Chapter 6 Too Greedy

Rosalie was feeling down, and Torrie, lounging in the living room, wasn't in a much better mood either. She was sitting on the couch and looked troubled and gloomy.

She was worried about whether Rosalie still harbored feelings for Benjamin due to her words and attitude just now.

Just then, Rosalie's younger sister, Wren Carter, walked in. She bore a slight resemblance to Rosalie but her style was quite different.

Unlike Rosalie's simpler attire, Wren was dressed boldly in a really short miniskirt, one that risked revealing too much with a big step.

Her white shirt was tied into a knot just below her chest, flaunting her sexy slim waist and accentuating her figure.

Upon entering, Wren noticed Torrie's downcast expression as she sat on the sofa.

The mess on the floor made Wren frown deeply.

She hurried over to Torrie and asked, "Mom, what's up? Is it about Benjamin, that jerk? Did he refuse to divorce and caused a scene here?"

At the mention of Benjamin, Torrie's mood soured further. She scoffed.

"No! There's no problem I can't handle. Dealing with a loser like him is a piece of cake. He's no longer any concern to your sister."

With a huff of annoyance, Torrie added, "I'm just worried that your sister might still have feelings for him. What if Benjamin keeps bothering us? If Rosalie goes easy on him, then all our efforts will have been for nothing."

Wren nodded, deep in thought.

"I guess it's tough. It's like if we had a dog for three years and it suddenly vanished. Rosalie might still care for him because he always tried so hard to make her happy."

Wren rolled her eyes, her smile tinged with disdain.

"But imagine if we worsen her view of that guy even more? Or make sure they can't patch things up. Then, no matter how hard he tries, my sister won't give him another chance."

Torrie's eyes sparkled. "You're right, Wren! We need to totally shut down any chance of them getting back together. Do you have any good ideas?"

"Hmm, let me think." Wren furrowed her brow, pondering for a moment. "Mom, what exactly happened when that loser left?"

"There's something odd about it," Torrie said, her voice icy.

She then recounted everything about Benjamin's departure.

Wren's eyes widened in shock. "What? He turned down six million and left without a dime? How's that even possible? He's been doing chores for us for three years, for free. How's he going to survive without money?"

"Exactly," Torrie agreed, frowning.

"I see!" Then, Wren had a sudden understanding. She looked up suddenly. "The necklace Benjamin took must be worth a fortune. It's the only explanation for him ignoring six million. He's playing the saint, trying to scam my sister's necklace."

Slap!

Torrie's eyes blazed with anger as she stood up abruptly, slamming her hand on her thigh.

"That bastard, Benjamin! He's so scheming!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with fury. "We've had him in our home for over three years and he's done nothing. He's not even grateful, just lies to our faces! Damn it! He's going to have bad luck. Just wait and see."

As Torrie's rage grew, she stomped her feet, cursing Benjamin. Wren, trying to calm her down, intervened.

"Mom, please stop. What's the use of cursing him? It won't bring back the necklace. We need to think of a way to get it back."

Torrie, breathing heavily, nodded. "You're right," she said through gritted teeth. "We have to get that necklace back. It's my daughter's. We can't just let that loser have it. But we can't just ask him directly. He'll get suspicious."

Wren, thinking quickly, suggested, "Maybe we should start by being nice to him, trick him into coming out. Then you can grab the necklace."

"Alright, let's do that," Torrie agreed, nodding earnestly.

Meanwhile, Benjamin had left the Carter family's house, wandering the streets alone.

He had just had a phone, a bank card, and the necklace when he first came to Rosalie's house.

Now, after giving all his money in the bank card to Rosalie, all he had left was his slightly old phone and the necklace, which was still shining as before.

When Benjamin handed Rosalie the necklace, he never imagined he'd take it back.

After all, it belonged to his mother, who wanted her daughter-in-law to have it. It was her prized possession.

Yet here he was, unwilling to leave such a treasure with a woman he now saw as ungrateful.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

Suddenly, his phone buzzed insistently.

He pulled it out and saw a video call from Torrie.

Benjamin hesitated, almost not answering, but eventually, he tapped the screen.

To his surprise, it wasn't Torrie on the call, but Wren, all dolled up.

The moment they connected, Wren launched into a tirade, feigning outrage. "Mom, how could you treat Benjamin like this? He's been nothing but dedicated to our family. Even if he didn't support my sister much, he's always been there, doing chores. How can you just kick him out? And Rosalie was at fault too. She was always at work, never minding home. You're always here, mom. You know him well. Why let my sister act this way?"

Then, turning to Benjamin with a sly grin, Wren said in a sweet voice, "Benjamin, today's mess is just a mix-up. You and my sister are so in love. A small hiccup can't lead to divorce, right? I've given them a piece of my mind. Don't worry about it. We're still family, after all. I get you're hurt and don't want to come home yet. So, how about this? Tell me where you are, and I'll keep you company for a bit."
