Chapter 5 5

Lisa's perspective:

I began my stay in the condo, and Ben allowed me to stay in the master bedroom. During the day, he went racing on the tracks, and in the evenings, he brought back dinner.

Every night, as I lay in bed, I would think about Alpha Vladimir's cold and piercing glare. It hurt my heart, but I tried to regain my composure and calm my emotions.

The motto of the Evans family was to always find a way to succeed. I couldn't let myself stay down.

One morning, after getting ready, I dressed up and was about to leave the condo when I ran into Ben, who had prepared breakfast.

"Where are you going?" Ben stopped me.

"I have an interview." I changed into high heels and blew him a flying kiss. "Wish me luck, Benny."

"Why don't you have breakfast before you leave?"

"It's too late." I shook my head and left.

Ben was speechless, but he knew my independent nature. I hated relying on others, so a few words from him wouldn't change that.

The only thing he could do was protect me.

The company I interviewed for was not at the top in its field, but the position in sales marketing was a perfect fit for me. I had the qualifications and experience, and it paid well.

The HR personnel seemed impressed with my resume and qualifications. He mentioned my prominent family background but hinted that the salary might be lower than average.

"I know the salary might be lower, but that's not my main concern," I replied. "I will always give my best, regardless of the situation."

The HR personnel found no flaws and was ready to make me an offer. But then, he received a call and left the room.

When he returned, he looked embarrassed. "Unfortunately, we won't be able to offer you employment. It's our problem... We are not adequately equipped for someone as overqualified as you. I'm sure you will find a better fit elsewhere."

I was startled. "Why not?"

"Well... it's our problem," he said, avoiding the true reason for the rejection.

With that, I had officially failed my first interview. I sat on the sofa, eating a sandwich, and I couldn't imagine anyone other than Alpha Vladimir conspiring against me.

Meanwhile, in Alpha Vladimir's CEO office, he had just finished a meeting and was listening to his assistant's report with a chilling expression on his face.

"So, she went for an interview and was rejected?" Alpha Vladimir asked.

"Yes, sir. Ms. Emmett was behind it," his assistant replied.

Alpha Vladimir was still concerned about my whereabouts, even after our divorce.

"Keep observing her and let me know if you find out anything," he instructed.

I quickly finished my lunch and cheered myself up before heading to the next interview. I didn't put all my hope on the first company and had applied to multiple others. I had received interview offers from a few of them.

During the last stage of the interview, the door opened abruptly, and someone entered the room.

"Well, well, isn't this a coincidence? Who would have expected to meet you here?" Janet sneered at me. "Stop trying. There's no way you'll get through this interview."

"It's you?" I grabbed my bag and stood up, my eyes shifting between Janet and the interviewer. "You are..."

Janet smirked. "Did I forget to introduce? He's my uncle."

I felt like I had been slapped in the face. The interview was just a show, a way to make a fool out of me.

Janet approached me. "How unfortunate. But just based on the fact that you're Alpha Vladimir's ex-Luna, I could never let you stay here."

"I understand." I composed myself and interrupted her. "Sorry, please excuse me."

I didn't try to act any further and left the room immediately.

Janet seemed shocked, her expression changing.

As I stood alone at the entrance, the wind blowing around me, I was unaware of my surroundings on that cold day.

The people around me noticed my behavior and thought I looked familiar.

"Ms. Evans," Janet walked towards me, calling my name.

I turned around, and she handed me a name card with a wry smile. "If you really need a job, why don't you try this place? I'm sure it would be the best fit for you."

I puzzledly accepted the name card and saw the words "Luminance Castle" printed on it. It brought back memories of the night I intruded the place.

Frozen in place, I realized that Janet must have found out and connected the dots.

I held the card tightly as I contemplated my next move. Should I tear it up? Should I throw it back at her?

A deliberate act of provocation, but it seemed inconsequential to me at that moment. I smiled and simply said, "Thank you."

Janet couldn't believe what she had heard. She was so surprised that she couldn't come up with a clever response right away.

"Lisa!" A shiny race car screeched to a halt at the entrance. Ben rolled down the windows and waved at me.

He had been racing all day and decided to pick me up during his rest time.

"Sorry, but my ride is here. I have to leave," I bid farewell to Janet as I boarded Ben's car, leaving her staring at us with envy and confusion.

"Where should we go?" Ben asked.

"Anywhere away from here as soon as possible," I replied, my expression cold as I looked ahead.

"Got it, hold on tight!" Ben understood and stepped on the accelerator.

The car rumbled and roared. People around were caught by surprise, some even screamed. Janet clenched her teeth.

"Lisa, have you moved on to a new target so quickly?" she murmured.

It seemed that this man, Ben, was no less than Alpha Vladimir.
