"Hello"
"Hello Lenah is that you?" Hearing his voice makes me rethink my decision about calling him
"Hello, I understand if you don't want to do it ok.
"Help!" I croaked.
"What?
"Help me please"
"I don't understand. Help you with what?
"Nanny, she is in the hospital. I don't want her to die; please just save her. I will do whatever you want, please." I begged, breaking into tears
"Woah, please calm down. What hospital is she admitted to?
"St. Mary's Hospital on Parkland Avenue"
"Ok, I'm on my way. Wait for me." He hung up, and I went back to my seat with Nanny
"Don't worry, Nanny, help is coming; just hold on for a little longer.
Hearing voices outside the room woke me up from my sleep, I must have slept off without realizing it. Getting up to see who the voices belong to
"Aaron, you are here? When did you get here?
"I got here a few hours ago, but you were sleeping and looked exhausted, so I decided not to disturb you and went to see the doctor about her condition.
"Ok, so what will happen next?
"I have asked the doctor to sign transfer papers, I am transferring her to a private hospital to get better treatment, and I have invited over a specialist in this area to perform the surgery. He is waiting for us at the hospital to do some tests on her before scheduling the surgery. I have also arranged for a donor for her.
"Really! Thank you so much. Do I need to sign the contract before moving forward?
"No, let's focus on the surgery, then we can discuss the contract after.
"Ok.
In less than an hour, the papers were signed, and the helicopter came and took Nanny to the hospital, where she was being examined by the specialized team Aaron brought.
"Miss lenah"
"Yes, I am the one, is nanny ok to go for surgery?
"I am doctor Mathew Gomez, she's good to go, but the pressure she put on her heart was a lot, which caused her to reach the final stage of heart failure faster, and it might be the cause of some risks during the surgery."
"I always told her to rest, but she doesn't listen to me. What are the percentages of the surgery being successful?
"Because you took time to do the surgery, I will say she has a thirty percent chance of surviving, but I will try my best.
"Oh my God!"
"Don't worry, everything is going to be alright. Dr. Gomez is the best, she is going to make it," he said, putting his hand on my shoulder and trying to comfort me.
"Yes, so you can go home and rest, then come back tomorrow in time for the surgery.
"No, I can't leave, I will be staying with her.
"Sorry, but you can't stay in the ICU overnight.
"But I can't go home; I won't be able to sleep and will be too worried.
"I know, but it's the hospital rules.
"He's right, you need to rest, you look exhausted.
"No, I am not; please let me stay.
"Since you are worried, you can stay at my house since you don't want to be alone," he suggested.
"Well, that's not needed, I can stay with my friend.
"Ok, then I will see you tomorrow.
I was devastated by the fact I couldn't stay with nanny as I walked up to our apartment to see Sofia waiting at the door.
"Hey, what are you doing here?
"I came to check up on you since you didn't show up to work today.
"Shot, I forgot, I am totally getting fired, aren't I? I came home yesterday and nanny was lying unconscious. I rushed her to the hospital, but they couldn't do anything without money, so I called Aaron for help, and they are performing the surgery tomorrow.
"Oh my God, Lenah, how are you feeling?
"Right, I don't know; I nearly lost it when they said there wasn't much they could do for her, but right now I am hanging on to hope, all thanks to Aaron.
"So you agreed to marry him.
"Yes, as long as he saves Nanny, I will do whatever he wants.
"Ok, it's your choice, everything is going to be alright.
"I hope so, but can you do me a favor and stay with me tonight? I don't want to be alone tonight.
"Sure, you don't have to ask." Let's go inside; you look exhausted.
❤❤❤❤
The next day, I was up and ready to leave for the hospital. Sofia tried getting me to eat something, but it wasn't working because I felt nauseous with anxiety as we drove to the hospital. The minute we got there, I was out of the car and racing towards her room to see Aaron already there talking with the nurses. I walked by the room to see it empty and went back to see Aaron.
"Where is Nanny?" I asked worried.
"Oh, they took her for her last round of tests before surgery begins.
"Ok, you are here early.
"Yeah, I promised to take care of everything, so that's what I am doing.
Two hours later, all the tests were done, and Nanny was prepped for surgery. They gave me some time with her before taking her away
"Don't worry, everything is going to be fine, you are going to come back to me healthy, and we can go back to our lives." I was trying to convince my nanny, but I was also trying to comfort myself since she's not conscious. "Hey, are you done? Aaron asked, startling me
"Yes," I said, wiping my tears and getting up as they moved her out of the room.
Pacing around the halls since I couldn't sit still and kept looking at the theater lights, Sofia took leave from work, so she could be here with me, which I am really grateful for
"Why don't you sit down for a while? Pacing doesn't help," He said when the doors opened.
"How is she? Is everything alright?" I asked, but he kept quiet
"Say something," I said, gripping his coat
"Calm down, Dr. Gomez. What happened in there? Is the operation over?
"I'm sorry she didn't make it. We tried our best, but her blood pressure went really high during the transplant, and we tried controlling it, but it was just too much pressure.
"She's gone"
