Chapter 5 How Can You Make Me Regret It

Benjamin felt no connection to this family now.

As he was about to leave, a thought struck him, and he turned around.

"You've signed everything already. Are you having second thoughts?" Torrie eyed Benjamin with suspicion.

"Just so you know, you turned down the money yourself. Don't come asking for it now, because we won't give you any."

Benjamin ignored Torrie and focused on Rosalie. "Remember the necklace I gave you when we got married? It was from my mom. She intended it for her daughter-in-law. But we're not married anymore, so it's not yours. I need it back."

"Fine." Rosalie's lips quivered as she nodded. She went to her room and found it in a drawer after a short search.

When she tossed it back to him, it was covered in dust.

"Ha-ha..." At that, Andrew burst out laughing. "For your mother's daughter-in-law? Hilarious! You're dreaming too big, thinking you're someone important. It's just a necklace. I can get Rosalie one that's way pricier, worth much more than that shabby thing!"

Benjamin just smirked to himself.

Little did Andrew know, that necklace was a unique piece crafted by an international jewelry expert, commissioned by Benjamin's mother. Its value was at least a hundred million!

Once, even a royal family from abroad had tried to buy it, but his mother had refused.

Rosalie, however, didn't seem to appreciate its worth. She hadn't worn it since he gave it to her, even tossing away the box it came in.

Benjamin, holding back any further words, firmly grasped the necklace and left the Carter house without a backward glance.

As Benjamin walked away, Andrew's face lit up with a smug satisfaction, eager to speak with Rosalie.

But Rosalie just sighed heavily, looking worn out.

She had played out this moment in her mind countless times.

Yet, now that the divorce was real, relief was the last thing she felt. Instead, there was this hollow, disappointing sensation.

Biting her red lips, she turned to face Andrew and said firmly, "We didn't spend last night at a hotel, Mr. Burton. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't suggest that again."

Andrew, with a sheepish smile, hurried to clear things up.

"Don't worry. I was just trying to shake off that jerk, Benjamin. I wouldn't dream of saying anything to damage your reputation."

Rosalie's frown eased slightly. "Thanks for landing that 200 million dollar deal with the Lawson family for me. But, I'd rather not hear what you said today again."

Andrew's countenance shifted subtly, conveying his evident displeasure.

Torrie, quick to smooth things over, approached him with a sweet smile. "Mr. Burton, don't be upset with her. My daughter's just gone through a divorce today, so she's bound to be a bit upset. I'll talk to her and make her see how kind you are. In my eyes, you're the perfect son-in-law. It's only a matter of time before you two end up together."

Andrew's mood lightened at this. He turned to Rosalie, smiling. "Rosalie, I said something inappropriate because I care about you so much. I hope you don't mind it. As for the investment, leave it to me. I'll make sure you get that 200 million. I've got to go now. See you."

With that, he left.

As soon as he was gone, Torrie grabbed Rosalie's hand, pleading earnestly, "Rosalie, that man is a catch. You're free from Benjamin now. Why not consider Mr. Burton? A man like him is rare. Grab this chance."

"Enough!" Visibly upset, Rosalie cut off Torrie sharply. "Mom, I know you're trying to make things hard for Benjamin. I said we could end things without drama. Why'd you have to do that? Anyway, I'm tired and need to rest. Please, just leave me alone!"

With those words, she headed to her bedroom without looking back and locked the door behind her.

Rosalie understood Torrie more than anyone.

Yet, to split from Benjamin, she had faced a tough decision.

Her career was on the upswing, and she believed in the value of a husband who could support her ambitions over one who just managed household chores.

Entering her bedroom and calming down a bit, Rosalie felt a pang of sadness as she looked around the neat room and at their wedding photo on the wall.

She had thought she'd feel free and excited without the weight of her marriage, focused solely on becoming the formidable Ms. Carter in her career.

But instead, memories of Benjamin's care and support filled her with sorrow.

"What's happening to me?"

Then, Benjamin's final words echoed in her mind, striking her like a bolt of lightning, stirring a mix of anger and resistance.

"You're just a loser raised by me. How could I ever regret leaving you?" What Benjamin said made her scowl deeply.
