was recently divorced because I was barren, couldn't bear children, and was labeled the neighborhood grouch.
"I had to fight a little for me to be granted adoption of you guys, looking at it as a chance to be a mother like I have always wanted, but the night before I was allowed to come take you guys, your sister was stolen. We looked for her to the best of our abilities and funds, but there was only so much I could do.
"I am sorry for your pain, but where didn't you tell me all these years?" I asked, wiping the tears from her face and hugging her.
"I wanted to, but you were just two at that time, and I didn't want you to grow up with that kind of trauma."
"Since you wanted to be a mother so bad, why didn't you let me call you that?
"You did at first, a few months after you came to live with me, but it just didn't feel right with me, and I don't need you to be call me that for me to know you are my daughter because I raised you myself.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have spoken to you like that earlier.
"It's ok, I understand you wanted to know the truth, but what made you ask these questions all of a sudden?"
"A girl that looks identical to me came to the house to tell Aaron, I mean to meet me after seeing me online from pictures and videos posted from the wedding asking the same questions," realizing I almost exposed that the marriage was fake.
"Really? I would like to meet her.
"Yeah, we are going to get a DNA test done to see if we are related.
"Ok, I would like to meet her if she allows
I stayed with nanny for a few more hours, gaining more information about my parents before leaving.
"What took you so long? I thought you were visiting your mother.
"Yes, and I found out some certain
"And that is ?
"Delah might be my long-lost sister."
"What?
"Apparently I am adopted, our parents died in a car accident, and she might be my sister that was stolen from the orphanage before nanny could take us.
"Wow, so what are you going to do now?
"I am going to contact her tomorrow, so we can get a test done and know the truth. For now, I am too tired and am still trying to process all the information I received today.
"You are right, today has been exhausting. We'll do that tomorrow and also check out the pregnancy. Now let's go to bed.
Hearing his last statement caused me to pause what I was doing, realizing this was the first time we were actually going to bed together. I know we have been sleeping in the same bed for a while, but I was always asleep when he got back, never having to worry about it now it's going to be weird.
I lay on the bedside I usually sleep on, and he gets on the otherside facing the other way. Furthermore, I picked up my phone to text Delah about the appointment I will be setting up for her tomorrow before going to put the phone down on the bedside table and turning over to see Aaron looking at me, startling me.
"Goodnight lenah
"Goodnight Aaron," I responded, leaving us in awkward silence, staring at him, not knowing what's happening, and turning over since I can't sleep with him staring at me like that.
The next morning, Aaron was gone by the time I woke, but he left a note stating he had booked the doctor's appointment with one of his trusted doctors, and the driver would be taking me there. Then it was settled. Then it's settled. I pick up my phone to call Delah
"Hello Delah good morning
"Umm, good morning, who is this?"
"It's lenah. I called to let you know the appointment is by noon if you can meet me at the Victorian hospital today
"Ok bye"
"See you there." I rushed out, but she had already hung up.
I got to the hospital earlier than planned since I could sit still with the thought that I might have a sister and decided to wait for her to show and speak of the devil. She walked in right on time.
"Great you are here, let's go," I said, grabbing her hands
"No need to rush; I am not running away," she said, pulling her hands out of mine
"Sorry, I'm just a little anxious, and the doctor is waiting for us," I said while walking into the doctor's office.
"Good afternoon, ladies. Which one of you is Mrs. Knight?
"I am the one
"Ok, your husband booked the appointment; what can I do for you?
"We came to get two DNA tests done, one between me and her, to confirm if she is pregnant and perform a paternity test for the baby."
"May I ask how many weeks?
"Almost two months
"Well, we can only do the DNA test between you two and the pregnancy test, but we can't do the paternity test because if she is truly pregnant, it's still too early to check that since the fetus is barely formed yet and could be harmful to both the mother and child. We would have to wait until she entered her second trimester.
"Ok, doctor, we will do those for now.
"Alright, a nurse will be with you shortly to take the blood samples, and you will get the results in the next two days.
"Ok"
While getting the test done, I could hear Delah mumbling to herself, worried, "So now I have to wait a few more weeks before we can perform the stupid test. Mom is totally going to kill me, I am definitely going to start showing by then. What am I going to do?
"I can help with that" I said overhearing.
"How?
"You can come stay with us at least till we do the test, and if the child truly belongs to Aaron, then he will take full responsibility for you during the pregnancy.
"I am not really sure about that
"You can think about it and let me know
"Ok, then I will see you later."
