"I.. I love you.
"Really, is that what you wanted to say?
"Yes, can't I tell you I love you anymore?
"You can, but you don't have to make it seem like you committed a crime, and I love you too. Anyway, let's get back to the dresses. Your wedding is in two weeks.
"Yes ma'am.
The next two weeks flew by faster than I expected them to. After my failed attempt to tell her the truth, I couldn't do it. Every time I try to bring it up, I see how happy she was to see me get married, and the doctor said we shouldn't stress her too much, so I am avoiding that. As a result, here I am sitting in front of the mirror getting my makeup done on my wedding day
"Oh, my darling, you look beautiful," the nanny announced as she walked into the room
"Thank you, you look gorgeous too.
"The guests have started arriving, so you need to wear your dress, are you done with the makeup?" she asked the stylist.
"Yes, ma'am." I went towards the bathroom and got dressed
"Aww, you look so pretty. I wish you had a dad to walk you down the aisle, but you never had a father figure in your life.
"I don't need a dad; I have you, and that's all that matters, okay?"
"Yeah, you're right, I am just emotional right now and will miss you when you go." Wiping the tears from her eyes.
"I understand, but I am just getting married; we will still see each other whenever we want," she said, hugging her
"Ok, enough of the crying; today is a happy day. Let me check on the groom and the final arrangement
As she leaves, I realize this is really happening. Ten minutes later, I am walking down the aisle with Nanny by my side. I focused my gaze on Aaron since I barely knew anybody here, and I could feel their stares already judging me. Nanny hands me over to Aaron, telling him to take good care of me.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to join this lovely couple in holy matrimony. If you have any reason this marriage shouldn't take place, speak now or forever hold your peace," the priest announced
He went in, since no one said anything: "Do you, Lenah Carter, take Aaron Knight to be your lawfully wedded husband to love and hold through sickness and health, rich and poor?"
"I do," I responded as he proceeded to ask Aaron.
"I do," he said, looking at me in the eyes
"With the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife; you may now kiss the bride." As soon as he said it, I realized I had forgotten about the most important part of the wedding, we never talked about kissing.
Looking at Aaron as he lifted the veil, I tried to give him a sign that I wasn't ready for that, but he paid no heed to me, leaning forward and kissing me full on the lips, which caught me off guard, pulling me closer and gripping my waist to keep me stable as I lost the feeling in my legs.
I don't know how long we were kissing, but we both lost it until the crowd started cheering, causing us to break apart and walk down the aisle waving at everyone. We got to the reception, and Aaron didn't waste time introducing me to his business associates, portraying to them as the perfect couple in love
"Lenah I do have a question for you if you don't mind me asking," Mrs. Fernandez asked. She's the wife of one of his business partners.
"No go ahead"
"How did you stay with Aaron during his whore faze.
"What?
"I mean, according to the story of how you guys met, the period you met, with all due respect, he was sleeping with everything that has legs, so how were you bearing all that?"
"Oh, we weren't really official during that period until he showed him he was ready to commit to me only.
"Oh, ok, congratulations again, dear." I waved at her as she walked away. That was an awkward conversation.
The reception was exhausting-having to put on a smile for everybody I met, having to deal with the hateful stares from women, and nasty comments on how Aaron was going to cheat on me before six months into our marriage. We bid farewell to everyone as we leave for our honeymoon.
